I don't know what it is but rap just doesn't feel new to me anymore, this probably has to do with the fact that it hasn't been a new thing for like 20 years.
the fact that I have been listening to it since my dad bought College Dropout the week it came out probably also plays a role. but it just feels as direction less to me as alternative "rock" and "folk"
quite frankly vintage music sounds more fresh to me than hip hop and electronic music does.
What ya think anoons?
>>

Rap is the most human genre because it's based almost entirely in language and lyricism. Everyone can understand a good rap song.

There are too many white rappers coming out. Soon successful white rappers will out number black ones and black people will invent a new type of music.

Rap music is based on stealing real music that is actually good. It's either a ripoff of a song that is way superior or it's some simple as fuck beat that has no creativity or variation. And why are the MCs the one that are the face of the music they rap on? The people actually producing the tracks should be the ones getting the credit which is another reason the genre is so lame.

And it don't even matter if your veins are punctured
All the crackheads, the critics, the cities
And all my heroes at the methodone clinics

All you bastards at the i.r.s.
For the crooked cops and the cluttered desks
For the shots of jack and the caps of meth
Half pints of love and a fifth of stress

All the hookers that are tricking out in hollywood
And for my hoods of the world misunderstood
I said it's all good and it's all in fun
Now get in the pit and try to love someone!

All the gangs gettin' money and the heads they bang - bang
Wild mustangs

All my homies in the county in cell block six
The grits when there ain't enough eggs to cook

It's stagnated, what can you even rap about other than your life story, guns, money and bitches? Why isn't freestyle rap in the mainstream, it's the best way to show skill, flow and forces them to push themselves. The genre would be more fresh if they recorded live albums with no lyrics.
>>
>>66261784
>>vocal effects and flows
>don't matter
straight delusional

first of all vocal effects make all the difference, Rodeo album is a pretty good example

second, kids only care about beat and flow nowadays not lyrics, so yes they do matter, alot

basically you can't admit hip-hop has changed and even when confronted with literal changes you just go "oh but not those ones i dont care about those" well guess what, most people now do so fuck off

>>
>>66261888
and then theres Chief keef, young thug, shit like that, how can you possibly listen to that and say it isnt different from what was being made a few years before

people tend to cling onto weird unfactual bullshit statements to justify to themselves why they grew out of or stopped liking a certain thing, and they convince themselves of those things even when presented with evidence that proves they're wrong

TL;DR hip-hop is constantly changing every 5-10 years and if you dont recognize that youre not actually LISTENING
>>
>>66261921
so music primarily made in computers that's been getting more and more advanced in every way every decade except lyricism is comparable to indie radiohead clones? yea no fuck off, your mental gymnastics are on a whole different level

OP is asking if rap is on its way out in general, not if its on its way out among internet autists who spend unholy amounts of their free time listening to and talking about music. Would you expect a random guy off the street to recognize the difference between crust, powerviolence, grind, death metal, etc? Most people don't care too much about these "constant changes"
>>
I just found out YG is opening for G-Eazy on tour.

If that's not a sign of the end of days I don't know what it.
>>
>>66262105

G-Eazy, Childish Gambino etc are what rap will look like in five years. YG, Jay Z, Lil Wayne etc are going to have to cannibalize their own signed talent in order to stay afloat within a much smaller niche, and I don't know if they can do it.
>>
>>66262073
