I can't speak for his intelligence but I have watched some vids of him producing and he seems pretty talented as far as the genre is concerned. Then again, in the same videos I have seem him make something half decent then just request his friend come over and lay down a sick piano part over the whole thing.

The problem with most artists is music is their way of expression because they struggle with expressing themselves in other ways. That is why it's rare to find very well spoken and articulate musicians because the 2 a well spoken musician is a contradiction in itself. J Cole has trouble articulating his thoughts and that comes off ass "dumb" or uneducated he did attend University so he isn't a retard but he clearly is a little slow verbally.

Honestly, hip hop is probably my favorite genre but the vast majority of interviews with rappers (if not their lyrics) exposes them as borderline retards
Not just that they're incredibly inarticulate, they seem to struggle to even put a sentence together and they say some dumb shit in general. It's always pretty disappointing to find out you love listening to a complete idiot, not that that takes away from their talent
