or this type of wheel?

lmao, these guys love the high priced aerodynamic gear.

They say its 80% diet 20% training

Disc wheel

> heavier
> more aero
> crosswinds make it too dangerous to use in front

Mostly for track, time trial, triathlon, or sweet fixin

Aero wheels

Somewhere in between standard rims and disc.

Deep section wheels

Basically, both types of wheel are more aerodynamic than a traditional wheel. This makes you slightly faster if you're cycling on a mostly flat course (e.g. a time trial, or any form of track cycling)

However, deep section wheels and especially disc wheels are also heavier because they use more material. So disc wheels are not used for road cycling where you're going up and down hills a lot, where the extra weight is more of a cost than the aerodynamic-ness is a benefit.

These days, pros will use relatively deep-sectioned wheels when out on the road, because it's a good balance between a bit of an aerodynamic advantage without adding very much extra weight. Then they'll use a rear disc wheel for time trials

Suicide wheels, at least in my city. It often gusts over 60kmh. I was blown off my bike riding regular rims when it gusted up to 90. Saw another rider ride two discs, and was wobbling on a day with gentle breeze. Probably wasnt a pleasant ride.

Maybe bodybuilding or some such faggotry. Cycling is like 90% training.

Only true on very steep grades with weak riders. It has been shown for normal climbs for pros, aero is still worth it uphill, and especially downhill. That's why pros no longer try for a true 6.8kg bike and why the idea of ballast on bikes is nonsense. They just slap on a medium depth wheel set.

incorrect

Discs are used for flat TTs and track riding and thats it. They are heavy and annoying in wind.

TTs with significant climbing usually sees pretty mild rim profiles- 30-55m.
>>
Well i have wheels without any of this extra aero stuff dunno. Its very windy here and only flats. Do i need any of these or which weels are great for wind + flat terrain?
>>
>>933169
That T3 setup is making me deeply uncomfortable

>55mm

>>
>>933907
profiles in the 50s are medium depth, not very extreme aero
>>
>>933169
We call those "Roundies" in Finland. If you'd ever ridden on the old triangular wheels you wouldnt even be asking these dumb questions and thats how I know you're a tryhard summertime furshit.
>>
>>933169
It's a disc wheel and they're only used on time trial or triathlon bikes. It would be silly to use one on a road bike.
>>
>>933169
What's its number?
>>
>>934239
What if you're doing a time trial on your road bike?
>>
>>934036
50s are not medium depth.
>>
>>933169
I think Fred has unconsciously bought a rear wheel that resembles a pizza cutter because there are obviously many pizzas in his stomach.

Aero Disc Wheel
>>
>>933592
why would they use discs for TT? they hardly brake... and its not more aero is it?
