why is mainstream music - pop, rock, r&b, house, techno, etc - so simplistic in terms of harmony, melody and rhythm? are there any examples of mainstream artists going beyond the traditional and succesfully incorporating other techniques to their sound? I'm talking about contemporary acts, 21st century if you will
