Just like starting a routine at the gym/playing an instrument/learning a programming language, it's really easy the first few days. But that's the extent of initial motivation. Make your lyrics as honest as possible. It's only cringy if you're trying to seem angsty instead of actually expressing it. Part of songwriting is not only writing honestly, but convincing your audience that you're telling the truth. Find constructive ways of phrasing your lyrics in a non-sappy way.
Good example of a songwriter taking a clichè idea and expressing it uniquely and with conviction. The whole basis of a sad girlfriend song can be taken to retarded levels of sappyness, but this song makes it more real through the lyrics.

Capital means major, lowercase means minor:
C Major:

A Minor:
i - ii - III - iv - v - VI - VII - i

Start and end on either I, IV, or V. You can maneuver anywhere within the scale, so long as you end on a consonance. Build a progression. Start little, then slowly add onto what you build.
