Guitar Hero III is better if you just like playing guitar and are looking for something really challenging, but Rock Band 2 is comfy as fuck and has a great song list plus an incredible selection of DLC.
RB2 had the better guitar and drum charts but I preferred 3s soundtrack easily
I wouldn't mind to get back into this game and make use of the $200 + I must have spent on the damn dlc

in gh3 the songs are fucking ridiculously hard but the hammer on timing is really loose, which is why its fun for me
Rock Band 4 wasn't that bad. I like the tracklist, but there was no reason to remove the pro guitar and especially the keyboard. You could make the case that Rocksmith made the pro guitar obsolete, but the keys were unique and fun, and a lot of the recent DLC are synth-heavy pop songs that could really use the keyboard.
Shame the PC version funding failed. That would have been fun.

In fact, why the hell did THIS thing exist? The Beatles Rock Band was fine, and they have a strong, varied tracklist. But Green Day have much less potential for variation than The Beatles, and there are barely any songs outside of Dookie and American Idiot, which makes it get boring even faster.

It's not terrible but it's not as good as 2 or 3. It also takes out all the new features that 3 brought except for Pro Drums. And because it's the only Rock Band game you can play on the XBox One, just being mediocre is a big disappointment.

This game will always have a soft spot in my heart because before it I never really cared for music, but this game convinced me to learn how to play guitar, get into music, know theory well enough to do all the composing/arranging/transposing/orchestrating/etc. in the world, compose both on sheet and using DAWs, go to shows, and eventually learn a couple other instruments.
Basically who I am as a musician and a music fan today started because of this game, and I love it for doing that for me.

It's not a direct 1:1 translation. Obviously some songs use more than 3 cymbals and 3 toms, but also for some reason the open hi-hat uses a different cymbal than the closed hi-hat.
