I call bull. When I was a kid I learned that they actually slide on top of the ice and then break it with own weight. I doubt they have heated hulls, imagine the amount of energy required to do so.

They're even crazier actually, currently testing a laser system to score ice for easier icebreaking, though that's probably a cover for developing a military naval laser system.

The USA is critically low on ice breakers. Overly reliant on helicopters and airplanes to to work in Alaskan waters.

In USCG there's no guarantee. You can ask for a district and there's a very small chance you could get an icebreaker. Healy or Polar Star in Seattle (these are the big ones that go to the North Pole) or small black hull icebreakers by the Great Lakes. I had tried and failed.
