So NASA is holding an airship design and construction competition.

The prizes are:

Award 1-- A proposed $1.0M will be split between teams successfully completing Tier 1 within 3 years of the challenge initiation. A possible scenario for splitting the Tier 1 prize money is 4 prizes of $500k, $250k, $125k and $125k, starting from the first to demonstrate to the fourth.

Award 2: A proposed $1.5M will be awarded to the first successful demonstration of Tier 2 within four years of challenge initiation.

What do you think of this /n/? What aboutta blimp train?
>>
ITT: /n/ designs an airship

my proposal to the design is that it must have Janney couplers.

I think you mean "only rich people could afford to fly and therefore expectations were different"

Don't kid yourself, if you had been born in the right decade, you would have been packed in third class on a train, like the rest of the scum.

Plus luxury flying never went away. Can't remember which sand nigger airline has this but they have showers. Fucking showers.

Also, due to medical advances I'm happy to live in this era and look forward to the future.

>he thinks $500 round trip to cross the atlantic ocean is unreasonable because it's a gay guy pouring diet coke instead of a 20 year old lovely pouring tattinger
In today's dollars those flights were easily 20x the cost of what they are now

Nobody is putting words in your mouth, you're following the script to the T

All you need now is to start tipping your fedora
>>
>>939367
Yes, it was more expensive, but you got what you paid for
>>
>>939369
>you got what you paid for
As opposed to now, when you don't?
>>
>>939371
Excuse me if I think getting packed into a dirty sardine can in a tiny chair next to a complete stranger who possibly didn't even shower while getting ignored by flight attendants hurling peanuts across a cabin isn't worth the $500 you're expected to pay. The least they could do is add a bit of space in between the rows of seats.
>>
>>939377
You'd rather spend it packed like a dirty sardine on a steamship and taking a month to get to your destination while eating shit quality food for a month that may or may not literally give you food poisoning, instead of the indignity of packaged snack food for 7 hours? Because that's what you'd have been doing back in the "good old days"

If you want le wrong decade experience you are free to spend the equivalent of what they spent back then, and fly in obscene luxury far better than what le civilized gentlesirs had available to them. Or you could spend a third of that and get a comparable experience.

Or, since you don't even have a third of $10,000, then you can bitch and moan about getting teleported to the other side of the globe while bitching that the flight attendant should fellate you for the extortionate fare of $500.

Dude, I'm just asking for a little extra legroom and a comfortable chair on a plane, and maybe a little character to the passenger cabin, you've got some anger issues to work out
>>
>>939380
I don't know what you think "projection" means but whatever it is, it's wrong. But I can see you don't have anything meaningful to say in defense of your position, so perhaps now you can move through the defaults. Call me a faggot. Say "ad hominem" or "straw man". And so on.

You can have your legroom if you want it. Very few regularly scheduled routes have no options for legroom. Some EAS routes, bush flying, and other obscure scenarios. Do you fly a lot of those routes? Because that is the only possible explanation for why you think you can't have legroom.
>>
>>939382
I just said flying was a classier and more comfortable activity when it was still young, a decidedly un-controversial statement, you're over here spouting unrelated shit off and attacking me personally for saying as much. Grow up.
>>
>>939382
And yes, you're projecting. You're putting shit in my mouth that I never said so you can refute an argument I never made in an attempt to defend a position I never opposed, all in an attempt to make it look like everyone else is as insecure as you. You're putting your bullshit on me. That's projecting.
>>
>>939384
Every post I have made has been directly related to your post, and most of the posts you've made in response have been weak attempts at denying that you were saying exactly what you were saying.

The irony of a poor person who has never flown first class whining about the indignity of modern economy class while waxing nostalgic about the good old days when ordinary people could never dream of flying on an airplane is apparently lost on you.
>>
>>939389
Let me tell you how a normal person would have started this conversation

I would have said
>Man, airline travel was so much nicer back in the day

And then you would have said
>Yes, but it was much more expensive, and most people took the train

And then I would have said
>Very true, but you could expect very good customer service for your money

And you would have said
>Yes, this is true, but it was out of reach for most folks until recently

And I would have said
>Very true, it was something of a luxury service, after all, it didn't have the market penetration it does today, and aircraft were more expensive to operate and maintain, this is a point I cannot argue

And we would have had a pleasant conversation.

Instead you sit there calling me names like a child.
>>
>>939393
>tl;dr
You can just say "you were right", instead you posted all that asspain
>>
>>939402
I'm not the one making broad statements about other people's income and posting shit unrelated to the thread, a thread about a luxury air-travel service from the 1930s. You can admit you're wrong at any time.
>>
>>939403
Actually the thread is about blimps. And you didn't have to say you were poor, just as you didn't have to say you have fantasies of having been born a patrician gentleman in the 1930s. It can easily be inferred from your posts.

It is 92 meters in length. Comparison, The USS Akron airship was 240 meters in length, the Hindenburg 245 meters.
