The album I'm working on is legitimately the best thing ever. How do I get it out there/find fans of the type of music I make/get a record deal?
>>
Bamp
>>
what do you make
>>
I'm in the same boat. No idea.
>>
if it's so good the record labels will come to you
>>
Get a bandcamp.
If your music is actually good, you'll garner more and more listeners.
Play anywhere you can.
>>
>>65615578
I love that movie man. Better than The Seventh Seal.
>>
>>65615578
i doubt it but i hope you make it
>>
>>65616365
Mix of Folk, Orchestral, Post Rock, Jazz, and Ambient. Bit electronic too. Currently experimenting with choral music and organs.

>>65616414
Got one. I think the issue is the music is a bit too out for most of my friends and family to be interested, and they're the only real people I can reach directly at this point.

>>65616431
I love it too. Probably my favourite film

You're a big Bergman fan, I see :3
>>
>>65616734
Yeah... want to use a still from his films for each album I make, ideally
>>
>>65616756
that's pretty cool
>>
>>65615578
the ''best'' is subjective, if you want fans look for people listen to the genres you like
>>
>>65616682
That's first track is pretty sweet. Not a fan of how distant and reverby the guitar in the first track sounds, wish it was much clearer in the mix

>>65616773
And Chime Hour is interesting, but I can't get behind the seemingly random dissonance of the chopped up woman's vocals over the top of the great instrumentation
>>
>>65616776
That's from Winter Light right? I like that cover even more
>>
>>65616633
>Orchestral
Not a genre of music, just an adjective.
>babby puts cheesy string sections on his folk album for the lauded honor of highbrow bandcamp relevance
Good luck with that record deal lol.
>>
Idk if social media accounts help. send demos to labels you think will sign you too maybe. I'm in the same boat, I just broke ground on new music the last few weeks but I'm extremely happy with it (nothing like yours tho)
>>
>>65616902
Can you link yours anon?
>>
>>65616776
shitty album cover desu, doesn't look very appealing
put something sex related as the cover, that way you can atract more listeners
>>
>>65616851
You obviously haven't listened to it

>>65616838
Er, well a Chime Hour in English Folklore is a time when you're able to see ghosts, and I wanted to create that kind of atmosphere, like walking through a forest and encountering a spirit, or some shit.

Yes it is!

What the fuck MODS? This is advertising shit
>>
You won't know how good it actually is, until it's done. Until it's done, it's ideas, it's potential. Once it's done, that's it. If it's actually good you won't need to market yourself too much anyway, and if it isn't that'll become clear to you in time
>>
>>65617065
There are probably hundreds of pubs looking for acts within 20km of you unless you live in Sleddale Hall or some shit like that hahaha

You should take like a week and e-mail literally all the pubs you can and play in every single one that wants you. After you play those gigs, repeat step 1.
>>
>>65617065
I am serious about the sexy thing, try making a cover that's subtle and not obvious clickbait and I guarantee you it will help you get your music out

t.world famous musician
>>
>>65617213
If you are one of those anxious faggots like me take some beta blockers before the gig.

It basically prevents the effects from anxiety like racing heart, that weird feeling on your throat, the hotness in your face. Since anxiety is basically a feedback interaction between negative thoughts and physical anxiety symptoms, if you take one element out of the feedback loop it can help you.
>>
>>65617463
Which one do you like best? Is it Persona?
>>
>>65615578
Get a soundloud, get a bandcamp, post in their respective threads on here, tell your friends, give it to people you know, play at local venues, anything you can do.

>>65617403
If you don't think that you're own music is the best thing ever then why fucking bother making it?
>>

Winter Light isn't babby's first Bergman bro. That's Seventh Seal

>>
get gigs anywhere you can, make a bandcamp, get a small seal or something, make a clip.
my friend has a gig at the street in front of a cheap pub today, it's a way to start, lots of people go etc. though it goes nicely with the lo-fi underground proposal.
>>
>>65616682
>https://thecartridgefamily1.bandcamp.com/releases
pretty awful and generic. no one will want to hear it
>>
>>65617590
It's not delusion.
Why would you write/lay music if you don't think you have something to offer?
Especially in the genre that OP is going for which is (hopefully not OP included) full of pompous pricks.
>>
>>65617652
Yeah this is sound advice, but my music is really difficult to perform life, especially if you're not making money. I need to write some material that's stripped down and achievable solo for a life environment, I think

There's a world of difference between making music that you're proud of and you think is good and calling it "the best shit ever."
>>
>>65617590
He's right though, if you don't think you're offering something to people that they haven't already had, something that puts you above what similar artists are doing, then it's probably not worth putting out.

You could attempt it with a backing track of the ambient parts and add some new string/vocal sections. Encouraging any future fans to go to you live for new shit.
>>
>>65617754

>>65617739
1. It's already been done before and better than you'll ever do it. It's a fact: there will always be someone better than you.
2. Having your head so far up your ass to believe that you're the best makes you an arrogant cunt.
>>

>>
>>65617678
>Why would you write/lay music if you don't think you have something to offer?
because of the inherent joy in it? i love making music its my favorite thing to do. i have made music im happy with. but saying its the "best shit ever" is retarded.
>>
>>65617803
I don't mind criticism at all, I really welcome it. But calling it 'generic' is unhelpful, and I happen to disagree. If you want to show me a ton of examples of similar things then I'll agree with you
>>
>>65617754
Yeah I know guys that have like a sampler or some shit and just play the guitar (or bass sometimes) parts and sing.

Like this for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKpwIVY0Vxw
>>
>>65617777
No problem.
But you should also set up a facebook/twitter page and you'll show up as reccomendations and on apps that show gig dates. More free advertisement and publicity.
>>

Should've stuck with plays. All his films feel like plays anyway.
>>

I've been wanting to make a thread like this.

How do I find a producer to work with me?
And how can I get people to contribute to my music?
I was thinking of asking /mu/ to sing up back-up vocals, or do back-up instrumentation.
And fuck a record label. I want to own all of my music and plan to release through Bandcamp.

My genres are hip-hop and pop.

Also gig like there's no tomorrow, it's also a good way to make connections. You're only 6 people away from success, that's the golden rule and it's true for people like us.

It could be refined a little more though, but that'll come with time. Even the GOATs weren't refined until later.

So you're only 6 mutuals away from knowing someone who's successful and can help you. Which is why it's really important you have connections and meet people.
For example me, I didn't know until a few years ago but I'm only two close mutuals away from a very very famous artist and an easily get in touch with them. And I'm just your average music producer Joe.

>>
>>65619552
>just a little more humble which might indicate you're a more likeable person
Not really, just a socially anxious perfectionist. It really sucks and discourages you when you listen to something you made and think to yourself "what the fuck, I thought this sounded so good but now that I listen to it, it's the worst thing ever, I fucking suck". It's like when I sing, people tell me I have a fine voice and it sounds good to me in the moment but when I actually listen to it recorded I want to kill myself. This way of thinking is probably what separates the succesful artists from the unsuccesful ones. Oh well.
>>
>>65619611
I agree with you. I don't know why you'd want to steal a still from a film to use as an album cover. Seems very lazy and uninspired.
>>
>>65619611
Not really, I found an image that suited what I wanted to create perfectly, so I used it. To go out and take an inferior picture would be a pointless errand

Is Eno unambitious because he used a Tom Phillips painting?

Is your music all made by you. Like, how did you get those strings on Chime Hour?

You have some cool ideas, but the album isn't cohesive and your sound is pretentious. It's unrefined experimental music, prime example bing The Clearing.

You sample the intro to a Spirtualized song and then recontextualize it with some ameteur drum programming. It doesn't sound good, if your going to reuse such a recognizable sample the new context you provide must jive well.

Some of the songs also have some atonal samples that heighten the pretentious nature of the sound. Experimental music is either made by those without experience or those with an abundance. Keep working, get your head out of your ass and you might make some good shit.

I'll take a ticket

I wouldn't bother;

If you can't solve the first problem of gaining recording interest there's no point other than for your own creativity.

Art has a strange way of skewering markets. It is sad when artists starve to death, but... maybe they touch a greatness Kanye or Beck will never reach?
