This board's been slow lately so I may as well.

Yeah, why not? Though not sure whether you want a thread about railways that are British or one about British Railways?
Non-142s and 156s when?
Noice

Hopefully they'll scrap the pacers because of disability regulations. That or they'll refurbish the things and extend the torture.

>can't standardize platform height
Loading gauge doesn't have anything to do with platform height; just platform & structure clearances.
Ever been somewhere like Germany on a train? The carriages have steps inside. Some of the smaller stations have platforms basically at ground level.
in the last few days we've had Horses on the Line, a roof come off and 500m of overhead lines blow down.
Not been a particular good time in the north-east. Well worse than normal anyway.
Have another qt class 323. I miss the old Centro livery, despite how crap it was.

There was murmurs of replacing Pacers with refurbished tube trains.

I've heard that a deal was struck by Tasrail to send a bunch (if not all) of its old EE locomotives back to the UK.
Any idea what the fuck someone in the UK wants with a bunch of old 3'6" locos?
That train looks like it has downs sydrome OP
>>903985
is this five ways?
>>904888
Is it for a museum or heritage railway?
A lot of 387/2 testing on the Brighton Mainline at the moment, 201-6 may be getting introduced in to the Gatex fleet very soon. New winter timetable this Sunday will have 2 Gatwick Express trains an hour going on to Brighton.

I will be sad to see the Wessex Electrics go.
I remember these machines. A whole nut or a fruit and nut was a treat. And I remember the train windows having leather straps that you pulled and fastened if you wanted to open a window. Some of the newer trains had windows that would slide down, but you could only open the door from the outside, meaning you'd get your sleeve dirty.
I suppose I sound as old now as my dad did when he'd tell me about steam trains.
>>904888
damn, should have been on the lookout for some cool old pommy hardware while i've been living there.

New Street. I'd recognise that drab concrete anywhere.
>>903985
>Hopefully they'll scrap the pacers
They're doomed. Next franchise holder won't use 'em. Already announced.
>>905674
That doesn't mean the train lenders won't just rent them out to another TOC.
>>904888
>Any idea what the fuck someone in the UK wants with a bunch of old 3'6" locos?
Engines & traction motors? Fuck all else. There aren't any 3'6" railways in the UK.
>>905187
I caught a FGW train today that only opens from the outside, they're still pretty common.

Pacers are third world tier. Even India has better trains.
So this is a thing now, it's good after several years of it being teased with different operators.
Only thing that needs to be down now is fix up the station and the city and the region
+1 for bestest trains

156s are fine for short journeys.
New Northern Rail franchisee bid includes promise to phase out Pacers by 2018. We'll fucking see.
>>906527
They're being replaced by Class 230s, which are ex District Line trains.
Anything is better than pacers.
>>906534
I thought they were going to be class 278s... D78 to 278. Where did 230 come from?

Lots of places could have that as their tagline. Most of them would prefer "Better than somewhere that is better than Hull".

It was a condition in the Invitation To Tender (though with a deadline of 2020). The Pacers' doors are reckoned by the regulator to be insufficiently safe and they've been on the doomed list for years.
>>906534
>They're being replaced by Class 230s
Nope. Rebuilds are explicitly not permitted as replacements for the Pacers. Read the ITT yourself. It's a public document.

Got a 6 hour train journey to Southampton coming up, the longest i've been on in the UK.
Has anyone here been on the Caledonian Sleeper?
>>920691
There's 0% need to take a sleeper for 6 hours. I did Plymouth to Portsmouth and back yesterday, 10 hours all up and I was comfy.
>>920728
The Caledonia Sleeper is 12 hours from Fort William to London |Kings Cross. It looks comfy as heck.
>>920755
Yeah the night Riviera is shithouse desu, you can do London to Penzance in a bit over 4.5 hours. If you take the sleeper you need the cabins because you get woken up by lights at every station. I haven't done the Caledonian but, this is coming from an Aussie that has taken train journeys all over the world, there is no need for a sleeper train in Britain
>>920773
>there is no need for a sleeper train in Britain

One of the new Gatex 4 cars was being used for stock for the Thameslink service between Gatwick and Bedford today. The livery was still unfinished so dunno what is going on there, apparently they are supposed to be starting being introduced to service by the end of this month.
>>916018
3g/4g can't go through the steel body, only through the windows, and the 222 has pretty tiny windows.
