Damn. Came to post this. Can't beat the weight or price on this compass.
I use this. 13 grams, real compass, thermometer, magnifier, glow in the dark...
THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>680453
>not researching the weather
>not carrying a GPS as backup like a skidoo-riding adventure dude
WEW
>>680330
pic isn't mine it was the first good one google pulled up though. they are all made to the same specs though.
i would not recommend buying one, but if you join the military it is one of the things you should, um, lets say, requisition. mine lasted me 2 tours and 10 years now and still looks pretty damn good.
>>680453
Of course I've had to deal with inclement weather. But that's not really the time you want to be traveling, is it?
I either already know the area and therefore don't need a compass to navigate, or I'm new to the area and wouldn't risk trying to change locations during a storm.
>>680571
Weather reports are only available a week in advance, Anon. Serious outdoorsmen tend to stay /out/ longer than that.
>>680571
So, you are bitching that compass are not for real men because you can just look at the sky, but you want us to carry fancy robots to tell us where we are and where to go?
>>680330
Recta DP-6 G is my best, but most of the time it is overkill and a simple Silva field will do.
>>680330
>>680433
I hope you have an actual compass and know how to use it as back up when this one dies anon.
>>680453
This anon speaks the truth.
>>680571
>tries to be a smart ass by claiming to only need a star to navigate
>also afraid of the rain
>don't forget your sextant
My tool of choice.
>>680330
Only acceptable answer.
>>680619
damage control.
>>680453
Stars are not the only thing you can use to find the north.
Sun, shadows, fungus on trees and a lot of other thing you can look at.
But I actually always carry a compass, just in case, but I never use it. If it was heavy I wouldn't carry one
Pic related the compass I carry
>>681116
>fallout zone detection ruler
noice
>>681294
>Yoo moss mah nigga u kno wat way north is dawg?
>Sheeit nigga, it be dat way
>Yo thanks nigga
>Wait nigga... it dat way
>U sure yo?
>Yeeeaaa nigga now pass da blunt
>>681187
To be fair, OP didn't comply. Why is it so hard to believe I have a 60$ compass? Sheesh.
>>681308
>To be fair, OP didn't comply. Why is it so hard to believe I have a 60$ compass? Sheesh.
Ok, guess you're right.
>>681187
There's like one OC picture in the thread you fucking turd, but I'll bite anyway.
>>681279
>fallout zone detection ruler
lol what? It's because the compass contains a small tritium vial pointing north. Most compasses and cheaper watches contain fluorescent markings which need to gather light during the day to charge them so they can be seen to glow at night. A tritium light source does not need "charging" as it is continuously undergoing radioactive decay, hence the trefoil.
Bubble showed up a few weeks ago... 5k+ ft elevation swings, and in/out of the truck a few times a week (70°F+ temp changes) rekt it.
Gap gauge comes in handy, used it last week... truck and trailer keys on there as well. Usually stow my everyday keychain in the truck, then use that key to lock the doors.
Whole thing clips to a snap stitched inside the pocket of my jacket.
Map of the area I'm riding, along with my avalanche fieldbook, small notepad, and pens/pencils/sharpie go in my pack.
GPS is mounted to my sled/bike.
>>680433
At that point, why not just use a GPS?
>>681332
I was referring to the length of the line beneath the radiation symbol.

>>681308
it's from the 1930s or 40s
was built for the hj
does only work resting on solid ground
>>681406
It's nothing to do with "fallout zone detection" lol
I used one when I was 14 once but not in the last 10 years. Nobody should need one.
>>681512
hi op!
nice compass.
enjoy it
gps and mobile use batteries.
5 o 6 hours of use and go fucking off
compass are FOR LIFE
just need a paper map or a mental map
>year 2016
>doesn't use thumbcompass
What?
I've got a pocket transit, but I'm a surveyor and that's mostly there as kind of a sanity check if I think something might be off. I also use it once in a while for remote site construction stuff if a whole lot of precision isn't needed.
>>681757
Public land survey system detected. Is it a pocket transit or direct siting compass...
>>681995
Damn, that is meme-tacular
If only the blade were partially serrated.
>>681938
Pocket transit. It's an old brass bodied brunton.
>>681949
>bent blood soaked rebar located, windshield passenger side truck
store
>>681995
I was under the impression that too much metal would interfere with the compass...
>>681998
>If only the blade were partially serrated.
it is.
>>682293
I couldn't tell if those were cutting edges on the top or just some more meme-tastic stuff

Get on my level ya bumbaclarts.
I secrete this in my anus every morning just in case I need it.
>>683956
just in cause?
That knife is silly.
I've always used pic related and haven't had an issue. Its what I give my scouts
Best quality/price value
I would like one with a built in level though
>>684297
Silva's are excellent bits of kit.
What do you think of their "123 System" anon?
