I can see how someone might think this about there's a riot going on, but I really disagree. Thinking back I only really remember some instrumental bits and It's a family affair, but the instrumentals I remember were awesome. I don't think people like this get what funk albums like that are about. I think the marketing might have raised expectations in the wrong way for them, when I really just see music like that as about having a good time, lifting spirits and reflecting about life's woes. Like dub music. It's almost like electronic where people mostly just care about groove.
I actually don't like the avalanches much tho I haven't heard the new one. Silly seems to me like generic string disco beats that are revered for their sampling gimmick and approximately 4 vocal samples that are memorable. Cowboy psychiatrist and silly would have made a killer single or an ep with some other ones. But as an album it's a chore to listen to.

I think the idea of a child who reviews music is an interesting one, if the child was doing it with a genuine interest and acting alone writing thoughtful impressions removed from cultural/historical ideas of albums, you could have almost 'outsider' music reviews that might be more objective than regular ones. If they started young it would be cool to see them grow through it, but it would inevitable be ruined by their own gradually learning historical information and other peoples opinions.
Marcel would be more interesting if he was like that, but he's not. His shit is all fucked up by being online and reading all the history. Now he ends up trying to use that basic knowledge as a means to legitimize himself, which to a degree it does considering how many people online wouldn't realize something like the cover reference.

I work in music journalism at a very popular site/publication. There were only a few advanced copies given out and I know who got them. I emailed Modular/Astralwerks to get a copy and they both told me I couldn't get one and told me who got them. It was some big names in the US and the UK and a bunch in Australia. Not Marcel, though. So, yes, he must have reviewed it after listening to the leak.
