I don't know what to think of this band. They have an interesting concept, power electronics/harsh noise hip-hop/rap, but they don't employ that concept well. They make shitty run of the mill trap rap type stuff with occasional shots of noise. I wish they were better. I guess I'm spoiled with Death Grips as far as experimental hip-hop goes so my expectations are high.

Cover got me hyped thinking it would be abrasive as fuck. Finishing the last track as type this, I'm kinda bummed. I love clipping but so much of the time im listening to them I'm thinking "this is really good, but damn, if they just pushed things a liiiiitle harder..."
Back Up and Wriggle were definitely the best tracks, the beat for Back Up possibly being one of the best clipping beats thus far in my opinion. Intro was definitely cool and always a good way to start release, but I'm glad Daveed's singing on Our Time was short-lived. Not feelin' that.
Also, Shooter was literally Work Work part 2. Boring beat and almost identical flows. Come on man, you're a better rapper than that.
Definitely going to revisit this for some tracks but I really hope clipping push things to the next level on whatever comes next from them.

I thought the same aboout CLPPNG, I was hoping the bonus track Brian would have been indicative of the direction they're going but no.
CLPPNG grew on me though, and right away I'm liking Wriggle more than when I heard CLPPNG for the first time
the only thing similar about clipping and DG are abrasive sounds and rapping. The rapping, topics, sonic textures, overall energy, and approach to music are completely different. To me clipping have always been more traditionally hip hop in the creation of their tracks. Heavy sampling with (to some degree) traditional sampling techniques; ie, finding a sample, chopping it however, adding percussion and layers, then having a dude rap over it.
My perception of Death Grips is more or less a few guys just playing crazy shit and letting loose more in the vein of a "conventional band" I guess. Far more primal and animalistic than the somewhat carefully composed and thought-out nature of clipping.

Also prior to seeing Death Grips I thought about how cool it would be to see them with clipping opening. After seeing Death Grips and them playing literally nonstop with full energy for an hour straight I realized clipping would probably be quite boring in a live setting in comparison.
I actually love this EP so far
Clipping is really more about their sound than their lyricism and I'm really digging some of these instrumentals. And Daveed's speed and flow is ridiculous as always
I really enjoyed this and I think this is signaling a turning point for them. Clppng was considerably more accessible than midcity and this release is at times a step further in that direction. However if they weren't going to bring some harsh ass textures they wouldn't have wanted to reference whitehouse like they did. I think and hope this ep is a farewell to the poppier sound of Clppng before returning, or further exploring, the harsher sound they started with and also show that they haven't lost it.

This is actually a very mature summation of these two bands that I agree with fully. It sucks that no one will reply to posts like this and instead just spam the thread with memes and buzzword-insults like "faux-noise" "edgy" and "cringe" so that all the teenagers can get bum blasted and lamely try to defend their taste.
I love the difference between the two and I definitely agree that Clipping might be boring-ish live up against the likes of Zach Hill pounding away on the kit and Stefan jumping around. Also, because of these differences I like Clipping better for doing homework and chilling with while DG is something I actively listen to.
