eh they're still really great/classic records, just in a different way. i agree that it's a travesty we only got the two full-lineup albums though. wish they could have made more music in general.

it's great
This album would be perfect, IF the B-side "Positively 4th Street" had been included rather than "Like a Rolling Stone." LARS is a fucking abomination of a song and deserves its own special circle in hell. Yet every other song on H61R is great.

I saw Deafheaven in Cambridge a bit less than a year after this came out. Tried to drag my friend out with me and almost succeeded until he bailed last minute and left me with two tickets to the sold out show. I wanted to get inside and didn't feel like wasting time bargaining so I figured I'd just give it to anyone looking for one. Went up to a large group of people all dressed in black (I was wearing a baby blue shirt for some autistic reason) and asked if they knew anyone who could use a free ticket. The shortest of them immediately burst into hysterical laughter
>DO WE KNOW ANYONE WHO NEEDS A FREE TICKET????HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAGAGAGWABLABAB WHAT????
>ugh yeah I just have this extra ticket and trying to put it to use
>HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAGGAGAGAGBAGABAB WHAT???? A FREE TICKET???? WHAT?? HAHAHAHA
I didn't really know what to say and sort of just stared his blankly. Another kid in the group finally mentioned "Jake" but was reminded by the female in the group that he was "stuck in Needham". Thanks man, I think we're good.
As I walked to the nearest garbage can to throw the ticket out I heard the guy again laughing just as loudly, "KNOW ANYONE WHO NEEDS A FREE TICKET????!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!"
I still don't get it.
Only reminded of this tonight when I put this on
Now this, the cover convinced me

How can someone unironically hate Like a Rolling Stone and think the rest of the album is perfect? There's so many beautiful components, its one of the more intricate songs on the album. I'm pretty sure people just hate it because its popular desu

Man, that's the one album I can never get! Every little note sounds generic and predictable to my ears. I'm not hating on it, nor baiting. Every couple of years, I give it a listen, trying to understand why it's so highly regarded, and never feel like I got the slightest reward.
>>66399634
not him but
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwGwkfAOYpU
>>66400251
I don't really get the massive hype around the album but I think the reason you might find it formulaic and predicable is because of the huge impact it had on post rock, and how much it influenced future bands. It sounds generic because it is genre defining.
>>66400358
the same thing that happened to radiohead.
>>66400358
Don't know... You might be right, but actually I've listened to/know much more rock from late 80s and early 90s than stuff from after 2000, so I guess I can pretty much listen to it in chronological context. I can see something original in arrangement, and one or two ideas, but that's about it.

For me it's more about the crushing atmosphere the album creates than any particular arrangement of notes or anything like that. I don't think it really clicked with me until I listened to it in bed, in the dark with a bottle of wine - hopefully you'll find the right moment when it will click for you because it's a truly fantastic album.
no regrets all versions of this song are eurotrance masterpieces

Thanks for the tips! I'll try to listen to it searching for the qualities you mention. I like to at least understand why a lot of people love an album (unless it's just something clearly mediatic), even if it doesn't exactly fit my own taste.
