just chatted with Fuuka and he informed me that, in fact, the Rebecca Black Tech archives are permanently down. I asked if it was a monetary thing because I felt bad for never donating despite using the archives endlessly, but he said it wasn't because of money and didn't elaborate further (making me think he just got tired of hosting it and maintining it). Anyway, let's pour one out for the best chan archive ever, and for maybe even giving you the links to some of your favorite albums.

This is actually quite good if it's true, rbt was great in 2012 when trip culture was booming and people were putting efforts into arguments but since 2014 it's served as nothing but a way to allow people latently interested in music to become "patrician" through mindlessly consuming. I hope he does a complete wipe of the 5 HDDs.

Oh and this probably happened either because of CeePee or the fact he's a lolicon and got caught out.

I saw Flying Lotus a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"
I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw FlyLo trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I've got 3 terabytes of 60's pre-ambient

800 gigs of live recordings of this local band called the fuckerfucks. They played only 2 shows before breaking up but I had 11 redundant recording rigs all recording flac which I then layered over one another for 25,000 kbps bitrate.

8 terabytes of the beatles. No not THOSE beatles, the new beatles. They haven't recorded an album yet and technically they're not really a band yet but they're indie-gospel-post-funk-punk style is going to be huge when you guys hear their stuff in about 5 years.

4 petabytes of the Ethiopian Free Jazz wave that occurred in 1973 in a town called Wenji Gefersi.

18 terabytes of sound check recordings from the mid 90's band LFO. They only scored a hit with "I like girls (who wear abercrombie and fitch)" but they were way ahead of their time.

That's just my C: drive. I have 41 drives.

Tyson once interviewed me for Beat. It was an experience.

We agreed to meet at a cafe at 8am for breakfast. He arrived at 9:10, clearly drunk. When the waitress asked what he would have, he replied bottled water and gin. She told him they didn't serve alcohol and he was taken aback. Not angry, but clearly upset, like he hadn't prepared for this. He drank his water in silence. No mention of my music.

He then told me we had to go to a bottle shop, and get some gin. I figured there was no way I was missing this, and followed him to a local BWS, which hadn't opened yet, but did soon, so we waited. He made a call to someone, maybe a relative, and was complaining about the lack of gin in the cafe. Still no mention of my music. Eventually 3 girls, maybe 16 years old, came over and asked if he was Tyson Wray, and then took photos. He asked them if they liked Yacht Club DJs, and then mocked them when they replied yes.

When the bottle shop opened, the guy knew him by name. Tyson selected a bottle of Bombay Sapphire, and started necking it there and then. He asked if I wanted anything, but being barely 10am, I declined. He told me his tram stop was down the road, so we headed down there.

We were waiting for his tram. I had figured no interview was happening, but I felt I should see him onto the tram. There was this gross busker there though, and tyson told him he would give him $50 if he played wonderwall. The second the dude started playing, tyson ripped the guitar out of his hands and jumped on it, destroying it. The dude got riled up, but ran off screaming about finding a cop.

Tyson turned to me, and said 'fuck guitars, hey', got on his Tram, and left. My band got a great writeup in Beat a fortnight later, not a word was true.

I like the guy.

It's strange how much I took Fuuka's efforts for granted now that I know the archive is actually gone for good. Soulseek is way too unreliable for steady bitrates in their uploads and What.CD requires far too much effort all for the sheer sake of downloading some music. With the rumours of RuTracker going down in the near future, these are actually really dire times.
>>
>>66418713

How is that even possible?

I live in a third world country and soulseek works fine.
>>
Let me preface this by saying that I've been a memer since they first appeared on 4chan circa 2006 (ages ago in internet time). I remember refreshing /b/ all afternoon with the hope that someone would make a new meme. I was a memer back when Advice Dog was the only one and I still upvote every Advice Dog meme I see becasue of the fond rush of nostalgia it brings me. Nowadays, there are many thousand on quickmeme and other meme websites. I was a memer back before memegenerator was created (the first meme website) and I had to make them with MS Powerpoint or Paint. Speaking of meme websites, I was one of the first submitters to memebase.com and still have one of the top accounts there despite having migrated to reddit nearly 2 years ago. It was on 4chan and memebase where I cut my teeth creating memes, way before I had a reddit account and way before /r/adviceanimals was created in late 2010. Back before I could get any sort of points or even username recognition, I was creating memes as a clever and easily digestible way to reflect on society, relate some story to my audience, or just be funny. Do you remember rich raven? No? I do. You probably don't remember depression dog, crazy girlfriend praying mantis, introspective pug, or friendzone Johnny either. I remember all of them. So please, respect my judgement regarding the direction of the subreddit and the integrity of posts I have held dear to my heart for nearly 7 years but you have no strong feelings for. Thanks

Have I told you about how nerds destroy the world?
Take conspicuous consumption as a lifestyle choice and combine it with early hardware adoption, and you have great swaths of gadgetry out of stock because of stock because they're incrementally better than the last model.
Then there are landfills full of functioning electronics.
Wasted time, resources, money, etc.
The best part is that these things were never necessary, it has never mattered how thin a computer is,
There's a special kind of nerd though.
Who thinks computers will overtake mankind in thirty years, changing humanity in ways incomprehensible to us now, ignoring the third of the world without electricity.
So the singularity is the nerd way of saying "In the future, being rich and white will be even more more awesome."
It's all flying car bullshit: surely the world will conform to our speculative fiction, surely we're the ones who will get to live in the future.
It gives spiritual significance to technology developed primarily for entertainment or warfare, and gives nerds something to obsess over.
That isn't the crushing vacuousness of their lives.
It doesn't matter what you obsess over.
Nerds just gotta obsess about something so you can research alternative energy, or, more likely, beat a video game very quickly, or draw a cartoon.
It's okay though, there are people on the internet that will tell you you're doing a great job, and since people say you're doing great it's gotta be just as good as other things people say are great, right?
Nerds do not redefine adulthood, they waste it.

Regardless of whether you use Soulseek more or What.CD more, the loss of a service like the /mu/ archive is a huge one in regards to how easy it made finding albums on a surface level. Sharethreads used to be utter trash not too long ago when they were filled with links to albums already circulating on an almost-public level in bitrates lacking, but lately they had seemed to turn around this year. For the archive to have died out the way it did is really fucking unfortunate, but I feel for Fuuka and I thank them for their efforts. Fuuka didn't need to put forth the time and energy to keeping servers alive and the archive as tidy as it was, but they did anyway, and for quite a while too. Hopefully someone picks up the helm and picks it up soon, because it would be really tragic for all the stuff posted in the summertime (what is usually when this site gets the most traffic) to become lost in the transfer of servers and sites.

Thank you, Fuuka.

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as “the greatest or most significant or most influential” rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

How the fuck is everyone believing OP with literally no proof at all? How is this different than one of those threads people make claiming to work for some /mu/core artist and have details on their new album and then every time, without fail, it turns out to be fake?

When other 4chan archives have died permanently, the host always puts a message on the page about it. It wouldn't just show the normal downtime page. Christ /mu/ is retarded.

I shared a lot of albums over time, its a real shame. As much as soulseek had more on offer, there was something kinda nice about sharethreads (when they were actually good), in the sense that someone would share something that was personally appealing to them, it had a really nice communitarian vibe to it.

Anyways, I still have a lot of stuff in my mega (including releases not on slsk) so happy to share what I've got.
>>
>>66419766
In fact, I handed over server control a few months into the project, for both money and time constraints. The initial Mutracker crash was because I installed something incorrectly but I later fixed it. I've been running Tapmusic for the past 7 years with little issue as well.

Piracy leads to a less centralized music economy where the average Joe has more incentive to learn how to create music and ultimately leads to a more thriving music industry through greater distribution.

Ah yes, Google. I love spending 5 minutes to find a bad transcode hosted on Uploaded.net that takes several minutes to download. My favorite!

>>66419819
>>66419824
that's my point. there's no incentive at all to pay up $10 a month for Spotify when I can just download everything for free. Both Spotify and piracy don't support the artists.
>>
>>66419853
*regardless of who was manning
>>
I'm more upset about all those copypastas than I am about sharethreads.
>>
>>66419819
Well this isn't true necessarily.

You should say that piracy does not support the artist monetarily directly. However it does gain an artist recognition; especially in the case of Sixto Rodriguez whose music only traveled outside the US, BECAUSE, of piracy/bootlegging.

Faggot.
>>
>>66419554
>>66419627
My thoughts exactly really, some random OP being a faggot
>>
>>66419845
Basically, with piracy more people end up listening to a wider variety of music because they can share it freely. This allows for joe from down the street to get more attention on his release, and encourages more people in general to make music. This creates a demand for lessons, and an incentive for self education. Leading to more music being created, more ideas being spread, and ultimately more profits for people at large. Through donations, physical copy sales, lessons, studio time, gigs, instrument sales, and instrument maintenance.
>>
>>66419845
>>66419877
i meant specifically monetarily this isnt some anti piracy bullshit message im just saying that "not supporting the artist" isnt a valid reason for piracy over spotify

also who the fuck ends a high horse post with "Faggot."

Not their fault if people enable their behavior by spoonfeeding them.
There's a board dedicated to spoonfeeding now and we still have ~20 "guiz more liek dis cuz im to stupid to find music on my own" threads up at any given time.
