I have been getting really into shoegazy ambient/noise music lately and I need some recommendations. I've listened to the stuff that is on the shoegaze flowcharts already, and I really like Belong, Loveliescrushing, and especially Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. any more I should listen to?

well, I mentioned the charts, I happen to have all of them, and he asked, so I see no reason why not to just go ahead and post them

Because they are cancerous, promote a lack of self-exploration and actually limit the outlook of listeners who use them?
>>66003966
that's one way of looking at it, but I think it's a fun and easy way of exploring the essentials of a genre.
There is obviously a lot more to explore, so if the person really likes it, they will put more effort into it.

>cancerous

>promote a lack of self-exploration
How so? I think they are just a good starting point for the actual self-exploration. Nobody will limit himself to only the choices from such images, if he actually found something good and will look further.

a) it gives the idea that all good shoegaze and its subgenres are accessible on the internet (there are many "esoteric" shoegaze releases, particularly in the Jap scene)
b) it gives a backlog that most will either take a long amount of time or won't bother completing before a listener will feel like moving on
c) genre labels and strict categorization that does nothing for the actual music, masking similar artists who simply weren't categorized as such
d) it restricts movement of exploring artists by the arbitrary notion that these are representative works They are, but if they are then why move on? Some listeners won't find the need to because they were told this by a flowchart. This BastianDansk guy is a pure retard when it comes to this.
e) the notion of "the big three" and how everything somehow has to do with them when this is not at all true
>>66004434
These are all valid complaints, especially the points about incorrect categorization, restriction of movement, and suggesting that everything is derivative of the big three. However, they are still good for getting a basic intro.
I think of these flowcharts like a Wikipedia article for something: good if you want a basic intro, and if you are actually knowledgeable about the subject or want to learn more you'll do you own research and find better sources.

Pretty much. I'm glad you understand my complaints. These charts are definitely fine for some people, but in the wrong hands it can be extremely poisonous especially for those who are just starting to get into music in general.
>>66003536
This is one of the best charts /mu/ has ever made, a lot of deep cuts
>>66004854
well considering /mu/ LOVES shoegaze and there is almost always an active shoegaze thread going on, it's not surprising.
