Keyboards are still very used in various styles of metal music, though. It's an essential instrument in a lot of european and japanese styles of metal, and is very much essential to styles of progressive metal, power metal, epic/funeral doom metal, atmo-black metal and some styles of avant-garde metal
If you look past the fantastic guitar playing in the link below, the keyboardist is absolutely insane at times. It's a shame because the lead guitarist tend to overpower the keyboardist.
