just got that lush from earlier this year, i guess ill post my thoughts about this after a few listens
>>
>>65861644
pinkshinyultrablast maybe?
>>
>>65862321
Already heard it, anything else?
I also listened to that Sound of Ceres thing and I liked it a lot but I'm pretty tired of it now aside from maybe Side A and Dagger Only Run.
>>
>>65862354
Deerhoof has some new stuff but I haven't heard it yet
>>
>>65862395
Oh yeah, did that album come out yet? I thought it's due in like a few days or something.
>>
>>65861644
The new Citrus Nowhere EP
There's some new The White Tulips as well, but I have yet to listen.
The Florist just released something.
The piqnic now known as qujaku is THE hottest band imo rn. Check them out on soundcloud.

also hi guys

What albums are you all excited for?

Looking forward to True Widow.
I'll deffo give the new The Earth Earth a listen too, although I wasn't much a fan of the new single.

I love the haunting and looming guitars on this track! m b v is a bit similar, but I'm not looking for the denser sounds featured on it.
>>

>>
>>65864566
Try Kinoko Teikoku's earlier work? Japanese Shoegaze is really nice.
>>
>>65864566
There's the vocaloid shoegaze guy called Siesta on Sunday who probably has the best glide guitar impression I've ever heard.
>>
>>65864714
Listen to dream pop instead.

Loveless might be the best shoegaze album, but it's nowhere near the best dream pop album.
>>
>>65864566
I love that track
it's my favorite for driving down the highway at night
>>
Hey what's the shoegaze equivalent of Busdriver?
Like overtly technical and jokey.
There probably wouldn't be cause those things are like the opposite of the things that make up shoegaze.
But if there is, that would be cool.
>>
>>65864566
This is definitely an amazing track. Lots of Bowery Electric gives me the same vibes. Dive also a few similar tracks like 3.00 AM Flow, Coma Dub and Shore Cosmos Pacifica.

>>65864714
Loveless is not the endgame. If you want to hear something that sounds exactly like My Bloody Valentine, check out the album Matador is Dead by The Earth Earth. Same style hooks and riffs, older pop style like early mbv and great use of feedback for both transitioning riffs and larger buildups.
Also the album mbv is kinda underrated. It's an extremely cohesive album that was slammed a little too harsh by people here when it came out.

>>65864309
No problem, I listen to lots of asian shoegaze.

>>65861052
Love that track. A timeless classic.

The guitar tone on the bridges in this track are impeccable, esp. for 1965.

I tried listening to loveless
I liked the opening track
then i got kinda bored and the harsh sounds put me off

how do i get into this kind of music?
>>
>>65867461
>loveless
>harsh
If you think this, try dream pop. Broadcast and Melody's Echo Chamber are often recommended together as good neo-psych/dream pop groups.

It's definitely not that harsh, at least in comparison to artists like cosmicdust, astrobrite and medicine. If you want to keep trying out shoegaze, try Swirlies or luminoussuperorangeplastic by Luminous Orange. What You've Done and Chapter 22 are particularly good off that album.
>>
So I guess the new The White Tulips is a rerelease, but it's still pretty damn good.

>>
>>65867461
Listen to Slowdive's Souvlaki, then Ride's Nowhere, then SPC ECO's 3D.

Repeat like 5 times, and then give Loveless another go.
>>
>>65869163
As a diehard fan of the genre, I don't like any of these albums. Why do they standout to most people? Genuinely curious, not trying to be rude.

I've always thought mbv was stronger than Ride and Slowdive.

bump with some SUPER SEXY vocaloid
https://youtu.be/41zr9dFk87M
>>
>>65869801
They're just kind of a big part of the foundation of shoegaze. The rep comes from the influence. Also they're good.
>>
>>65869801
Souvlaki and Nowhere are less shoegaze and more dream pop or jangle pop/alt rock while Loveless is pretty much the definitive shoegaze. I like the former albums not particularly for the shoegazey aspects but more for the fun.
>>
>>65861644
LSD and the Search for God, pinkshinyultrablast, Pity Sex, and Nothing all had good releases this year.

I'm actually sitting waiting for Nothing to come on right now. Should be good.

>>
>>65870393
Yeah, foundation or influence or whatever. You say they are good so say why. Let's have a dialogue here.

Personally I have nothing to say. Definitely not bad albums, but they accomplish nothing for me. Time for a relisten.

>>
>>65871941
Fav tracks off Tired for Tomorrow are probably Vertigo Flowers, ACD, and Eaten by Worms.
>>
>>65871941
>That is why you would recommend them?
I'm a different person. Nowhere is absolutely a fun album. Seagull, Kaleidoscope, Polar Bear, and Vapor Trail are almost The Smiths-esque though less cheery. Souvlaki is less "fun" but still a very solid album. Alison is one of the best dream pop songs ever imo

How come? I consider it to be one of MBV's best. It's easily their most psychedelic and dizzying song and whatever "unfocusedness" it has just adds to that.

>>65872478
There are definitely some tracks on those albums that are great. Polar Bear has a nice groove and beat that are unmatched by many rock/pop songs.

>>65872607
It's a stand out track and hopefully it influences artists in the future. mbv has all sorts of these tracks that span varying styles while still clearly coming from the same place. Glider, Tremolo are so goddamn underrated with these sort of tracks as a result of Loveless and YMMR taking all the spotlight.
>>
>>65872371

It's sampled guitar feedback made to sound like a flute.
>>
>>65874390
These two are some of the best of the genre. Lilys Eccsame the Photon Band is more rock, but I still get a lot of the same feels. The songs are very disjointed in structure with about half of them delving into ambient/drone for no apparent intended reason. I lay down to this sometimes.

Have you listened to the entire Astrobrite discog? Cortez consistently makes good albums.
>>
>>65875523
Ok I figured it was either supposed to be a flute or a violin. Thanks anon
>>
>>65860970
Has anyone listened to the new Starflyer 59 album, Slow?
>>
>>65875523
I didn't know it was a guitar. For feedback it's very smooth. Medicine's feedback riffs are much more aggressive and harsh.
>>
>>65875564
I gave it a listen. It's not shoegaze at all but the songs are alright. Nothing on the album has a ton of emotional weight like the stuff he was writing on albums like Gold, but they're pleasant and melancholy. He even said himself in an interview that this is the only album he went in without a clear vision first, just making unrelated songs. He even said that some of them aren't that good, he was just making what he felt like making. Also at some point he says, "I love you rong time".

>>65875583
Yeah, for that song and maybe for others, I'm not sure, they recorded some feedback and put it through a sampler to play like a keyboard.
>>
>>65875620
There are a lot of songs on Isn't Anything that I think obscure the guitar with out any kind of sampling. Lots of detail went into the recording processes clearly. They are all good, what a lovely band.

https://qiiisnacksrecords.bandcamp.com/album/episode-01

>>65882845
I really like this. I don't think it's too noisey, but I can take a lot. The distortion has a nice crunch. As for the mixing, I feel the low-mid is a little high which makes it feel a bit muddy. That may be part why it doesn't feel subtle. It'd be nice for the treble to pop a bit more. I like the songwriting. Is there only that part at the end with the vocals?
>>
>>65882990
Cheers man, what vocals though? I haven't added any yet lmao
It's basically 3 songs in one (well first one is in progress, other two are just intros since I wanted to experiment with ideas)

I'll definitely take the mixing tips into account! I think I'm going for a 'floating aimlessly through space in a meditative state' type of aesthetic
>>
>>65883076
Lol, I mistook the tremelol picking at the end for vocals because it sounds so close to the range of Neige's voice. I was confused why only the end would have vocals. If you end up adding vocals it might be a good idea to raise the tremelo picking an octave to add seperation and decrease muddiness. Both classic bm screams and clean vocals would work in this, don't you think?
>>
>>65883364
Oh for sure, that's the plan. screams and cleans with some reverb and shit.

I like asian shoegaze. The new, soon to be released (the release date I don't fucking know) The White Tulips EP will be released on the same label/bandcamp as this group.
>>
>>65862267
What a dull obvious cash grab.
There's no point in new Lush material if they don't evolve at all.
>>
>>65886292
mbv didn't really evolve much with a few exceptions, but that turned out pretty well

But yeah, I doubt they'd have reunited if shoegaze wasn't currently in such a revival phase. I'm not entirely sure I'd call it a cash grab considering it's just an EP, but they'll be getting those festivalbux in no time.

Most shoegaze doesn't evolve. Bands clone each other all the time. A huge part of what has been making the Japanese scene work is the effort to try and fit in and conform to shoegaze standards rather than aim for grandoise experimentation.
>>
>>65882533
Have you listened to APTBS? They have the drum machine shoegaze thing going, with industrial undertones, but they're much harsher and cross over to pick pretty often. They're also pretty well known around here so you might know them too.
>>
>>65876214
Share links, anyone?
>>
Has anyone tried to make symphonic shoegaze yet
>>
>>65887087
spiritualized but they're barely shoegaze
>>
>>65887087
Not really no.
>>
>>65886527
But Lush always seemed to have a sound that was unique within their scene. And I'd consider them to be one of the originators, so it's not like they're copying anything to fit into shoegaze. It just seems wrong to make something that you had pretty much already made so long ago.

Those are the 2 "entry" songs that get you into Loveless. Just keep listening to anything in the genre, and eventually, you should like the whole album, and songs from the album even more than those 2.

not sure how to feedback but i like it
maybe the drums are a little stiff, i know they're electronic but i guess there are times in the song (mostly during drum fills) where it feels like the sounds of the drums should feel more powerful, although i do like that sounds you're using.

>>65922664
I'm seeing them perform Pink in August. Hope they do a shoegaze thing or something during an encore maybe.
>>
>>65922664
Damn, I'm jealous. I've seen Boris twice, will see them again in August and they haven't/won't be playing it. Wata's solo rendition of Rainbow was pretty fucking amazing though.
>>
>>65922983
Where are you seeing them? SLC here. I hope for an encore as well, but they played some of their best tracks back the first time I saw them in Japan so I won't complain if they don't. If I recall correctly they didn't play an encore the first time and the second time they apologized to us for not having an encore.
>>
>>65923048
I'm seeing them in San Francisco. I've never seen them before, I can only expect really good shit though.
>>
>>65923214
The first time I saw them was the loudest show I've been to. Don't where earplugs if you want the real tones, but wearing them will save a lot of trouble. I stood in front of takeshi and his double neck and it ruined my hearing for about 3 days.

Do think they close with Farewell on this tour? They closed with it before and I'm not sure how that would feel opening with it live. After getting worked up over Just Abandoned My-self it'd be nice to hear Farewell.

Boris do not play any of those genre's. They're a Stoner Metal/Drone band. None of their albums are ever solely or even close to being a majority Shoegaze/Dream Pop/ or Black metal. Not even remotely.

Wasn't really into it. It suffers from lack of production. Like the quality is just awful. I might be into it if it sounded cleaner but as is it's kinda just a mess to me.

Episode 2 I got ya tho. If it happens. It better happen.
