What the hell is cycle cross and how do you brake when going down steep hills with bars like that.
you hold down those things sticking off the handlebars
>>971813
disc brakes are very dangerous though, you could fly over the bars
there is a reason UCI requires rim brakes
>>971826
Yes, neo-luddism
>>971826
Riding downhill is dangerous though, you could snap your neck
There is a reason why your mom tells you not to ride down those cliffs
what if you drown in the mud or choke to death on a piece of grass
i'll stick to the road
>>971826
The cantilever years were much worse because the metal brake cables could break apart and whip the riders
By not being bad at cycling
>>971813
I actually spend more time in the drops than anywhere else. I have compact drop bars and the flatter drops make it more comfortable to climb and spin with
>>971855
Edit: shit I thought you meant the brake hoods
>>971841
>be me
>be hardcore roadie
>actually make these excuses to myself
>>972178
someday when i'm out mountain biking i'm gonna huck my rig off the wrong berm and get my head swatted off by a mad mama bear
>>971844
You jest, but if the cantilever bridge came off the hook/screw that connects it to the brake wire it would dig into the front tyre, lock the front wheel and faceplant the rider. Yet somehow, this was never reason enough to ban cantilevers in UCI races.
>>971841
I'm not seeing much mud or grass
>>971810
>how do you brake when going down steep hills with bars like that.
>brake
>Consciously choosing to go slower
ultro keks
>>972233
why didn't mini-V's get used much before the dick takeover?
>>971810
Easy, you ride your bike any where and everywhere while getting to know its limitations. You further make modifications to your liking to slightly remove a small possibility of you crashing, and for the braking part? You just hang on for dear life hoping to slow down just enough to make the turn, or dismount and literally run over it. Very precise delicate job to keep up the pace.
>>971854
Why are you off-roading with no shocks?
>>975642
He doesn't need them. Why do you?
>>975642
shocks are for pussies
>>975642
Don't need shocks to rail some dirt, brah
>>975642
found the faggot.
Why use shocks when they absorb so much damn energy from your efforts pedalling?
>git gud
>>975666
>what is traction
If you're riding so slow & grandmotherly that you have traction without suspension, it is you that needs to git gud
Wow it's almost like cyclocross bikes are designed totally wrong. You all should totally take your dual squish bikes to a race and blow everyone's minds with your incredible gnar shredding and delicate taints
>>975760
cyclocross bikes are designed to meet the UCI-imposed design restrictions for cyclocross bikes. Are you even allowed to have disc brakes? Still stuck with 40c and lower?
Yes. They are designed totally wrong.
>>975767
UCI allowed disc brakes on CX several years ago.
>>975760
The problem with recent CX is they've made them more and more gnar in order to cater to the people who wanted to pretend to be hardcore MTB/trials riders on road bikes. This makes doing them on skinny tire bikes increasingly pointless.
Traditionally, CX was more of a mixed surface kind of race.
I wouldn't want to take a real tough decline on mine, and the front washes out easily in soft stuff but it's pretty fun to feel like you're hauling ass on a mellow trail.
>>975642
Because i can haul ass down trails without them and climb trails faster than any mountain bike. Also most trails are too easy to warrant a mountain bike
>>975741
Who says you need traction? Also you underestimate the grip of a good set of shwalbe or Hutchinson cx tires
>>975866
No, you can't and no, you can't.
You're riding slow on track smoother than most pavement. Which can be fun. But don't try to talk it up into something it's not.
>>975872
??? Most cross racers are roadies. Ya know cause road season is only so long.
>>975876
I definitely do a lot of gravel grinding on my cx bike, but most of the trails I'm riding are not smooth by any means. So you can fuck off
