So with the league coming to the end, only the NIGHT BATTLE remains, and we have a insteresting predicament. I will narrate this on 3rd person cause why not.

As the standings are right now, Solvi of Midnight Mis-Shift is leading by 5 points against Trampio's Grounded Fin, and in order for the things to turn around, the Trampio works driver needs not only to finish first, but Solvi to finish in 3rd, because if Solvi finishes 2nd, the two drivers will be tied, and Solvi has more wins, so he will take the championship by default.

Another interesting battle is the one for 3rd overall in the championship. Goodsmile Racing's Andi36356 is ahead of STP's Kita by 2 points. But this can be easily flipped, as Kita can claim 3rd place by finishing 3 spots ahead of Andi in the race, because if they are tied he will lose due to andi finishing in higher positions than him.

I never expected this kind of ending to my little spec series. I was kinda glad Solvi is doing so well, so I would be able to avoid the shitposting about winning my own series, but now I don't want to hand it to him easily. Make sure to practice a lot and do it at night.

You are either a fool or a liar.
If you actually "played it when it came out" you'd know that the game has improved immensely. The physics are better, the tire model is better, there's actual FFB, a shit-ton of cars, a strong modding community, thermodynamic simulation, fuel fire, pneumatic tires, the list goes on.

Yes. It has great physics and really comfy driving, but the multiplayer is a bit buggy and so is the DLC implementation. Indycarfag on mumble had a problem yesterday where his access keys for Wild Run and the season pass were accepted by uplay, but not the game, so it claimed he had a "trial version" which, if you BOUGHT the game actually just means only the original game content is available.

Most of the reviews I've read seem to be people having similar issues and flipping their shit over it as if the game anally violated them by not operating properly the first time.

Way to completely misunderstand my post and misuse the quote function. English isn't your primary language, is it?

>Racing games have come and gone at much better standards by the time this le soft body physics meme has sat dicking about

How about some examples? The last soft-body-physics racing game came out in 2001. What contemporary game even comes close to BeamNG in terms of physics simulation?

>>15336792
It's a physics sandbox. There is nothing built-up about it to _be_ shit. It has no multiplayer, it has no story, it has no money, objective, or point, you just drive around and crash into things and make up your own reason for doing so.

If you can't figure out how to have fun, the problem is not with the game, it is with you.
>>
>>15337015

Who cares if a game has soft body physics if the point is to NOT crash your car? It makes no sense to turn AC or rFactor into a realistic demolition derby simulator just because "muh crashing physics"
>>
>>15337015
>If you can't figure out how to have fun, the problem is not with the game, it is with you.

so, every game is good
>>
>>15337028
Because even though the point of a racing sim is to not crash, everyone knows that in real motorsport, at every level, crashing happens. Collisions happen. Cars bump and rub and are minutely damaged in ways you can't see from your couch.
Most sims doesn't even model this or if they do, exaggerate it due to the limited level of vehicle complexity. Hoods and splitters launch themselves off cars from the slightest taps, deep cavities appear in bodywork after brushing the wall, all these things are inaccuracies and destroy immersion and the whole point of simulating a racing environment.

Have you ever seen the inside of an rF model? There's isn't an engine or a drivetrain or even suspension arms usually. The wheels of an rF car are propelled by invisible text document magic that comes out of the logically-defined, metaphysical transmission, so when you slam it into the wall, the game just moves the suspension arms around, disregarding any damage the now fucked suspension geometry would do to the drivetrain.

BeamNG models the whole vehicle, including the engine, transmission, driveshaft and differential. In simulating a vehicle to this degree, damage much be a factor, as it determines the operating state of all these simulated components. When you nail a wall in BeamNG, you push a wheel and axle across a physical car body, stretching suspension and tearing a driveshaft out of a physically-modelled transmission, all of which you can look under the car and see.

For a simulator to accurately represent vehicle behavior up to the point of collision and then throw its hands up to let vehicles slam into walls or each other with only the most minimal effects is not only an incomplete simulation, but a bad racing game. If you are going to simulate reality, you should simulate all of it, not just what's convenient or adequate.
>>
>>
am i going to have to filter beam ng too
>>
>>15337045
Physics tech demos and such can be great fun. In fact, there are lots of great 2D and 3D soft body physics demos that, to me at least, are just as fun as BNG, but usually aren't as expandable or frequently-updated.

My point is that if there is no clearly defined goal in a video game, it is on the player to entertain themselves. Especially BNG, which is as much a development environment as it is a game, part of the point is to learn the beam meme magic and make your own vehicles.

you can say the same for literally any game. sim or not.

>everything else
It still doesn't make any fucking sense to model your car so intricately in order to call it a simulator. I can just say BeamNG isn't good enough because it's not actually driving a real car, just a binary number calculation to get it *close enough.* With limited computing power you need to draw the line somewhere, and most consumers aren't autistic enough to DEMAND that the body panels are a stiff simulated cloth that tears and punctures at every bump and rub. If you hit a wall hard enough in AC, your car will reflect that. If you just scrape the paint, who cares?

>you can say the same for literally any game. sim or not.
This is precisely why BeamNG is good, it's doing something very few games have attempted: Real time dynamic simulation of an automobile.

>I can just say BeamNG isn't good enough because it's not actually driving a real car, just a binary number calculation to get it *close enough.*

Well, so is rFactor. All simulators--all games are mathematical calculations. BNG actually shows you physically the calculations it's doing and performs deeper mechanical simulation than rFactor. You can see the frame twist and the tires wrinkle when you launch the drag cars, watch the leaf springs, shock absorbers, tires and frame work together to cushion a landing on the Baja trucks, and gain significant understanding of the benefits of body-on-frame construction by slamming a !Crownvic into a !Civic.

I will grant you, some types of collisions, and certain cars are rather glitchy and do not produce realistic results, but I actually have been playing it this entire time, and I do know that the physics have improved massively since release and will continue to do so. All the cars have a ton of variants and the physics continue to improve.

Put on some vaporwave and throw a car off a cliff at 16x slow-mo.
Load up one of the rally cars and go hard like Colin till you break shit.
Go get the CRD monster truck and crush shit.
I don't know, use your own damn imagination, it's not a game for dimwits.

After trashing the E30 in AC i concede that the damage model sucks. It took downshifting from fourth to first to finally blow the engine. But still, once the front suspension and wheel-workings went, you could definitely feel it, even if it wasn't visually noticable.

Not that other guy, but there are plenty of things directly relevant to racing that "normal" sims really suck at, or don't do at all compared to beamNG. BeamNG is not a better track racing sim, because it has a much wider scope, but if computing power wasn't an issue, their model is definitely superior.
Some examples are chassis stiffnes, correct inertias and gyroscopic effects, forces on the car that don't magically disappear when the suspension is at max travel range or when the car bottoms out, actual aerodynamics instead of point forces, handling of any rough surface like kerbs
>>
>>15337590
Why do you think all other sims are Grand Prix Legends?
>>
>>15337606
Nigga I've made my own cars for AC and rF. The "cars" are rigid bodies and they're not even directly connected to the wheels.
Here's a rundown of rF1, which is very similar to AC in architecture

Ok, retard, You obviously have no knowledge at all about how these sims actually work (or else you would know that they're all very similar, I just used rf and AC as an example) I've given you specific examples of things that are not included in modern track racing sims. If I'm wrong about that, please tell me where that changelog is (or even better point to the actual code), because I would be very interested if RF2 or iRacing or whatever had implemented any of those features, since I could update my own cars to include them.

Who the fuck had 16:10 displays in 1995?
I know the standards were in place and there were widescreen CRTs (such as Integraph InterView 28hd96 used by John Carmack), but those were hideously expensive and mainly used by software devs.

Nearly everyone who's ever played Whiplash probably did so on a 4:3 display like every prebuilt shipped with.

Afaik there's nothing in plans. I had a couple of people asking me how hard was it to set up stuff, if I was going to do anything else and stuff like that. The most important things in league organising, are communication and initiative. Hot Version started because I got pissed off after losing connection from the watkins glen race while in 2nd, and I was chatting my team's "owner" about how I wanted to do something casual for once. And after some research and talking with some of my friends in ovg, I decided to go for it. By the second week Ranek chimed in and said we have an AC server sitting doing nothing, and so we got a stable server, instead of imposing on Paul's connection. There are people who would like to do stress free stuff every now and then, but you(or anyone who might be an organiser) will need to talk around with people. Remember, if I can do it out of nowhere, so can you.

What's the better truck driving gayme? ATS or ETS2?
>>
>>15341630
>ETS2

Older game. Much larger base map. Much larger mod base. Greater variety of trucks from standard. Compatible with some older systems.

>ATS

Newer. Uses the same game engine as ETS2 (So a proven engine). 'Murican trucks instead of euro cabovers. New area to explore. Different variety of trailer size (Single axle to 53' dryvans)

At the end of the day, they're pretty much the same game. Just one is based in America. The other in Europe. Which ever takes your fancy should be the winner.

I thought it was 640x400 (at 70hz) which gives 16:10. The fullscreen/background .BM files are 640x400x256 colours (pic related) and if it's anything to go by the videos that dosbox records internally are 640x400 at 70fps (or 320x200 if you select VGA mode).

Widescreen CRT TVs were popular for a while but yeah I'm pretty sure whiplash is meant to be rendered at 4:3.

I like the smaller scale of ATS, I enjoy picking up and dropping loads more often then just driving on highways for long periods of time like in ETS, longer trucks and trailers add variety.

ETS has more content though kind of annoying how the DLCs are more detailed then the OG countries.

That's more than likely a money issue.

SCS started off with the 18 WoS series which was never amazingly popular. It was ETS2 which got them where they are.

I think they started with like 12 staff at ETS2 release and have now doubled or even tripled since. It makes sense the new areas are more detailed IMO
>>
>>15342100
Would've rather they down scaled like in ATS then the blandness, If you played ETS1 it feels 1:1 to ETS2 in boredom, atleast you get more feel for the steering.

You can tell it's not meant to be at 4:3 because the circles in the menu are squished and the cars' bodies and wheels are squished and deform as they rotate in the camera viewport. Also if you look closely at the title font when in 4:3, the pixels are very clearly not square.

I got the resolution by checking my LCD monitor's status menu, which reports a resolution of 720x400 @70hz running Whiplash natively from a Win98/DOS machine. This is a 16:10 monitor that usually displays at 1440x900. It allows me to adjust the aspect ratio of the Interplay intro movie which IS in 4:3, but not the game, which will only display fullscreen and is very clearly suited to this monitor.

Dosbox will render Whiplash in 4:3 unless you disable Aspect Correction, at which point it displays in the correct ratio.

Also, while Dosbox may record video based on the selected aspect ratio, it does not take screenshots that way. This was captured with Aspect Correction on, with a 4:3 ratio, but look what it came out as! This is that 640x400 res you're talking about, right?

I suppose my monitor could be scaling the image (I don't know much about their specific hardware), and it's such a small scale that it still looks really good, but I'm noticing I can see the road and its lines much further before it turns into a pixelated mess. I don't run with filters in Dosbox usually so I'm not sure where this visual difference is coming into play.

Time to go bother Mr. Hibbard on Twitter again.

CRTs don't have native resolutions, pixels don't have to be squares (and in fact they aren't at that resolution), but there's no filtering when they aren't, and you can't really tell they're not perfect squares anyway

LCDs have set native resolutions and also you can't make pixels non-square, so aspect ratio correction can be done only by either filtering, which causes blurring on the pixels that aren't divisible by the aspect ratio; or scale the image so that source pixels can be drawn by undivided "real" pixels (i.e. make 1 game "pixel" X pixels wide and Y pixels high)

I'm pretty sure dosbox records video and takes screenshots at the internal res unless there's some setting to change it, but on mine it does both at 640x400 anyway. I don't have an old PC at my disposal sadly but running it on 98SE in a VM gives the same result. It's been a while since I last heard The Microsoft Sound lel
>>
>>15342756
I think you may have misunderstood, I know how the technology works, I'm just not sure what my specific hardware is doing.
I'm getting noticably better graphical fidelity than when the game is run in Dosbox, which is confusing the hell out of me because it's a fixed-resolution game. This monitor is definitely scaling the image as there are a few artifacts, but none as consistent or noticeable as when the ratio is wrong.
Of course, Whiplash with 1GHz and 256 MB of RAM behind it runs so smooth it's like playing a different game entirely, so it could just be that. Fast doesn't begin to describe it.

However, your screenshots illustrate my point about the aspect ratio. The car stats gauges should all be perfectly circular. You can see that the font on the gauges in the aspect-corrected pic is also stretched vertically in an odd way, as if it were scaled, while the screenshot with no correction has crisp, well-defined text

if you're using an LCD display at anything other than its native resolution, it is definitely scaling internally, unless you set it not to scale and instead display the image in a small box (something like pic related)

>The car stats gauges should all be perfectly circular
they don't have to be, and you wouldn't notice it on a CRT anyway

It may depend on your renderer settings. Direct3d may allow you to take a screenshot outside of native res of the game.

>>15343063
So if the game runs at 640x400, but it displays without borders, or stretching at 720x400 in SVGA mode, what fucking resolution is it supposed to be? I know the display is scaling, but but it is not stretching the image to make up the extra 100 lines, which means the game must run at 720x400, right?

On a CRT there are no scaling artifacts because the transition between phosphors is smoother than LCD pixels, but your aspect ratio is still wrong and yes I would totally notice and start fiddling with the adjustment dials.

Say what you will about the UI, but wheels are definitely supposed to be round.
>>
>>15343269
>I know the display is scaling, but but it is not stretching the image
this makes no sense - scaling *is* either stretching or shrinking, and it's unlikely you're using a display with a resolution lower than 640x400 that you have to shrink it

>On a CRT there are no scaling artifacts because the transition between phosphors is smoother than LCD pixels
not much sense here either, CRT monitors don't actually do any scaling, and "phosphors" don't work as some individual pixel matrix like in an LCD display

Goddammit I keep wanting to buy either project Cars or Assetto Corsa. I hear all this bad shit about both of them but the only decent singleplayer racer that I have is Race 07 and that game is pretty outdated at this point. I just want a decent racer that looks good and feels fast. From what I hear Project Cars and AC fail on those counts. My computer is old af and probably won't run AC very well (although Dirt Rally runs pretty decently on my cpu) and at 22 bucks it still doesn't seem worth it.

Are there any alternatives? I just want a Forza 4 like game on PC.....

Ah sweet, cheers mate.
>>
>tfw my wheel is worth more than any single component in my computer
why is this hobby so fucking expensive
>>
>>15346080
it's cheap compared to most hobbies unless you got a direct drive wheel and motion seat or some shit
>>
>>15346080
>tfw $50 dfgt
>pushed piece of sponge inside the brake pedal plastic and now it's just as functional as any other proper wheel

this hobby is not expensive, you just enjoy wasting money on it

i don't judge though, i also love wasting money. one day i'll probably get t300/t500 and three monitors, or at least 21:9 (meh)
>>
>>15346080
Mind you, tryhards gamers tend to have those really expensive keyboards and mouses, with a combined price of a G27, or even most at times. It's just that we focus on our simracing stuff more than others. I've neglected my mouse and keyboard, so I can get a load cell mod for my pedals.

The engines don't have a rev limiter, so you have to be careful while bring the car to high RPMs.

/ovgequine/ when?
>>
>>15345802
No aids, okayama at night. Use the c/s engine and shift at 9000rpm
>>
>>15346520
>no aids
isn't ABS allowed?
>>
>>15346569
Nope. Real racers don't need it. Good luck if you're not using a wheel though.

Wanna know comfy?

Try a Euro 6 MAN TGX with 630hp pulling 21t of fresh fish from Iceland to Romania.

>>15345487
180sx and sil80 are one of the best mods in AC though. which at the very least match the quality of the official content

Also getting stuck behind a concrete mixer is semi comfy.
>>
>>15345487
Not only is there an incredibly good 180sx/Sileighty mod for AC like >>15346588 said but also an 787B mod which probably is the best mod for AC atm.

>would show a great screenshot of it

Hello everyone.

Here is an updated version of the ae86 mod, adds a bigger fuel tank and cleans up some problems. The steering fix is also added in.

That reminds me. Doesn't Forza use FMod for its sounds like AC does? Wouldn't this make sound conversions pretty easy?

730HP Scania Streamline here, more than 60000km clocked in it at this point. Hard to resist going 150km/h every time.

I just didn't want to race alone, i went to /vg/ before i found out about /o/
>>
>>15347054
Probably because of the engrish vocals and because it just sounds like something that would fit very well into a late 90s Sega arcade game (good example: https://youtu.be/qQa9CIxE_lE)

Those reasons are exactly why I love it though
