I don't know if I'll "make it", but that's what I'm aiming for. I'd like to write a bunch more great songs, get a great band together around my music, and get gigs and tour like motherfuckers.
I'll be honest here, most bands on the touring circuit right now are pure shit. Nobody is trying to write good songs anymore, they're all just aiming for some sort of particular genre or social clique to fit into.
You've gotta do it the way the boys from Oasis did it. Say what you want about them being wankers or disliking their music or whatever, but the way the Gallagher brothers made it is the same way I envision any aspiring alternative rock songwriter should approach trying to get big in the business; don't take shit from anybody,talk a lot of shit about other bands and artists, be pompous and overly confident. Fake it till you make it. It's how you get to that level of fame if you don't have a lot of money.

My band's going to be frequently named alongside the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Nirvana, and other greats. I just need to form a band, and probably learn an instrument before I do that.
It would be cool if I could someday make some kind of money off of my music, but I play because I love to, not for the goal of actually making it out there.
I think I've got a shot. My sound's unique enough and I have a good base of musician friends to collaborate with and keep things interesting. Plus, I've never gotten a negative response from an audience.

It would be pretty good to tour the world, play music etc. However I'm realistic and realize for 99.9% of us, we will never do it (to the extent of a major international band). Is it even possible in this day and age to 'make it' in a guitar band?
No, probably not, but that's ok. I'm writing an album right now. I just want the music to be heard.
The real problem is that I feel like everything that I make is shit and that I'm a hack.

Being in a band is even worse too because you have multiple competing song writing ideas, and no one will agree on anything. Every band practice we have ends up regressing into an incoherent 45 minute improv and then we just go out, get high and get food

I wish sometimes that one day, I would put out a really good and groundbreaking album, but I don't think I practice enough to do that, I'm unprolific as fuck and I spend most of my free time drinking and/or smoking weed while browsing chilean hiking enthusiasts forums. All I'm left with is a load of unfinished songs in my DAWs I made in an afternoon.
I sometimes wish that will create some nice (open-source ?) software to make dank music with too. But I don't practice very much too and my mathematics skills aren't on par with an average electrical engineer. I just enjoy reading stuff on Hacker News and /r/programming.
It's not really about money, more about feeling loved and useful to others in a neat way by people who share my hobbies. But I guess I'm too lazy and have a too shitty reward system to rise above mediocrity in life. Maybe one day I will have a kid who will be able to do this, if I learn him/her how a synthesizer and a DAW works at an early age.

If you weren't a musical prodigy by 12 and didn't start making local connections by 15, it is literally impossible for you to make it. Just give up. The modern world has too many artists for late bloomers to stand a chance.
This applies to all art forms, by the way. You won't be a famous writer if you weren't already publishing books by 21, and you won't be a famous director if you didn't have a few local movies to your name by 18.
