It's not cringe, but him making a video trying to prove that type of music is bad is a bad example of misleading people on what is "music". Also he has this ignorant air to him that does not know the classics in the those genres during the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's. He picked the worst in those genres. Although his choices for metal is one thing, but when he pointed out music that is probably as bad or worse like Dream Theater and Kamelot. "Old School" Rap used to brag a lot as well. They just didn't highlight it as much as they did the way they got there.
They'd talk about the streets and their hustle and then the achievements they'd get from their work as drug dealers or gang members.
It wasn't glorified as it is today. I honestly felt bad for all the rappers who had to deal drugs and such for money. A lot of them died before the next decade.
Rappers now don't need to talk about how the got to where they are to be in the mainstream, they just need to be catchy and talk about what other rappers talk about. Sure, they still do talk about it, it's just the highlighted part is the money, hoes, cars and clothes rather than the struggle that they faced or still are facing.
(Keep in mind, not all rappers do this, lots of them talk about other stuff than the typical things)
