Mostly what last.fm does is keeps track of every song you listen to. It used to have a radio feature but not anymore. And I doubt the old last.fm radio had much of a catalog of Russian classical, so that stuff is likely music she was already familiar with.

reason grimes is so attractive: she's low league

james is basically a /mu/tant who rode off the success of his more talented partner in elite gymnastics and has spiraled into mediocrity ever since. the only thing that's kept him relevant is sjws bitching about his mansplaining and the fact that he's dating lady gaga 2.0

i like grimes. nothing wrong with being low-league. we can't all be chads, and frankly it's refreshing and inspiring that someone low on the social ladder rocketed up it and is on the path to being a mainstream popstar.

I'd say Halfaxa was a masterpiece.

Saw the album cover and chose to listen to it for the hell of it. Found it unsettling, reminding me of death and general misery, but also very catching. Listened to it repeatedly. Now I just find her style very relaxing... centering, or some such.

Dream Fortress, My Sister Says the Saddest Things, and Intor/Flowers especially.

>“REALiTi” comes from an album that Boucher recorded and then scrapped—it was too “disturbing,” she says, and she decided that she wouldn’t feel right disseminating such a hopeless message.

>In San Diego, Boucher’s celebrity was powerful enough to let her skip the line at the “Game of Thrones” virtual-reality exhibit, which she found so seductive as to be slightly alarming. (“I felt an incredible yearning to go back into it forever,” she later wrote on Twitter.) But it was not sufficient to prevent her from freezing in the presence of George R. R. Martin, the author of the “Game of Thrones” books, whom she was introduced to at a Comic-Con party. A mutual friend told Martin, “This is Grimes, the next Lady Gaga.” Martin grasped Boucher’s hand, but she was too nervous to do much besides gaze at his face and repeat the last thing she had heard.
>“Gaga,” she said, quietly. “Gaga.”

>From the start, Boucher was a focal point: she had a proactive approach to making friends, which involved identifying interesting-looking people and then bombarding them with attention. One fellow-musician remembers receiving, within hours of meeting her, a voluminous e-mail about music and performance and “human communication writ large.”

what about the deegees
>>
>After a few minutes, she called her tour manager over. At first, it looked as if Boucher were complaining about the sound mix, but the manager returned with a small black garbage can, to which Boucher addressed herself, as discreetly as possible, while the beats kept thumping.

>Even the fans in the front, singing along, probably didn’t notice, and the ones who did surely didn’t mind: watching Boucher fight through adversity is in some ways more fun than watching her hit all her marks. But after the show, restless beside Brooks in her tour bus, Boucher was frustrated. “Normally, I just zone out, and I pretend to be someone else,” she said. “And today I couldn’t—I was too sick.” She says she suffers from a bacteria intolerance that makes it hard for her to digest food, and she had made the mistake of eating too close to showtime. “It wasn’t a Grimes show,” she said—the illness had made her too weak, and too self-conscious, to give herself over to the performance. “It was Claire pretending to be Grimes.”

death grips are hacks
>>
>>65970617
I just listen to halfaxa whenever I'm feeling depressed, and last week I had the most depressing 3 days of my life ever. It was after smoking weed which is something I don't usually do. I don't know if it's related to it or not. I just came down really quickly and started to cry to fifteen minutes to.
I listened to her early stuff a lot those days, they made me feel at home. I've been ok for two days now I think
I'll not listen to halfaxa again for a month or so

>>65971194
I like death grips here but I mostly like their most popular songs, hacker, get got, the fever, hustle bones. The other ones I can't get into
>>
>>65971258
Don't want to, mainly. But you could also say I "can't" in that it's eventually functionally crippling, and I know better at this point.

Put most concisely I had enough, and thus that frame of life faded as I dragged my way back to functionality. I'm very careful to only access the mental structures and "lenses" I made during that time through an indirect layer, if I need them for something.

Ultimately, I'll eventually need to intentionally go back, in some capacity, if I want to attempt any sense of reconciliation. But not right now. There are too many (personal) aspects to concisely explain the underlying features of the greater "why", though. I will say it was a beautiful, blissful, miserable, myopic, insightful, banal, novel, formless, static, alive, and dead place. And it certainly taught me a lot.

ever since grimes pushed me into a pool of blood on a trip, i have been visited by beings who defy description and the sciences, they have violated my mind and forced my eyes open to the worst truths.

it's made me more spiritual and i feel compelled to begin composing to appease the horrible celestial beings who hold themselves over me.

its something of an amazing feeling desu. a combination of abject terror, skepticism, a consistent worry that im this close to needing to be comitted and everything is wrapped in this quasi-religious euphoria. i just hope i have enough talent to make something that isn't garbo experimental music.

now that we've had a soul dump can we get back to discussing the greatest artist of the decade?

I think weed makes pop up things we usually distract ourselves away of, like meditation does, for me it was missing my mother, or feeling lonely.
I really felt like life had no purpose, I've always thought like that but never had truly FELT it like I did those days.
Since then I think my purpose is going to be helping others, I don't know if I'll do it via writing or music or helping the poor or the old people. Sure, it may all be pointless and they and me will die in the end and the universe won't care about it, but in a point in space and time they and I existed and felt things, and I made them feel better.

I think I may be in trouble now. The world of Halfaxa feels more real to me that whatever this place I am in now does. I question if I'm even the same person or have I collided and merged with one of these beings. Maybe I'm a halfling trapped between two planes.

But well outside I that, I guess I'm pretty excited about the upcoming medieval warfare song.
>>
>>65972095
It just made me feel really indecent, i started to think of my past a lot and what happened to this person.
I found myself listening to Tool as something i could take jubilance in. It's like escaping but i was very much confronting by things.

>>65972255
Any Grimes is hype, it'l be neat to hear something theatrical.
>>
>>65972255
I'm really intrigued by what you're feeling right now, I've never felt such a thing or went in such trances. I'm too self conscious for that and never tried any hard drugs

idk how medieval warfare is going to be, surely it's going to sound like kill v maim or something like that

It's for a movie so i guess it'll be something bombastic as hell, she won't be producing it.
>>
>>65972620
I've truly come to appreciate her early stuff, I think it's more "real", like she had a lot of pain to express and it came across perfectly on her amateurish lofi sound

>>65972747
she won't be producing it? really?
>>
>>65972420
I don't know how into books you are, but if you're intrigued, The Hill of Dreams by Machen can express these feelings better than I can. Try listen to early Grimes like Halfaxa and Geidi Primes and read it. It can serve as either a warning or invitation to something beyond realiti.
>>
>>65972807
It's a big budget film and they can't take any chances. Hopefully she doesn't have to wish upon any more stars.
>>
>>65972814
sure, I'll try that out
I have read books before when listening to her early albums, the tunnel by sabato is one I can remember. The songs truly amplified the feeling of "something has gone terribly wrong" that the book gives away

>>65972897
I don't like it, first she doesn't master art angels, then this? I hope it doesn't become a trend in her

she said something along the lines that she never really faced those things, who knows, we may have angsty claire back in some years.
not that I wish it, but if another halfaxa comes out I wouldn't be angry
>>
>>65973563
I think it's empathy that enables something that otherwise wouldn't be there, like a contact high.
The way you described sounds evident in her current work, i think that's what got my attention and what i've related to.
I absolutely think she must confront whatever shit it is. Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens.
>>
>>65973712
yeah, when I was depressed some days ago I felt understood and connected to her by her early music, and I started to idealize her a lot.

- memes and pastas

- hate speech
- youtube links.

DAILY REMINDER that some of these haters actually love Grimes.
>>
>>65972941
>first she doesn't master art angels, then this?
Are you retarded? 99,999% of talented producers don't actually master their music. It's something that always being done by record label. Mastering is not related to proccess of making art.
>>
>>65976322
>Mastering is not related to proccess of making art.
yes, it is
>>
>>65975996
They clearly just bash artists, it's like the hipster intention/mentality/demographic never occurred to her.

She is naive to take these articles seriously, especially when hot opinions become published somewhere, it should be laughed at.
She's just so proud though.
>>
>>65976493
I wouldn't be surprised if James got all worked up about it and if it was something that they bonded over.
>>
>>65976416
singing, songwriting, production, playing instruments are art proccesses as they require inspiration and creativity, this is when art is actually being created
mastering is just finalizing process before sending a product to music stores which requires some technical knowledge of mastering engineer - there is no inspiration, creativity or anything related to artistic vision
unmastered song can sound good enough - see realiti demo
as i said before, producers normally don't master their music, it's record label responsibility
>>
>>65976582
Exactly. Mastering and mixing are technical jobs, better done by experts. Grimes does everything else though. Her haters should name ONE other female artist that did the same things as Grimes and had success. Just one.

He's read like this because of how little purpose the song really has, since it's not about anyone in particular.
With that said, it feels disingenuous. You can't express somebody else's vulnerability like that, especially for conditions you're not attributed to. It's objectively offensive.
It's so self-righteous when there's no personal cause, it almost feels exploitative. They really should have questioned him having a perspective at all.

Musically though there's some good ideas.

Mixing and mastering are processes specifically geared towards ensuring that the sound of the music as developed by the producer remains unchanged on the final record. Mixing/mastering are only artistic processes when they aren't done very well.
