Listen to Burning Spear, early Twinkle Brothers, Ijahman Levi or the Abyssinians instead. Marley was really as good as his backing band was.

Yes.
A lot more.
Really, a lot of elements of current music came from it in one way or another.
Not to mention that without King Tubby, concepts like remixes would not exist. Arguably one of the most important producers in history alo ng with Eno or Phil Spector.
You can also thank reggae for showing the world bass was more than some light rythmic support.
