Let's have a thread to respect the works and contributions of Phil and Geneviève.
Discuss albums, performances, artwork, written works, etc.
Mount Eerie Preservation Society:

Excellent site that has a lot of Phil bootlegs and early cassette tapes. I've just been listening to his earliest release as The Microphones (Microphone). It has some great tracks that not probably many people would have heard. I like the track "Ready To Attack", the later part of the song sounds very Beck inspired.

I just listened to that album too, didn't realise Genevieve sung on it. I know he has worked with different choirs and singers on his songs, but I haven't really looked into who features on each song. Thanks!
I've never listened to anything by Phil/microphones. Should I just start with the glow pt 2?

Yep, then check out Mount Eerie by The Microphones.

I think the Glow pt 2 is a great introduction, has various styles of Phil, the heaviness (Map, Samurai Sword) and the delicate (Headless Horseman, Felt Your Shape).
After listening to The Glow Pt 2 I just listened to everything else a hundred times and have found something to love about every album.

np! as far as i know, genevieve played a lot on no flashlight
Two really great people, great artists.
Couple of things I've just discovered:
O Paon live performance, Max Power linked it in his lovely memoriam on Tiny Mix Tapes

This is a radio show in which Phil reads Egil's Saga. It was released on CD, but I think it's out of print.

so i should just skip over the glow pt 1 then?

The Glow is a song
>>66392911
The Glow Pt 1 is actually the song "The Glow" on It Was Hot, We Stayed In The Water. One of my favourite songs too, it's beautiful. I dunno whether that album is a good intro (it's kinda hard to recommend stuff to a first listener being a huge fan of every album), but I definitely would recommend going back to it if you enjoyed The Glow Pt. 2.
>>66392911
i listened to it was hot, we stayed in the water first because the "pt. 2" made me feel like i needed to hear the first part first, and it turned me off a bit. definitely do this: >>66392778

this is rad, thank you so much
I've listened to O Paon and Woelv, but I have not seen much of Genevieve's art. Here's some interviews I just found that feature her comics.

And on the topic of artwork, I love the origins of The Glow Pt. 2's album artwork. It comes from an old dutch cook book

What happened is just so sad, I can't handle it
