Terry Callier - What Color Is Love (1972)
>soul, chicago soul
I really, /really/, like pointing out when albums have quality dips from side to side, and this is no exception. The a-side here is absolutely wonderful, it's like mixture of Nick Drake and soul music and it's fucking incredible, "Dancing Girl" and "You Goin' Miss Your Candyman" in particular. The b-side is certainly servicable soul music, but it can't even touch the revelation of the a-side. Still, the whole album is enjoyable, Callier's voice is incredible and I love the arrangements.
3.0+
Teengenerate - Get Action! (1994)
>punk rock, garage punk
Just fun music. I've always had a thing for garage punk, and this is fast and scuzzy garage punk taken to a logical conclusion. Too lo-fi for it's own good, however, they have some honestly great melodies and driving rhythms but the production quality is just /too/ poor, and I rarely say that about lo-fi records. That doesn't detract /too/ much from it though.

My parents listen to typical parentcore, so basically a bunch of dadrock bands and shit like Adele and Mumford & Sons, very bland taste. My sister doesn't perform much better, she listens to a bunch of post-2000 pop artists (usually the calmer stuff though, no gaudy modern dance-pop afaik), it's decent but almost never anything special.

I realize you're probably kidding, but removing the idea that you need to have a perfect curve makes rating music so much more enjoyable.
Why would I try to have en equally bad album for every good album? It doesn't make sense to me.
A perfect rym curve to me says you're either
a) bad at choosing music to listen to
b) choosing music randomly
c) a tryhard that forces a perfect curve to look patrician so you can bully people that don't
d) a combination of the above
"oh shit that album was a 4! Better seek out a 2 now to balance the scales less I look like a pleb!"

His favorites are mostly dadrock, but he's familiar with a lot of post-punk, industrial, no wave, etc. because he worked at some underground record store until record stores went mostly extinct. Opus Avantra - introspezione
>>66402891
I mean 1.5 is a good bit below average.
I like it a bit more than rug but im going to thrust my opinions in here anyway cause why not
I feel as a lot of the melodies aren´t nearly as moving as people make them out to be, a lot of the time they feel generic. Few of the songs feel like they go nowhere and get same-y fast, it all feels like you took the slow parts of lucy in the sky, slowed them more and made an album out of it. It´s a nice concept but gets boring I find.
Also knowing icelandic really hinders the experience, let´s just say I´m really glad they later just started singing gibberish, its all horrible cliches on this one.
I don´t get the high opinion about it around here, feels like this would be the first place to pan it.

I disagree pretty strongly. Did your ratings change at all once you got more familiar with an artist/genre or even music in general?
If your favourite album has ever changed, that signifies a shift based on context.
My opinion on jazz when I first got into it was pretty laughable, as expected, and I imagine my favourite albums now will garner a chuckle from 25yo me.

Khamis El Fino Ali - Music for the Classical Oud
This is the first Arabic trad album I've ever listened to. I'd say it's a good start for me. I liked this quite a bit.
While I don't think I like this as much as other trad like Japanese or Chinese trad, this was still really neat. The oud is a nice instrument and Ali certainly knows how to play it well. There's some very good vigorous playing from the man here and I really enjoyed it. As for the music he played, it was interesting stuff. I mean trad music is usually interesting to me I guess due to its exotic use of various musical elements. The exotic Arabic melodies and rhythms here were really good. Sometimes it they would sound sort of samey to me but it really didn't bother me that much. Fine stuff.
I wouldn't call this album a favorite but it was some splendid stuff. Maybe it'll become a favorite of mine in the future. I can definitely see that happening sometime.
To sum things up:
Lol foreign. 3.5/5.
>L in the Netflix live action Death Note adaption is a black dude

>>66403694
but ratings can change from tons of reasons, not only getting familiar with the genre
I agree its wise to hold off ratings when listening to a genre youre completely unfamilar with but otherwise you can´t ever halt the influence listening to more music has on your past opinions nor will it stop after a set mark.
An opinion p much by human nature is not a concrete thing and imo one should just go with rating something on however one feels about it at the time, as long as he has proper reasoning behind it of course.

i should hear The Glowing Man and Teens of Denial sometime. eventually.
>>66404370
It reminds me of The whole Future Funk thing of Saint Pepsi and all, the Hip hop tracks were fun and overall it's a really nice and enjoyable dance album. I never gave SILY a proper listen other than the S/t song so i can't compare them but i don't get the hate. A solid 7
Oh and i like Frankie Sinatra

There's no such thing as too much twee ;^)
>that Girls Generation song is surprisingly aight btw.
I love it a lot desu. I even wrote a """review""" for it recently on RYM. It's the second thing I've ever reviewd and I don't know if I should feel good or bad about that. I'm not even sure why I did it. I was just kinda compelled to do it I guess.
Wew I've been making too much mistakes in my posts tonight. I guess I should go to sleep and try to fix my sleeping schedule. Good night, nerds!

>i should hear The Glowing Man and Teens of Denial sometime. eventually.
TGM was a huge disappointment for me. Has some neat moments and all, but the first 30 minutes or so are really boring. And the whole record has nothing extremely outstanding. Gira hyped that way too much.
Teens of Denial however is absolutely fantastic, even if you weren't a huge fan of his previous albums, I think you still should give it a chance, fantastic songwriting, many many excellent ideas, just great overall
>>66404189
Is Girls Generation good?
>>66404464
dude, get on that shit /right now/, SILY is pretty essential
>>66404468
that review is what prompted me to listen to it lel. the review's a bit cluttered but i agree with most of the sentiments you express in it.
>>66404522
Well Gee is my favorite Kpop song cause of my basic taste. The rest of the Gee EP is pretty meh but I absolutely adore the song.
>>66404545
Oh damn. Yeah I guess the review is cluttered. My reviewing """skills""" are not too strong and it was 3:00 AM so that adds to the problem. Glad you agree with a lot of my thoughts on it though. Anyway it's 4:13 AM and I should go to bed before I decide to write another """review""" I might regret :^)
>>66404522
yeah, that's the general opinion i've been hearing about TGM. I wasn't even that fond of The Seer so I'm kinda scared of checking it out. I really wanted them to go out with a bang.
Guess I'm checking out ToD tomorrow, it better not disappoint.

Why did you pan Terminus? Do you enjoy being wrong? Do you take pleasure in being braindead lowlife scum?
Also, I don't even love whining anymore these days, I just found your extremely strong dislike for it rather baffling. Why the hostile reaction? Did you feel attacked because I asked for elaboration? Are you this much of an insecure diaper-wearing basement dweller?

if you want more like LC then Another setting is good, but doesn't really add anything and doesn't hit all the vibes with me.

Hey, guys
Got in a car crash a week ago and am no longer able to leave the house till I've "healed." I've also been fired from my job, and my friends have left me.
This gives me ample free time
so.....
How do i get involved with this /daily/ thing?

anyway, you can stop talking to me now

Very limited in features and gameplay. I had fun with it for a few days, but I'd be surprised if it lasted the month. I'm tempted to go long on $NTDOY though, because I think with Pokemon Go and the release of the mini NES, Nintendo is finally getting with the program of capitalizing on childhood nostalgia, which Disney has made uncounted billions from. This should hopefully prove that Nintendo is finally utilizing the massive inherent value of all its properties.
