brian wilsons version is finished, so imo listen to that. it remains very faithful to the smile sessions, and the tracks on the brian version flow together better. the sessions is almost as great, only not there quite bc its not finished. They both are mind blowing and so ahead of their time, but i reccomend the brian version.

Brian Wilson - SMiLE: This is Brian Wilson trying to fulfill the vision he had for the album, he recorded new vocal tracks and instrumentation for it.
Personally I prefer The Beach Boys - Smile Sessions since it has the original feel and sound but it really doesnt feel that finished

listen to the fan mixes as well, the Smile project has transcended album form at this stage no point limiting yourself.
I recommend the MQR mix, which uses some instrumentation from BWPS to supplement the material from the 60s. Plus it has a mind-blowing 7 minute version of H&V

don't listen to this. download the 3971 edit. it's an edit that combines the smile sessions (original beach boys '67 recordings) with some of the finished 2004 ones. it uses the originals wherever possible but when the only thing available is the 2004 version it uses that.
