Tom is the songwriting talent of the band, the guy who really developed the Blink-182 sound and wrote their best songs.
Mark says STICK TO THE FORMULA, and like Love does to Wilson, takes advantage of DeLonge's mental illness.
Now also like Mike Love, Mark is carrying on a bastard version of Blink-182 that is a shallow and cheap attempt to recreate their old sound while sounding like shit.

I've only listened to Bored to Death, Rabbit Hole, and LA so far. It's not bad, not the biggest fan of Skiba though.

The longer this goes on, the more I'm really starting to think Mark is being SUPER passive aggressive and childish.
I think Tom genially cares about them, and Travis is trying to help patch things up, but Mark is being pretty stubborn. I feel like the first time Blink broke up, that Mark had a lot more to do with that than Tom did. Tom wanted to take time off for his family and Mark wanted to keep touring. Both ideas are fine and all, but family always comes before work. They had been on a brutal schedule from 1999-2004 and they deserved some time off. I don't see why Blink had to end in 2005. If they had just given Tom some time off, they could have come back and written a fantastic album. Imagine WDNTW combined with a Self Titled feel?
As for 2015, that was a little different. Judging from the sound of things, Tom REALLY tried to have fun with Blink anymore but Mark seemed to have downplayed him several times. Tom wanted to release DED a little early for the fans, and (allegedly) Mark wanted it to be taken down. Again, Tom comes to Mark about Poet Anderson and Mark shoots him down again. (Like it or hate it, Tom TRIED to include them) Granted, Tom handled the whole "Tom.Is.Out" thing poorly, and he should have contacted them himself, but it just seems like Mark has been very passive aggressive towards Tom. Tom even tweeted at Mark several months into last year to say that he could 'never hate Mark, and that he was his bestfriend for years' and Mark NEVER responded.
I love Mark. I love Travis. I love Tom. I love AVA and +44, but I think many fans were misled in this whole breakup and seem to think Tom is the problem, when in fact, Mark has had a lot to do with this as well.

i genuinely like this record but i hope to god the next record has less Feldmann influence and more of an input from Skiba. its definitely devoid of personality. that guitar chord they play, right at "bauhaus stuck in her head" in Shes Out Of Her Mind, that right there feels so not-blink to me. i still like it, fuck it i like Los Angeles and thats all shades of Linkin Park Fall Out Boy, but so much of this record doesn't feel "blink".
i also hope to god the next record has more riffs. the closest thing that comes to mind on this record to a riff is Kings Of The Weekends bridge, and it has a dumb flanger effect on it. Cynicals a great album opener but it could have been Pathetic/Dumpweed level had it gotten a great riff - even just imagining Brohemians riff on it would have made it better.
John Feldmann is a titanic piece of shit and is probably the main reason why this album sucks ass. From overproducing it, to using melodyne and compressed vocals to telling the members to just write down whatever first comes into their mind. It seems that Blink has never recovered from Jerry Finn's death and I doubt if they ever will.
The main argument from the defenders of this album is "B-but Blink has always sounded pop haha.", and that's absolutely true. But if you honestly think that old Blink sounds like this then you're delusional. Even though it has been repeated a hundred times, this really does sound like a garbage modern pop-punk band like All Time Low or 5 Seconds of Summer. The lyrics are generic as fuck, the guitar riffs and bass lines are uninspired, and Los Angeles is a clear rip off of Centuries by Fall Out Boy.
The only "good" songs are : Cynical, She's Out of Her Mind, Los Angeles (even though it's a rip off), Kings of the Weekend, Teenage Satellites and Left Alone.
The rest range from bad to decent. Seriously, fuck John Feldmann because he is the main reason why this album is ass. Fucking hell, a few of the songs even sound like Goldfinger.

yep. i was initially cool with that when Rabbit Hole dropped, i like Goldfinger, but then when No Future dropped and i heard the chorus, i started to get real worried. even in fuckin Los Angeles, when it got to 1:35 with just the bass and organ, i felt like i was gonna' hear Feldmann come in singing 99 red balloons. i feel bad for Skiba because he's capable of much more and i feel like a lot of casual listeners are gonna' pin this album's sound on him because "hes the new guy and not Tom!!" when a lot of this is definitely Feldmann's fault.

I love this album and I agree with everything you've said. As much as I dislike what Feldmann did with this album, he got the band to a place where they're comfortable writing music again, all together in the same room. I've been wanting a blink record since Neighborhoods, and we got one with lots of songs on it. I don't think the whole album is for everyone, but there are a few gems on it and there's something for everyone.
Maybe we'll get some better songs in the EP later this year. Hopefully, those are songs that didn't fit in with the rest of California.
i also can't wait for the new Good Charlotte record Feldmann's producing to come out next month too so we can hear how indistinguishable it is from California.
