Why listen to music coming out in 2016 when you can listen to music that's good?
>>
>>65896934
because stagnation is bad
>>
You'll never move forward in a backwards motion
>>
>>65897187
Current music is more stagnant than actually innovative music of previous decades.
>>
I wait until all the decent new music is filtered to the top, so it's about a 5:1 old to new ratio. It works well.
>>
>>65897239
Filtered to the top of what
>>
>>65897229
Someone doesn't know what they are talking about
>>
>>65897279
Please enlighten me
>>
>>65897260
I mean if I hear a lot of talk about it and I have reason to believe it's worthwhile.
>>
I hate music. I just listen to trendy songs on YouTube to be hype. I only want what's has the most hype or hot girls. You kids stick to your dadrock
>>
Music, since becoming a commercially / publicly available form of mass media, is inherently a reflection of its time.

Since the late 2000s, I've lost interest in new music. I don't like the directions popular culture is taking. The 60s - 90s can be seen conveniently through rosy nostalgia glasses, making these decades' music more enjoyable. I've been on an early 70s kick for a month now, feels great
>>
>>65896934
Lol
>>
i haven't heard any 2016 releases, and i generally prefer to explore music from the past. nothing against modern music, but there's simply so much more 'old' than 'new' by any reasonable definition of the terms, it seems ridiculous for any music fan not to focus most of their energy on the 'old.' also there's too much marketing/hype associated with recent releases, i prefer to have history sort out the worthwhile from the shit.
>>
>>65896934
There's plenty of good new music, people like you are just too fucking lazy to look for it.
>>
>>65896934
Half the people here only listen to new music so they don't get called dadrock fans or borninlewronggeneration memes
>>
>>65898454
>makes mediocre derivative music and posts to bandcamp
>undiscovered
>bitter
>taking it out on OP

Why does /mu/ say "music" when clearly they mean rock? What's the last modern jazz album you've listened to, and how does it compare to the older recordings? What's the newest Western art piece you've been to a performance of?

This is the most musically ignorant discussion board that takes itself seriously.
>>
>>65898513
I'm too lazy to make music and yet I'm still not lazy enough to not search for it
>>
>>65898560
rec some 2010s please, genuinely curious
>>
>>65898541
Thats /mu/ overall though except for the empty generals of /classical/, /trad/ and /jazz/

Rock, rap or waifupop.
>>
>>65898541
You come into this thread expecting "le wrong generation" rockists and due to confirmation bias, that's what you see. Get the fuck off this thread, you don't want to be tired for school tomorrow
>>
>>65898541
we also like pop
>>
>>65898583
Here's a list of some of the shit in my library that's post 2009:
Syro - Aphex Twin (electronic)
Teens of Denial - Car Seat Headrest (lo-fi indie rock)
CLPPNG - clipping. (hip hop/noise)
All We Love We Leave Behind - Converge (actual good metalcore)
Anything by Death Grips (hip hop combined with other shit)
Plastic Beach - Gorillaz (pop/hip hop)
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West (hip hop)
The Hunter - Mastodon (heavy metal)
Pelagial - The Ocean (progressive sludge/post metal)
The Seer/To Be Kind - Swans (post-rock)

Anyone else please feel free to tell me how bad my taste is.
>>
>>65898819
lmao
this got me

it's not that bad OP
there's some good stuff out this year 2bh
>>
>>65898834
I've listened to all this and I truly prefer 90s and before
>>
>>65898874
Honestly, most stuff before the 90s sound cheesy and dated to me
>>
>>65898610
Its sad so many people ignore decades, shit centuries of music outside the latest /mu/core and general essentials chart because of an anti-reddit meme.

Have you heard these yet, family?
>>
>>65896934
Because /mu/ "enjoys" music in the same way that /tv/ enjoys movies and /fa/ enjoys fashion: post-ironically

Besides, having spicy opinions on new, well-known (because of viral marketing) music is a MUCH easier way to become "the hip, music-knowledgable guy" among your friends than actually listening to tons of music and learning about its history, trends, influences, etc. And if you have even the slightest investment of effort in something perceived as hip/cool, you want to be acknowledged, dammit. So there you go
>>
>>65898610
/mu/ is MAYBE 10% actual rock/electronic discussion, along with 2-3% jazz/trad/classical discussion. The rest is non-musical discussion that may (on occasion) vaguely pertain to overly publicized rock albums.
>>
>>65899314
True.
>>
>>65899011
I listened to all of those. Ew.
