The Outsider has some hyphy on it but it's also got influences from chopped 'n screwed beats, krautrock, other plunderphonics (stuff like Negativland and Art of Noise), southern hip-hop (Outkast), Ennio Morricone, jazz, a whole bunch of stuff. There are even a couple songs that sound like Radiohead
I think it just confused a lot of people who wanted to lump it in with trip-hop or popular electonica crossover music
and at the end of the day he did hip-hop beats better than he did that other stuff so there is some dead weight on it
