This album sounds more like a Blink-182 album attempt than the last two albums yet without Tom it sucks

Nah man tom ruined blink. Glad he is gone. He's been shit 2004

This was stupid.

Also, Tom would have actually wrote a good melody, not that shitty song.

And I was actually having a nice day for once
>>
>>65914131
at least that song and the other joke bonus songs from that record were acoustic and probably recorded in 1 or 2 takes. they weren't full band recordings. not that Happy Holidays is much better but at least it felt a BIT more age appropriate back in 2001.

Tom's constant tug of war between wanting to pander to blink fans that hes still FUNNY and COOL but also wanting to be taken as a serious artist who fucking talks to CIA or whatever about secret alien shit is ridiculous. he's a self-proclaimed "forward thinking artist" who released a 2:30 song about puking and pissing and shitting on your cousin (lol xd) a year ago
>>
anyone else think Tom is schizo or something? I remember when blink broke up he did a bunch of interviews saying he was gonna come up with a technology that would change everything like the Internet or cellphone. And then it was angels and airwaves. Now he revealed the full extent of his aliens paranoia which he always kind of hinted at

I'm 5'7", so he's 9 inches taller than me...
>>
>>65914425
oh yeah he's pretty fucked up. which is sad to see since i idolized him so much growing up but now hes gone off the deep end. every interview he's done since he was kicked out of blink last year involves him saying how he's talking to higher ups in the government about alien activity, but its yet to amount to anything. why would you say you're being given crazy information from government officials and decide to release that information.. in "semi-fiction" books that no one cares about?

he did a tv interview a few weeks back where he admitted his to the stars company isn't even really making money. it's really sad.

>>
>>65914425
I think he legit joined the Free Masons. He joined because its like a secret society.

In reality its a sort of adjunct to relgion. You join and they do some ritual shit and then you vow to go and change the world. Read War and Peace. But its obvious that he thinks angels and airwaves is his initiate task.

The dude is a nut.
>>
>>65914557
>he did a tv interview a few weeks back where he admitted his to the stars company isn't even really making money
Well that was the entire reason blink ever got back together to begin with. Tom wasn't making the cash he was used to with his non-blink ventures, so he half-assed a reunion to fund himself.

>>65915118
i guess. i like to at least give him the benefit of the doubt and say for the 09 reunion, that he DID put aside the bullshit because of travis almost fuckin dying, but yeah probably a couple months in he already stopped caring. all this bullshit now saying he is technically still in the band and that he didn't quit is blatant though, and it leads me to believe he's gonna' try and squirm his way back into blink in a few years time when he's borderline bankrupt.

>>65915179
skiba was probably the most interesting part and highlight of the new album honestly
>>
>>65915179

he's shit
>>
Why did Tom throw it all away?

He can still write good songs and has an adoring fanbase, what gives?
>>
>>65915445
Midlife crisis. He's said in interviews that he got to a point where he started thinking to himself that he may regret not doing other things, and that's why he's branched out to all this non-music stuff. I guess he got too wrapped up in it and music took a backseat.

We're ok with Los Angeles as the best track of the album?

Los Angeles > Cynical > She's Out Her Mine > Rabbit Hole > rest of the tracks
>>
This band got shit, sadly.

Sober and Brohemian are the only spotlights of this record

>>65915163
It's the best "ambitious" thing that Tom has done.
>>
Tom DeLonge = Brian Wilson
Mark Hoppus = Mike Love

Tom is the songwriting talent of the band, the guy who really developed the Blink-182 sound and wrote their best songs.

Mark says STICK TO THE FORMULA, and like Love does to Wilson, takes advantage of DeLonge's mental illness.

Now also like Mike Love, Mark is carrying on a bastard version of Blink-182 that is a shallow and cheap attempt to recreate their old sound while sounding like shit.
>>
>>65915677
I think Cynical is my top track so far after only a couple listens. LA is good though, and different. Reminds me a bit of Fighting the Gravity off their last album.

>In 2005, DeLonge formed Angels and Airwaves, an ambitious group that mixed punk with U2-like anthems. DeLonge predicted it would be "the greatest rock & roll revolution for this generation" and compared it to the Second Coming of Christ. Now, he admits he was "superwired" on painkillers during that time. He eventually kicked pills by going cold turkey, spending five days vomiting and writhing on the floor of his house. "Narcotics are demons," he says. "It was such an insane thing to go through ... I never want to land there again."

when I first heard that faggot who leaked it's recording of LA earlier today, I thought for sure it was the song Patrick Stump co-wrote cuz it had gay modern FOB written all over it.. but then it turns out he didn't lol. listening to it in full though, i do like it alot more. it still doesn't feel "blink" to me but i still like it.

mines more like
Cynical = Only Thing That Matters > Rabbit Hole > Shes Out Of Her Mind = Home Is Such A Lonely Place > everythin else

>>65915718
its sad we may never heard a well written Tom & Mark record/song again. i mean a song they both had a lot of input in, and not the seperate studio bullshit they had going on with Neighborhoods. while California does feel pretty shallow and devoid of personality, i'd blame that more on Feldmann. i still like the record a fair bit though, and if New World was supposedly Tom's vision of what new blink shoulda sounded like, i'll happily take Cynical or Rabbit Hole over that.

Made it to Rabbit Hole and stopped, this is terrible. http://themusic.com.au/news/all/2016/06/24/exclusive-mark-hoppus-denies-tom-delonge%E2%80%99s-blink-reunion-claims/

The longer this goes on, the more I'm really starting to think Mark is being SUPER passive aggressive and childish.
I think Tom genially cares about them, and Travis is trying to help patch things up, but Mark is being pretty stubborn. I feel like the first time Blink broke up, that Mark had a lot more to do with that than Tom did. Tom wanted to take time off for his family and Mark wanted to keep touring. Both ideas are fine and all, but family always comes before work. They had been on a brutal schedule from 1999-2004 and they deserved some time off. I don't see why Blink had to end in 2005. If they had just given Tom some time off, they could have come back and written a fantastic album. Imagine WDNTW combined with a Self Titled feel?
As for 2015, that was a little different. Judging from the sound of things, Tom REALLY tried to have fun with Blink anymore but Mark seemed to have downplayed him several times. Tom wanted to release DED a little early for the fans, and (allegedly) Mark wanted it to be taken down. Again, Tom comes to Mark about Poet Anderson and Mark shoots him down again. (Like it or hate it, Tom TRIED to include them) Granted, Tom handled the whole "Tom.Is.Out" thing poorly, and he should have contacted them himself, but it just seems like Mark has been very passive aggressive towards Tom. Tom even tweeted at Mark several months into last year to say that he could 'never hate Mark, and that he was his bestfriend for years' and Mark NEVER responded.
I love Mark. I love Travis. I love Tom. I love AVA and +44, but I think many fans were misled in this whole breakup and seem to think Tom is the problem, when in fact, Mark has had a lot to do with this as well.

Yeah Mark's being an ass, fuck skiba. That shit sucks.
>>
i genuinely like this record but i hope to god the next record has less Feldmann influence and more of an input from Skiba. its definitely devoid of personality. that guitar chord they play, right at "bauhaus stuck in her head" in Shes Out Of Her Mind, that right there feels so not-blink to me. i still like it, fuck it i like Los Angeles and thats all shades of Linkin Park Fall Out Boy, but so much of this record doesn't feel "blink".

i also hope to god the next record has more riffs. the closest thing that comes to mind on this record to a riff is Kings Of The Weekends bridge, and it has a dumb flanger effect on it. Cynicals a great album opener but it could have been Pathetic/Dumpweed level had it gotten a great riff - even just imagining Brohemians riff on it would have made it better.
>>
John Feldmann is a titanic piece of shit and is probably the main reason why this album sucks ass. From overproducing it, to using melodyne and compressed vocals to telling the members to just write down whatever first comes into their mind. It seems that Blink has never recovered from Jerry Finn's death and I doubt if they ever will.

The main argument from the defenders of this album is "B-but Blink has always sounded pop haha.", and that's absolutely true. But if you honestly think that old Blink sounds like this then you're delusional. Even though it has been repeated a hundred times, this really does sound like a garbage modern pop-punk band like All Time Low or 5 Seconds of Summer. The lyrics are generic as fuck, the guitar riffs and bass lines are uninspired, and Los Angeles is a clear rip off of Centuries by Fall Out Boy.

The only "good" songs are : Cynical, She's Out of Her Mind, Los Angeles (even though it's a rip off), Kings of the Weekend, Teenage Satellites and Left Alone.

The rest range from bad to decent. Seriously, fuck John Feldmann because he is the main reason why this album is ass. Fucking hell, a few of the songs even sound like Goldfinger.

2.5/5

the only thing i can applaud Feldmann on is getting this album out so quick, but obviously thats also part of the reason its so rushed and uninspired. and

>a few of the songs even sound like Goldfinger.
yep. i was initially cool with that when Rabbit Hole dropped, i like Goldfinger, but then when No Future dropped and i heard the chorus, i started to get real worried. even in fuckin Los Angeles, when it got to 1:35 with just the bass and organ, i felt like i was gonna' hear Feldmann come in singing 99 red balloons. i feel bad for Skiba because he's capable of much more and i feel like a lot of casual listeners are gonna' pin this album's sound on him because "hes the new guy and not Tom!!" when a lot of this is definitely Feldmann's fault.

I love this album and I agree with everything you've said. As much as I dislike what Feldmann did with this album, he got the band to a place where they're comfortable writing music again, all together in the same room. I've been wanting a blink record since Neighborhoods, and we got one with lots of songs on it. I don't think the whole album is for everyone, but there are a few gems on it and there's something for everyone.

Maybe we'll get some better songs in the EP later this year. Hopefully, those are songs that didn't fit in with the rest of California.

i also can't wait for the new Good Charlotte record Feldmann's producing to come out next month too so we can hear how indistinguishable it is from California.
