Anyone got suggestions for some good prog Rock bands
Gentle Giant
prog peaked with vdgg gentle giant king crimson and yes anything else after that is just flat out chamber music or shit derived from those bands
>>65589615
Been really digging this lately
>>65589674
>tfw this is their best album
>>65589675

I suppose your favorite prog bands are Coheed and Wolfmother too right
>>65589674
Care to share?
>>65590014
Are you fucking with us right now?
Mike Oldfield, except he's not a band

>>65590608

>>65590608
lets be honest here they are just as bad as each other
>>65589736
Coheed is really good but Wolfmother kinda bores me to death
this album rules
>>65590994
kys
>>65590533
I don't really like this one too much, it's perhaps one of their most harmonically complex but it doesn't have the songs IMO.
>>65591098
explain why each of those albums is not prog
>>65589674
/bread
king crimson is good. especially their first album.
>>65590533
Free hand is the best one
>>65591086
Really? To me, it's the only GG album where I absolutely adore every song, even the bonus track that ruins the point of Valedictory
>>65589736
You're a pretentious faggot and retarded if you think it's not prog.
>>65590994
>Soft Machine
>Not good
What's wrong with you? Can't appreciate ten minutes of unconventional noise in your 20 minute prog songs?

>>65591342
where would mike oldfield be on your chart?
>>65591333
Trips of truth. Very underrated.
>>65591338
I do not understand the love for Genesis. Yes, some of their songs are absolutely incredible but usually their albums are 3/4ths shit.
Foxtrot has Watcher of the Sky and Supper's Ready but everything else is garbage
>>65591098
Holy Christ, you really are mentally challenged.
queen, styx the list goes on
>>65589736
Have you actually given them a fair listen? They're in a completely different league from those bands and they're undoubtedly prog.
>>65591365
god fuck no
the S/T has some moments from Holdsworth and Bruford but that one is proto-Asia
>>65591342
elp?
>>65590533
Not saying Octopus is just contrarianism. I still have a soft spot for that one though because it's my first.
>>65591393
between great and good
>>65591408
No. They're both great albums. Eddie Jobson on keys and electronic violin are just incredible. Bruford or Terry Bozzio on drums. Wetton fresh out of King Crimson.

listen to this
>My favorites, in no particular order
Yes - Fragile
Rush - Hemispheres
Genesis - Foxtrot
Jethro Tull - Thick As a Brick
King Crimson - ItCotCK
ELP - Tarkus
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Pink Floyd - DSotM
I guess I have to check out vdgg
>>65591408
>hating asia
I bet you think that 90125 isn't a good album too
>>65590177
bye
>>65589615
You should get some Unicorn Porn.
>>65591432
Emerson, Lake and Palmer
>>65591511
you've been posting this for a year now
>>65591333
I agree
Procol Harum and Moody Blues are both underappreciated prog groups
>>65591483
it's mediocre, way better than Asia which might be the biggest waste of talent in human history
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD9B3AtUW24
Kinda goofy but still a good listen if you're into prog and uh... space.
>>65591535
Does it make you angry that I own most of the Asia albums and 80s Yes albums?
>>65591098
>Gentle Giant
>Power and the Glory
>Not prog
It's like the proggiest album that ever progged for fuck's sake
>>65590163
I don't get it
>>65591098
same
>>65591481
Start out with Pawn Hearts and then go on to Godbluff if you end up liking it
VdGG are a bit harder to get into than most prog bands, but definitely worth it
>>65591523
I listened to Days of Future Passed and thought it fucking sucked, are there other albums better or different in style or should I just not bother?
>>65591432
the guy in run the jewels
>>65591571
why would I care? at least some of them have Roger Dean covers
>>65591523
Definitely. I also think that Crime of the Century by Supertramp is considerably underrated.
>>65591632
If you know all the standard prog here is some lesser known stuff.
In my opinion this is one of the greatest albums of century so far.

>>65591640
Supertramp is incredible. Breakfast in America is great too.
>>65591522
That's cause it's good.
>>65591675
It is, but it's not prog.
>>65591621
Thanks. I'll give it a listen
This band is from Russia, releases like 2-3 albums a year, just awesome
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZM2mMjDaWk
>>65591646
He has non-hip hop stuff friend. A jazz/prog album I believe?
This place has a hate on for tool, but it's really undignified.
Listen to tool.
>>65591672
Oh god, the memories
This was the first prog album I ever listened to (if you dont count dark side of the moon). The Weirding is a really cool song, but I found the rest of the album to be lacking
this is worth listening to even if you don't like most meal
>>65591675
>>65591640
I prefer even in the quietest moments I can't think of catchier music
>>65591672
The River Under is such a good song. Definitely one of the best albums of this century
>>65591784
This is barely prog most of it sounds like Britpop with fiddly bits
Anybody listened to this album? It's a little unpolished in spots, but its super creative and the songwriting is fantastic. Definitely one of my favorites
