Instrumental band demo, I was the lead guitar player(and wrote all the material). Stopped with the group because our singer had a unacceptably heavy dutch accent and they wanted to fuck around to much.

Pretty basic funky soul stuff with a improvised solo near the end that imho starts out good but then gets a bit wonky.

Your singing is pretty flat alot of the times and instrumentally it sounds a bit cluttered with ideas. Production wise it sounds very decent though.

Also you shouldnt try and preemptivaly soften people's criticism by telling them you did not study music formally. it either is good or it is not. And there's al lot of stuff in your music people will not respond to kindly. The tempo is pretty fast voor the vibe you are trying to create and you are using a lot of "happy" major chords on keys while the other stuff is going towords a more jagged serious vibe and it is kind of clashing.

The strobe-like video and the white noise is kinda off putting to me personaly and it sounds a bit like vampires would listen to in the Blade-movies. But i can tell you have some good ideas about sound, vibe and actual song structure, personally i would emphasize that more and not "attack" the listeren as much with dissonance.

just my two cents

I really like your sound, lyrics and vocal melodies.

But the vocals lack some confidence/power and some of the instrumental parts sound just a tad to simplistic to really sell it.
>>
>>66075316
I don't know about you, but personally it seems pretty ridiculous to compare you're mediocre bandcamp band to loveless.
>>
>>66075316

I do know what i'm talking about because i gave a subjective opinion about a subjective art form.

I dont have to be a My bloody Valentine fan to give my opinion about different music that is in the same genre of general sound. And if you have this much trouble handeling negative feedback then i would advise you to quit music because you're gonna have a bad time...

It reminds me alot of "a pillow of winds" by Pink floyd(not a bad thing really), but the percussive stuff don't really add much in their current form and in some parts you seem to be slightly fluctuating the tempo and it doenst sound deliberate.
>>
>>66075490
Funny, I had someone compare it to Goodbye Blue Sky by Floyd as well. I guess they're still lingering in my subconscious from high school...

And yeah, the percussion is definitely a bit off beat in parts. Been meaning to go back and fix it if not just remove it all together. Anyways, thanks for the feedback!

This is just my opinion and i'm not a huge fan of this type of music. My opinion is free so it is worth what you deem it, but there does not seem to be a song in this. It's got lyrics, on-keys vocal, some cool tape-delay sounds and ideas. It even sounds very professional but there is not enough cohesion in it to make it work. I'm not saying it should be more like abba, but even sigur ros and bands like Master Musicians of Bukakke have a sort of innate red through line or logical structure which this song does not.

>>66073898
Tasty beat. Very full sounding production. I particularly enjoyed the rhythm changes towards the end. I wasn't getting very much development through the middle but since it's meant for the dance floor that's kind of a moot point.

>>66073905
Oh shit! Really digging this. What's the ratio of samples to original instrumentation? Only complaint is that build at the end seemed a little anticlimactic. Curious how this sounds in the album context.

>>66073998
This is really pretty. You have a very comfy voice. Would like to hear some drums rippin up the kit under that middle section. I'mma check out that mega you posted once I'm home from work.

>>66073957
That first line was really clever. Some good bars with solid word play. The flow is a little off in a couple spots but it isn't too noticeable.

>>66074080
Not your best work, Noah. Sorry.

>>66074088
The guitars are only in the left speaker, and the drums could be a bit busier, maybe some fills like at the very end, during that last section, but you've got a really good idea. Keep working at it, fammajamma.

>>66074102
I think you might have a bit to much bass on the guitar's eq. Nice song, very sad and the artwork is very fitting.

>>66074136
I'm curious what you'll do with it. I see potential. The guitar line kinda drones on a little too much but if you add more instrumentation ot could be fine.

>>66074161
Really pretty compositions. Those unfinished tracks sound very promising. Are you interested in physical instrumentation of are you going to stick with the midi aesthetic?

>>66074284
That rapid panning is fucking with me in the best way. Not sure how I feel about the xylophone, but that's really my only complaint.
Do you have a band camp or sound cloud you could link me?

It's psychedelic jam music so i'm not going to make a point about structure. But even in jam-music there has to be a sort of dynamic to keep the listener interested. Whether that means: loud to soft, gentle to aggressive, angular to ethereal, fast to slow etc. is up to you to decide. At the moment it sound like a bunch of disconnected solo's that do not try to engage the listener,

I think the most important question a musician should ask themselves is: would i want to listen to this?
>>
>>66075654
Thanks for taking the time to listen I appreciate it. As for the structure of the song I tried making it linear and evolving. I feel it makes more sense in the context of the album. I don't understand what you mean by structure because this song has 3 parts. I assume you mean having a chorus or a musical idea that is referenced again in the piece. If you're asking me where's the chorus that would be the point of the song.
>>
>>66075101
>https://clyp.it/yakojqc5

I'm a big fan of funky synths so i digged those parts, i think the more abrasive high pitched rythmic stuff can grow to annoy people pretty fast though. And for me personally the tempo is a bit to fast to really enjoy it, but it is not bad imho.

Oh, that mega link I replied to wasn't by me. That was an album by the notorious memer Aaron Ellis.

>>
>>66075825

My point about the structure is more that, to me( again, i'm just one dude) the 3 parts do not add up logically. There is lot's of music that does not follow standardized ideas about music that does work. It has three parts but to me they do not seem to complement eachother, making it sound a bit schizophrenic. Which some people may say they find appealing, but in my opinion most of those people are trying to be edgy or trying to propagate that they have some sort of evolved taste in the arts.

Good sound and i like the ideas, I don't know if you played the instruments youself, sampled stuff or it was made in an open jam. But the first half it does sound like every instrument is busy doing its own thing. I like to jam with no "rules" myself but when nobodys playing off of eachother or doing their own thing the end result usually ends u being very meandering. But hey, thats just my opinion.
>>
>>66075918
well i happen to be schizophrenic lol. but fair enough I see you point. It's a matter of taste. Different emotional states and life experiences make different things pleasing or logical to us. I don't understand how a piece of art can have a logical anything as it's primarily an emotional experience. This convo actually gave me an idea so thank you! I am going to set out to make the most illogical piece of music I can. I'm thinking going from harsh noise to baroque pop chorus to a piano sonata ending it off with a doo wop outro

I agree with you that is a matter of taste influenced bij an individuals life and that music is just a emotional reaction. I looked at it from a perspective of commercial acceptance though and unless you taste are pretty close to the norm(Like mine if i'm honest) than it is hard to expect people to like you music to an extent from which you will make real money from it. If that is not a motive you hve with you music then more power to you.

I accept I'm never going to be the next katy perry but my hopes are there are people out there respecting music as an artform and if i distinguish myself enough and prove myself to be talented giving significant contributions to the craft then people will support me. Or most likely have a dishwashing/ janitorial position for the rest of my life. But it's too late to turn back now as I've already accepted the risk and sacrifice anything i feel is in the way of becoming the artist i want to be. My life is an extension of my music. who knows, we'll see but I promise to keep going on mu if I ever be a hotshot

>>66074776
Listened to Love2each. You've got a solid unserstanding of flow and the song seemed the perfect length for the amount of ideas used. Maybe it could have been more dynamic, or have a bit more melody than that main vocal sample.

>>66075029
Not sure why I was surprised it was metal. If you got the lead guitar closer and the drums further away you'd be pretty set for a raw demo. This is really heavy, you should get something really sick out of it.

>>66075101
This could bang in the whip. Keep us posted because I'm pretty hyped for that drop.

Very well written. You've got a good sound. The vocals seem a little weak and the synth over the top feels a tad out of place. Good stuff over all.

>>66075290
The vocalist could use some work and the production isn't too clear on the rhythm guitar and bass. Sing isn't bad though and has some good solos. Would be fun sing to play.

>>66075628

Just when I was getting board that second guitar came in amd saved the track. I'd suggest bringing it in before the second verse and then having it sort of sprinkled about under the vocals. Fade outs are always disappointing. Still enjoyed it, keep it up.

>>66076114
First track is a nice song. Better recordinf quality could do a lot for it. Your vocals could use a little work but you put a lot of energy and passion into them that gives it charm. I enjoy the drum groove you posted. The last link is very fun. I think it could translate over to live instrumentation very well, just needs a less abrupt ending.

>>66076139
Not gonna lie, I was ready to cringe when I saw the cello, but you did an excellent job making it fit with the piece. The sing seemed a little un focused but that didn't really affect the enjoyment of it. I'm really triggered they had you play outside when it's cold enough to need a winter coat.

I feel the drums don't pack enough punch maybe raise the mid to upper mid or make them a bit louder. well actually what i would do is add a more defined kick or snare. I'd also add a melodic aspect to it or try to compose with that female voice sample like hook it up to the piano roll get some jazz chords in that bitch. With time stretching, pitching, eqing, you can make anything sound like anything pretty much. throw in some sax cant go wrong with sax. I'd like to see the video that'd be really cool. It's kinda reminiscent of hot sugar and his associative music.
>>
>>66074120
pretty cool, could be nice to accompany a video, the way it is just now, a bit tuneless for me, but it's not boring because you use a variety of different sounds which keep the listener busy

Thanks, I still have all of the footage I used to make this and I've been thinking of going back and making more. I'll probably lay down some 808/909's(possibly 707's if I wanna get really trashy) under the found percussion so I don't have to count frames to find the beat again.

>>66077093
Thanks buddy. I tried using bus and motorcycle sounds for the melody but it's not that clear since most of it was room tone.

If the thread is still up later and I can find the video I might post a mega or something so those curious could download it since I can't post it for because of the copyrighted material

different anon here...

the other guy kind of has a point. for repetetive music to be enjoyable there has to be a real vibe, which this is lacking. check out some Loop Finding Jazz Records, its really similar to what you claim to be, but done in a very organic and satisfying way. Also Spacemen 3 were masters of repetitive music.
>>
>>66082531
if you're just trying to insult me, you could do much better than resorting to crude imagery. i enjoy making it, and i enjoy listening to it. i shared it here hoping others might like it, not knowing that there would be people like you who just want to tear it down. im actually proud of the music i make, and ive shared it with people who said they liked it too. you don't have to like it. i know most people probably wont, and thats fine by me. but let me do my thing and you can do yours.

i can handle constructive criticism, but nobody should be expected to "handle" this:

>66082011 here

>>
>>66082737
>>66082704
nah man if you could handle criticism you would be chill, sorry but its true

also, let me try to rephrase "enjoyable". I mean that the production has to be rich enough to be interesting and enveloping. otherwise there's nothing to grab on to. like seriously spend more time listening to experimental music, and you'll hopefully get an idea of where you could progress.... just because something is challenging to listen to, that doesn't suddenly make it art
>>
>>66082673
Thanks. Yeah, that bothers me. I made that in one recording of me playing keys, then added the strings over the track. So in a way that whole song is just me improvising.
>>
>>66082645
first of all if you are referring to the fart paintings as crude imagery you are just missing the point. Its a real thing. It really happens. Painters that take their time and make wonderful art are real as well. The only the crude about that is the stark contrast. Its not much different in this situation imo.
second, if you were trying to build a fanbase you should just stick to your mom and your friends that all, im sure, tell you how good you are at looping trash samples.
if you scroll up to OP it clearly says " post a sample of it here; we will judge/criticize/compliment you for your work"
Not trying to insult you personally. Im more-so hoping you'll get off this trainwreck of a "genre" and make actual music or go find some other thing you like to do in life and flourish. This shit isnt going anywhere. Like an auger to my eardrums.

im not
>hoping you'll get off this trainwreck of a "genre" and make actual music or go find some other thing you like to do in life and flourish. This shit isnt going anywhere. Like an auger to my eardrums.
who are you to decide what is and is not "actual music"? music is just organized sound. if you don't like it, that's fine. but to call it not "actual music" is disinginuous to the concept of music as an artform.
>if you scroll up to OP it clearly says " post a sample of it here; we will judge/criticize/compliment you for your work"
i honestly don't know why you threw this in.
okay, now im curious. you think it's just "looping trash samples". what songs did you listen to? seriously, because i think you're just speaking out of your ass right now. yes, looping is a cornerstone of my music, but i don't just loop it arbitrarily with no development. which ones are you referring to?

I'm 30 and used to be in a jam band with friends as drummer and keyboardist from my youth up until early 20s. As of now i've been making music on my own for a couple years, i guess it's a synth throwback mashup of all kinds of styles.

Enjoy if you will desu

I really love this! Pretty neat idea to have an instrument like the banjo as a centerpiece of a dream pop song. I will DM you if that banjo offer is still on ? I'm trying to record some Americana material if you are familiar with that...

i'm going to ask a favor of you, seeing as you're so heavily invested in my music.
go back and read that message. just go back and read it. that level is anger is absolutely unnatural, and i believe there are other forces at play besides you just disliking my music. before, i just thought you were being a little harsh, but now i see its much worse than that. i dont know what it is. maybe you're insecure about your own music? maybe you're having a bad day?
>dude, I could make an identical 'album' of 'music' in less than 20 minutes.
you talk about delivering "honesty" but that's little more than hyperbole.
calling it "effortless dogshit" is not "honesty", it's an opinion. you can say you don't like it, but you can't say it took no effort, because that is simply not true.
>its garbage if I tell you it is or not.
im sensing some superiority complex here.
also, i gave you your chance to prove you're not just speaking out of your ass and you ignored it. ill repeat it. what songs are you referring to? there's no way you listened to all of them if you think it's all just looping arbitrarily. seriously, rather than writing "it's dogshit" or "it's effortless", how about providing any substantial criticism about a particular track? or do you mean to tell me that you listened to a 30-second segment and proceeded to make conclusions about the entire album? surely that's not it. right?

More dark and creepy than most of the stuff I've made before. Tell me what you think.

Thanks. I wanted the tempo to be a little faster because Jeff also tends to be playing it a little faster live, which I prefer.
I used a singe SM57 with a Yamaha mixer in my bedroom.
I hesitated on adding electric guitars and backing vocals (to clean up marks my inability to sing and be articulate) but eventually I just decided to release the first take

Of course mayne, I like to pride myself on the ability to try to match a banjo part to any wav file in existence

What is your background in the music software you are using? That synth that finds itself present almost throughout every bar of the verses sounds rather preset and cheap, while still catchy in a way. Still i would recommend isolating it and applying something like a logging or ribboncrush distortiom to it to hide its surface a bit

This is one of the most annoying stuff I've ever laid my ears on. That's what makes it brilliant.
(It took me a while to realise the first track was Sweet Leaf and After Forever)

im gonna be honest this is just completely annoying the changes aren't different enough to keep it interesting while the different parts are just different sections that work as loop stretched out the length of a song. With some processing and effects it could have a hypnotic feel but right now it's just annoying desu
