Alright everyone, let's actually have a discussion.

What's your favorite vocal arrangement by anco?
Favorite lyric?
Whats the moment in their discography that hits you hardest?
Favorite memorable experience listening to an AnCo album?

Also who wants the Harpy Sketches by DEAKIN as well as a rip of that limited tape the boys were selling at their recent Asheville show?
>>
>>66008041
Yeah that kinda fit, i've always found that there is a bit too much filller on SJ
>>66008054
>What's your favorite vocal arrangement by anco?
Probably Winter's Love, Sung Tongs in general
>Favorite lyric?
JUUST A SEC MOOREEE IN MY BED
>Whats the moment in their discography that hits you hardest?
Their live in the 2004-2007 era
>Favorite memorable experience listening to an AnCo album?
Probably fully tripping on acid near a lake on the woodswith HTCI playing

I really want Harpy Sketches tho
>>
>>66008054
>What's your favorite vocal arrangement by anco?
Probably Native Belle, Winters Love or Loch Raven. Can't really pick one of those.
>Favorite lyric?
" But you lay there so still doggy
you lay there
so still"
>Whats the moment in their discography that hits you hardest?
Holli to Feels
>Favorite memorable experience listening to an AnCo album
After partying all night, watching the sun rise to Loch Raven on a Lodge in the Beach

Here's some cool shit I have:

There are a lot of moments, but the first time I heard the opener of Spirit and the second time I listened to Campfire Songs.

And on their current tour. When the autoharp on Bees started was great

too fast for my taste, also the sonic landscape sounds to artificial. It's just whatever made albums like HCTI or Sung Tongs great was completely reversed. Just not in my taste.
Also didn't care too much for Panda's songwriting or Geo's effects.
>>
>>66008498
AnCo have always been a band of sounds and textures and here they're just doing really generic stuff but with their usual material

I don't hate it, but I find it much too short, meaning the ideas they're focusing on get very little in the way of development. Additionally, it is very clearly pulling from Avey and Panda's recent solo work, which isn't bad (Strawberry Jam pulled from Person Pitch and both are great), but makes me want something else from them.

I'm slowly being convinced of the cubist interpretation of the album. It does sound incredibly geometrical.

>What's your favorite vocal arrangement by anco?

Honestly, "Hey Light". I sat down really stoned one day and listened to the Ark version "Daylight", which is mostly free of lyrics but had the chorus and I was able to dissect with my ears that Deakin is doing backing vocals on that track along with Avey and Panda.

>Favorite lyric?
It's hard to just kiss our childhood games goodbye

>Whats the moment in their discography that hits you hardest?
YOU LEAVE MY BOY ALONE will always be the point where I cried while listening to it on acid. Loch Raven has become more and more emotional for me as of the past year.

>Favorite memorable experience listening to an AnCo album?
Either sitting with my friend on mushrooms, both of us just staring at the record while listening to "Visiting Friends", or walking through the streets right after it rained in the summer while listening to Water Curses.

>I'm slowly being convinced of the cubist interpretation of the album. It does sound incredibly geometrical.
the cubist aspect made me enjoy the hocketing a lot more. I already liked the vocal tosses a lot but when I looked at the phrases as fractured, and how that can change the interpretation of the lyrics... it's so cool. for instance on LITG: "all the pieces [are] where they ought to be, but it's clear that he don't look like me." they hit the nail right on the head there, the vocals are reconstructed in a way that is robotic and angular.

Safer. Anything from Safer. Safer. Safer.

Boom answered all four questions with one song. I'd love a rip of the tapes with Michael Remember and Danny's Jams (?) I think it was called. Already have Harpy Sketches (Red and Blue). Blue is certainly the better of the two imo.

here comes the indian is their best album imo

Glad to see people FINALLY getting the references and stylistic choices that represent cubism and dadaism within Painting With. Always was pretty cool explaining this to people and having them come back into threads and be like "Wow, I never really looked at it that way before."

Animal Collective's music is always deeper than the surface. That's not to say AnCo's music is "super deep and introspective and intellectual man". Just saying people heard "weird noises" and think AnCo just wants to make "weird noises for the sake of making weird noises". Which is the worst opinion of all.

>>
>>66014732
Well which ones did you enjoy most and why?
>>
Where do you guys put B-sides in your music players? Specifically Safer
>>
>>66014812
I have listened to Sung Tongs and Hummer the most -- I love the acoustics. I like MWWP for reasons that should be obvious. I like strawberry because of the vocal timbre (like the screaming).
>>
Painting With clicked for me. I was with some boys tripping acid by a fire, and we had gone through most of AnCo, so we figured fuck it lets do PW.

Honestly it was the stand out of the night something about the Northern Virginia, Maryland area in the summer tripping on acid it just fit perfectly.

I put Safer at the end of Strawberry Jam, but only really as a holder I guess.

Has anybody worked out lyrics to Deakin's "Shadow Mine" and "Seed Song"? The latter might be impossible but it seems like the former is at least partially legible

For Shadow Mine I've only got:
"When I get lonely, when I get lonely, when I get lonely I'm not even a shadow mine"
[...]
"Why is it always like this?"
