Do I meet up with this guy or not /dat/
dream car and easy life for a few years...
just have to be with a old dude...
>>

>>

If you're cool with being this guy's bitch for a few years then go for it.

I did ask him out flat if he wanted sex and he said no. I guess I'd be willing to suck a dick if I had to for the car and house...
>>
>>13975323
Alright the. Just make absolutely SURE the car will be in your name and if at all possible have everything else that you can in your name. He'll drop you one day and you don't want to come out empty handed.

Help me dat, sick as a fucking dog and can't sleep. Would smoke a cone but my throat is fucked right now.

Should I start mixing my flu tablets with alcohol?

What's the big deal with it being in my name, obviously I get when he ends things I'll get to keep it that way. But are there any other reasons to get it in my name?

That's the only reason really. One day he'll just kick you out and you'll have shit all.

Alright guys. Fairly certain I'm going to pickup a KE70 or AE71 to learn how to wrench.

Got most of what I want to do worked out got a few questions left though.

Should I just buy any old piece of shit, or should I pay a little more for one that's got less rust. I don't intend to turn it into a race car, but I'll probably have it for a couple years.

Also going to go with a 16V 4AGE, the carb conversion (Weber) really appeals to me, but wondering if it's totally pointless? I figure it sounds killer and would allow me to tune the car myself in the future. Or am I totally wrong?

I've got a few friends keen to get involved, most have some experience in various fields. Two built cars up themselves, so I should have experienced minds to call on when I get stuck.

its not that hard to make a 4K perform. its just getting expesive to find things like the twin carborettor set ups.
only go with the twin cam set up if you have a lot of spare money lying around. otherwise keep the 4K or swap for a 5K (1400cc) but those are getting a bit thin on the ground now. 4K is still cheap to run and un-killable

Should I buy a BMW bros?
>>
>>13977428
Don't get an E32, 7er's have always been a bitch to maintain. I'd get an E34 instead, they look really similar and are one of the most reliable BMW's made.
>>
>>13977442
Why is a 7er so much more difficult to maintain?

I'm open to recs for the E34 though. Which ones are best?
>>
>>13977443
They're the flagship model and have a lot of extra frivolous features that break easily, it's the same with the other high end German cars. As for E34's I'd go for a 535i or a later model 525i with the M50 engine, avoid the 530i's with the V8 they're shit. 540i's are hard to come by and a bit more high maintenance but they're a lot better than the 530.
>>
>>13977405
>pay extra and get the ones oned by the little old ladies only driven to church on sundays....
I figured that might be the way to go. The frustrating part is my mum had an AE86 and a Torana when I was younger. She gave them both away not knowing what they were.

I use my bike as my every day vehicle. The main point of the car is to teach myself to wrench and to have something that's fun to drive around. Sort of the appeal of a carb swap to me, I can tune it myself.

I'm pretty determined to do a 4AGE swap. Don't get me wrong, I'll probably tweak the stock motor for a bit, but in the long run I definitely want to do a swap. It's mainly a learning project for me.

>>13977428
>>13977443
I probably wouldn't get that one. Heavy, old and automatic. BMWs automatics were pretty shit at that point in time. 240,000km is enough that you'll be encountering problems too.

I'd probably steer clear of BMWs unless you know what you're doing or have money to spend. Don't get me wrong, my E36 wasn't an expensive car to own, but small random things can be absurd.

If it's your run around car get something cheap and reliable.
>>
>>13977428
>7 is just an angrier looking 5

>>
>>13977455

>If it's your run around car get something cheap and reliable.

I've done slight wrenching on E36s and I'd likely only drive it maybe 2 or 3 days of the week.

If I had to pick an E39 then, what engine would be best on one of those? It can't be a V8 though.
>>
>>13977463
>it can't be a V8 though
Are you a P-Plater? All the more reason to get something cheap and reliable if you are.

If you're in that boat save the BMW for your fulls and get a nice one.
>>
>>13977467
Can you give me a list of nice ones under 5 grand? I think I will just wait then but I'd like an idea of whats good. Something pre-2000s though since I at least know BMW reliability took a shit after 2000.

The biggest financial mistake I made was buying a nice car on my Ps. Just get something cheap for now.

>>13977486
It's not about going fast to me at all. It's about learning how to work on engines myself. I have a good theoretical knowledge, but almost no practical experience.

Very funny. Once I address the issues it'll be fine. Besides the stuff I need to fix, the rest of the car is top notch.

Got one of the replacement non-nikasil engines, coil overs all around, later model E36 5-speed, coolant and water system were replaced, etc.

It never got beaten on either, I cruise in the hills. If I want to go fast I use a bike, it's a lot more fun that way.

>The M3's here are mostly auto, and if not they're $30k.
Um? I see manual E36 M3s in Adelaide all the time for around the 15 mark.

Of course, it's just a little more hardcore.
The gaseous emissions go through our underwear while making hektic skidz.

High KM's but it looks sexy as fuck. I wonder why it's so cheap here.
>>
>>13977908
>What's wrong with it now?
Same stuff as the last time I mentioned it, I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Besides the obvious, it's been super reliable.

I don't get you think it's some piece of shit though, it's dirty as hell at the moment, but mines a pretty great example when it's clean. It's hardly a lemon by any stretch of the imagination.

It's on my to-do list. I only need to put a new pulley in to get it running again. But I've been putting it off until I do a few other bits and pieces as well. Just been a pretty crazy year.

>>13977911
Just be patient. It's not like they don't exist. E46 M3s are always around 30-40k for a good manual, E36s float around 15-20k. I've seen them go for 10-15k before, but that's where I'd start to be looking pretty closely.

>>13977922
I'm going on a bike. 38C isn't a big deal for riding at all. Plus it's a quicker run home. Riding in the hills is stupid at the moment with the zealous police crackdown.

>>13977929
>I wonder why it's so cheap here

Was in the hills a few weeks ago. Saw plenty of cops sitting anywhere they could. Corners, straights, anything you can name. They've been deploying the camo bi-directional cameras as well specifically to target bikes.

with a nigrigged light source, just trial and error really

the distance from light source to subject pretty much makes all the difference, if I'm doing a whole car shot using the torch+softbox, I'll start off at 30s, f4, and iso 400

when dealing with ambient light also, I'll just start off with rough settings and tweak them after a few test shots

>>
>>13978346
if I eventually have the spare money, I might consider something like an aftermarket exhaust

when I did my rear shocks, I went for a test drive around the block with my exhaust post-cat removed (have to take it off to get at the left-rear shock)

it was much louder than I expected it to be
