You are entitled to your opinion but imo TVU&N rocks way harder than this

Is the 45th anniversary remaster of this album good? Are the bonus tracks worth it?

I plan to, it's only fair.
But I expected so much more, after listening to Nico I was psyched for this and am now disappoint.
>>
>>66042199
it's by far the best velvet underground record IMO. but it will take you a few listens to really dissect the method behind the madness on it, at least it did for me. if you liked &nico a lot you'll probably like their next record more (except maybe murder mystery) but definitely revisit WL/WH

I agree, OP.

Yes, because it's an album from 1968.

Here's a profound concept to the dumb neckbeards that occupy this board: Things get better as time goes on, including music. People discover new things they like and discard the old things they don't like.

Music is remarkably better on every level than it was 50 years ago and what used to be considered exceptionally good now barely scrapes okay.

Don't let the snobby 20 something liberal arts students that tell you "le cool old contemporary art bands" like The Velvet Undground are legendary musical prowesses but can never formulate an argument beyond nebulous sarcasm tell you what to find good. That band's about as interesting as a million and one art rock groups that you wouldn't look twice at.
>>
>>66041660
Wow I can't believe how far music has come
>>
>>66042567
Nigga plz, that album helped shape everything you hear today. Annnd it still sounds fresh as fuck.
>>
its bretty gud. WL/WH the song is awesome.
>>
>>66042799
Two cavemen banging rocks together to make a syncopated beat was influential too, it doesn't automatically mean it's good
>>
>>66042567
i guess MAYBE this REALLY depends on your definition of good but you can posit your pretentious ass assessment of musical history as fact if you want
>>
>>66042199
Why the fuck am i reading this in Lou Reed's voice
>>
>>66043077
My point was that musical history doesn't automatically make it good.

Learn to read you troglodyte.

>obvious bait
>>
>>66043262
Saying something doesn't make it true.

If you have a rebuttal of some kind I'm happy to hear it.
>>
>>66043043
Whoa bruh you reaching but I'd be down to listen to some of that syncopated cave man shit tho.
>>
>>66041660
>posting obvious bait

Don't you know you shouldn't that?
>>
My rebuttal isn't any more objective than your opinion but the only measurable qualities that have improved over time are things like production and sound quality. Imo, that isn't important to how good a piece of music is. I'm not gonna defend WL/WH but &Nico is creative, it's original, and, for the most part, fuckin rocks. Personally, I mostly dislike new music. The vast majority of the music I do like is +30 years old. Most new music I see is lazy, uncreative, and repetitive. Obviously there are exceptions to this rule but almost anything that gets radio play nowadays sounds like shit. The lyrics are uninspired, the instrumentation is boring. What more can I say?

>almost anything that gets radio play nowadays sounds like shit
Nearly everything that gets played on the radio is shit. It's been like that since the dawn of the radio.
>>
>>66042567
i can see where you're coming from, but no. because music is largely judged for subjective things, like creativity and how it can connect to the listener/culture, it's really impossible to say that music is objectively improving because of a larger pool of influences or better production or whatever

genuinely curious, what are some of your favorite albums or bands?
>>
>>66042567
>hurr durr, music is inherently better because it is newer

please blend and drink your own ballsack
>>
>>66043452
I like CCR, The Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Eric Clapton, among others.

>>
>>66043589
The difference is that I think most people agree with me.

People just see that an album came out half a century ago and adjust their standards to be remarkably lower. If Abbey Road came out today you wouldn't give it the time of day, and I know that because there's a million and one neigh identical bands that /mu/ shits on just on the principle of being generic

>what are some of your favorite albums or bands?
Sparse pickings but that's true for most everything, I'm not easily impressed

Boards of Canada, Death Grips, Health, Amon Tobin, Have a Nice Life

Basically conceptual things, ideally stylized with purpose and not just stylized for the sake of it. I'm not above middle of the road dime a dozen music I just enjoy like emo though, I just admit it isn't good and it just appeals to me
>>
A lot of old albums sound like shit played today. It's not only about the shit production, but also about their primitive melodies and ideas. A lot of genres appeared since the '60s (the so called golden age of popular music) and new music benefits from that.

Just like this dude >>66042567 said:

Sister Ray is the greatest thing ever recorded and I will hold this opinion for the rest of my life.
