Just a knee-jerk hipster contrarian reaction. There were plenty of Bowie threads after his death and whatnot but considering that it was David Bowie and everyone knew about him that would be typical. I just fear what people are going to do about Vega's death though Suicide is a bit of a meme "babby's second art-band" and Frankie Teardrop shitposting is usually brought up. Mountains out of mole hills.

Because he was pursuing an art career long before music?
>>
>>66461121
From Wikipedia:

>Seeing The Stooges perform at the New York State Pavilion in August 1969 was an epiphany for Vega. In 1970, he met and befriended Martin Reverby. Together, the two began experimenting with music and formed the band Suicide along with guitarist Paul Liebgott. The group played twice at MUSEUM before moving on to the OK Harris Gallery. Calling himself "Nasty Cut", he used the terms "Punk Music" and "Punk Music Mass" in flyers to describe their music, which he adopted from an article by Lester Bangs. In 1971 the group dropped Paul Liebgott and added Mari Reverby on drums, though she didn't play in their live performances. With Bermowitz finally settling on Alan Suicide as a working name, they began to play music venues. Suicide went on to perform at the Mercer Arts Center, Max's Kansas City, CBGB and ultimately, achieve international recognition.

I would usually like to attribute the word "fan" with a hint of autism but I'm sure that would be "superfan".

Oh, and off-topic and slightly meta. Before Facebook had the "Like" button it was a "Become a fan" button. I would also like to point out that Facebook ripped off the Canv.as sticker system for their current system of reactions :^)

I have a few things I'm a superfan for too, but you can't have an obsession about everything.

it was surreal seeing those new reactions reacting to a Turkish video posted to Facebook, of people whose arms or heads had been reduced to burger from helicopter fire, and what was supposed to capture the revulsion to the sickening sight were....THESE (by the hundreds)

Take it with a grain of salt because there is clearly some forms of projection.

I'd like assume that if you were more leaning on the artistic side there would be some sort of narcissism. I've met plenty of musicians (I guess I could consider myself one but I never went up on stage) and many always have this self-satisfaction ("smug" would be too harsh of a word) of success in a manner like an award-winning athlete. It takes a lot of time and sacrifice to achieve your personal endeavors. Seeing The Stooges and Iggy Pop on stage, (shot in the dark) possibly cutting himself on-stage and bleeding for the audience, must've inspired him. Your art critics aren't going to see you bleed when you present a piece and your sports fans aren't going to see you run that extra mile everyday in pain to be the best.

I'm not familiar with his actual art pieces (I believe he was a sculptor) but maybe he just got by and got enough to eat and maybe wanted more? When you perform on stage you have the audience paying attention to you than you would having the audience looking at your art.

I've had plenty of epiphanies over the past decade but nothings ever come out of it. Maybe it's not an age thing but an unsatisfied ego. But many shows I've been to makes me inspired to make something of myself. But then you wake up and the morning comes.

I forgot how terrifying his screaming is in Frankie Teardrop

It's a animals violent yelp, it feels so intense

does anyone else hear similarities between "Frankie Teardrop" and Dylan's "The Ballad of Hollis Brown"? it's set in an urban environment, and it's a much more visceral emotional experience, but thematically they're similar

Was fortunate enough to see the Gories do their rendition of Ghostrider a few days ago, but all I could take away from their performance was how much more excited I was to see Suicide's original in October. RIP

Also some Alan Vega thread, doesn't matter which one, should be fucking sticked goddammit.

Dammit, I was just starting to really get into him recently and he just passes away out of nowhere, same thing happened to me with Bowie. It's a shame his death won't receive the same amount of attention as that of Prince or Bowie. Wish I could have seen him live.

RIP Alan
