It's amazing how much distance I've logged on my heavy ass mtb. I was a NEET for 4 months so they were mainly rides with grills/grocery shopping or running errands. I didn't create bike profiles until late spring, so the distance is probably higher than pic related.
The mtb is typically equipped with a wooden crate. Didn't like the look of a milk crate, but the weight of a wooden crate is really something I should have considered.

Didn't get on my road bike for the past two weeks, only my 90's rigid mtb with slicks. I actually can't wait for winter. A couple more weeks and I'll slap on my studs. Hopefully the first snowfall is soon, but it is unseasonally warm. Typically the first snow day would have gone down about this time of october.

Got myself some bar mitts and it's making me eager to try it out.

Perth? Wonder how much plane tickets cost.

Also wouldn't you need to do something to qualify and enter the race?
>>
>>890926
Im not sure how much it will cost but to qualify you have to place in a UCI sanctioned amateur event (normally a grand fondo) in the top 20% of your aged bracket. I think. At-least thats what i had to do to qualify.

I used Straza Mate for a while. Never had trouble with the actual upload section, but numerous times you pull your phone out after a ride and it's all reset.

Don't know if it was because of my phone shitting out or having buttons ghost pressed in jersey pockets, but it was annoying enough to make me get a cyclocomputer.

Hey MATES, just felt the need to aware you that itbs surgery is the best option for anyone who has had it band problems for more than 50 days without relief.

Tbh, I'm already back to being able to run and ride as much as I want on the knee I got the operation on, literally holding back so I don't develop the problem in the other knee as well...
desu guys wish I had got in both knees at same time boys.

Basically, don't be like me and waste 11 months vigorously doing 1:30 of pt a day + stretches and getting injections and dry needling, just get the surgery if you haven't fixed it in like a month lol desu especially for people who wants to be good at riding a bike lol desu

Lads, need serious advice since my coach is busy doing coach things.

I got this bloody surgery on my right knee, it's been 100% and I can do about anything I want on it without it even getting swollen after only 62 days or something. But my left knee (the one I didn't get surgery on) has been intermittently hurting for just 5-10 pedal strokes or 5-10 steps (walking) at a time. I know if I push it hard right now it'll probably develop into hurting as much as my right did before the operation.

The question is, do I push it now and almost definitely get the surgery and build back up to this point over another 60 days, or do I wait until there is races and lots of training at stake?

Also senpai lads, I'm seriously worried that losing the entirety of 2015s races will basically destroy my chances at being even semi-pro. Maybe I'm just deluded, but last year my ftp was something like 340-365 watts and 63-67 kilos at my highest last year and honestly feel I won't be able to achieve it again if I have to juggle training with having a job and knee problems lol, lads, senpai, mates... baka please help
>>
>>895665
Nigga races dont mean shit, just recover and talk to your coach. Go talk to a specialist and work at getting that other knee better. DONT ever ride with pain like you've describe. I know cycling is all about pain but appropriate pain. Gains come back quick

How much power gains should I expect to get each month? I'm only doing 185 watts at threshold and it feels like I've been there for the past year. Winter is here, so I'll be doing HIIT on the gym bikes and 30 minute commutes. Losing weight down to 56kg is my goal at the end of winter, currently at 67kg.

tl;dr : What power improvement in % is it possible for me to gain from now until spring (May), currently 185 watts ftp

How was the training this weekend fellas? How are the goals for autumn coming along?

I had my first ride in about six months and I'm very happy about it. I had some lower back pain and saddle discomfort as I imagined I would have, but right now post-ride I'm feeling fabulous. I can't remember the last time I felt this well. Bicycles are magical, yo.

My goals for the remainder of autumn and winter are:

>ride 5 hours a week. (well, more if I can pull it off, but I'm keeping it realistic)
>work on and maintain a decent diet to regain muscle mass
>>
>>891003
My uncle was in a similar accident on his bike. He was going 110mph on a straightway, hit a rock or something and was ejected from the bike. He didn't have a single scratch or bruise so he quit riding that day (has a kid, wife). It's uncommon but physics I guess.

Yea to the few people I've met who have been riding their road/touring bikes on the roads less traveled for as long as I've known them.

my opinion is split

I don't hate the marketing trend because the bike tire industry is making some nice stuff.

I do hate that most of the "adventure bikes" are rehashed cyclocross bikes without tabs/braze-ons for pumps or racks. Who wants to carry food, tools, a pump, spare tubes, and clothing on your back for 5+ hours?

:OOOOOOOOO
sorry desu :PPP

>>
>>915165
Why have you been riding so little lately, though- tapering for a race?
>>
>>915173
Yeah... kinda :\
Work really hit me hard towards the end of last year, my diet turned to shit and due to Australian summer heat my sleep quality and hours really dropped. So overall i couldnt really train that much without feeling crazy fatigue and underperforming like a bitch.
Things look good for the next few months though. Im racing next week in my states Hill climbing champs which i plan to use as a launching platform into increasing my weekly mileage on the bike. But all of that cant happen if i dont lift my game off the bike i.e.: stretching, nutrition and sleep.
Otherwise i want to get a base line of 15hours on the bike per week by March aiming at around 650hours total bike by the end of the year.
I have missed quite a few races this year already but my local scene is rather critt focused atm so you will see more action from me on that part in a few weeks when races start hitting up the climbs n I can do the dropping.
My main goal of last year was to build towards stronger fitness so i can spend this year learning race craft and building a rep profile while improving myself as an athlete.
But yolo aye, it was a big year last year, alot of improvements and alot happened. I managed to improve my FTP to 340, drop 8kg, hit 6watts per kg for 5mins, find a waifu and join an interstate biku team as a development rider.
So yeah just resting and soaking it in to focus again sensei desu. Can be a bitch throwing down 35hours as a chef assistance den go out training for another 15hours.
>>
>>915529
WHERE THERE IS WILL THERE IS WAY

I work all dang day as a 9-5 wage slave and then ride for a few hours in the cold dark all alone. whats ur weight brah? 340 ftp is hella impressive strong boi

What do you guys think?
Im thinking about either changing the Blue bit to yellow, and polka dot accordingly to represent the different jerseys colours or just having this as the 40km monthly TT jersey... idk

Just learned that by doing 27,000 miles over 2 years in every weather condition on a single bike will essentially fuck it up if you don't replace chit every fking moment of your life.

Bike shop said they put in extra large bearings in my bottom bracket because the other ones fucked the frame, I guess that's what I get for not having enough money to replace bottom bracket chit every months lel.

Basically as u guys may remember I fucked my frame because I don't even into bike maintencance. Decided to buy a madone 4 point something frame... downgrading from my madone 5.2 frame. I guess? was 1/2 the price of the equivalent of my 5.2 lmao. Somehow one model up is 900+ dollar difference. ne way, don't think it matters.

The guys at the bike shop said that the bottom bracket bearings got seized and then basically slid around in the frame grinding it away

I'm guessing it was partly because of infrequent riding/riding in shit conditions lol, had no idea that would happen tho. I guess it's just a matter of getting the bearings replaced after riding in shit weather?

Sincerely,
Aaron DeForsky
>>
>>929165
desu you should be able to tell if your bearings are gone to shit. If your BB is a pressfit bb86 like older Giant/Scott/etc get a hawk racing BB. I had terrible luck with OEM bbs but this shit has been smooth for a while. They also offer a "CX" seal which adds like .2 watts of resistance but makes it even less likely to get fucked up by the elements.

however with it being a Trek they should of just replaced the frame through their warranty program tbqh. Maybe if you weren't so huge and fucking freaky they would of extended that offer to you.
>>
>>929183
This desu, if you're not fat and don't say you race, they will usually just automatically warranty it.

guys my work wants me to go visit our factories in China. Shehnzen, Shanghai, & Xiamen will be the areas I probably visit. Likelyhood of me being able to bring my bike is very low. Recommendations? I will probably try to get a heavy workout before leaving and treat those 10 days away as rest with intermediate running/use of hotel spin bikes.

luckily it doesn't interfere with my race schedule -- state TT & crit are two weeks before and I have a stage race the weekend before, should be due for rest after all that. Also I'm very afraid of dying or getting cancer from the horrible smog over there??

So, are we allowed to talk about actual shinkansen in this thread?

Anyone tried Gran Class? Is it worth it?
>>
>>936387
Maybe next time. I seriously considered it when I was there but it seemed like a waste of the JR Pass (both Green and regular JR Pass give you a ~10000 yen discount on Gran Class, but even then it was a hefty jump over a Green seat I had effectively already paid for)
The Hokkaido Shinkansen will mean you can enjoy it for longer though, at a price. That and there's meant to be a View Gold lounge opening somewhere in Tokyo Station soon to further try and emulate the airline experience which Gran Class travellers can access
Even still, it's obviously not the best value product for most stretches, then again it's only double the Green Car surcharge which in itself is cheaper than the JR Central one and lands you couple of free drinks on top of the usual wet towel. But I guess with the Tokyo-Aomori and longer Gran Class runs, you might as well take advantage of the bottomless booze, bearing in mind the food serving is relatively small so buy at least another ekiben

I feel cycling is the only thing I can do right. if I dont make it as a pro.. which obviously isnt going to happen, all i got is a hole of depression and nothingness. i have no education, no friends, got a job, quit a job, was pointless as fuck. >>938391

As a younger rider, the worst thing is when people say things like "well, if I had the time to ride like you I would be just as fast." I work a 9-5 and find time to ride where I can, just because you only ride on the weekends doesn't mean I don't deserve to steal ur KOMs punk

I don't have a job because I'm a failure lifeloser who should probably commit suicide, but most of the people who said that shit to me weren't doing 150+ miles on weekends (let alone the entire week) they had off, and even when they did ride, they weren't putting in the effort
