>>
>>65558395

Came with the Duncan JB/59 set (those are the pickups in the photo). I swapped them out for a Manlius Vinyl in the bridge, which is a T-Top overwound to 8.2k, and a Duncan Whole Lotta Humbucker in the neck.

It's a pretty versatile pairing. A lot of dynamic range on both pickups and they play nice in the middle position.

Guitar noob here, looking for a "so distorted you can barely even hear what the fuck he's playing" sorta tone, something similar to what Neil had here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm8yEN8BU4A

Do I have to chain a bunch of distortion pedals or something? Would that even have any effect past the first pedal?

That's an octave fuzz ramming electricity into a super cranked Fender Deluxe. The lower note makes it sound much more distorted than it really is. If you listen closely you can isolate the original signal and while it's very distorted it's not ridiculously so.

Is that your setup? How's the DS-1, I've been thinking about getting it. And the BMP is something I've heard good things about, though there isn't one going near me for cheap so I'm waiting on it.

I'm going to have to look up what an octave fuzz is.

>>65558751
There are plenty of used pedals for that price, sure. The problem is that I'm rather new to all of this and don't really know which ones are the good ones. And the pedals that I know are good (at least, supposedly) are all out of my poorfag student budget.
>>
>>65558813
Yeah those are some of my pedals. Depending on your sound and style I'd look into stuff other than the DS1, but I've always been an amp distortion guy. Boss makes solid stuff and if you do get the DS1 you should hot rod it.

I'm still in the process of actually learning how to play, so I'm ways from actually developing a sound or style, though I do have a general idea of the sort of music I want to play, and it's basically Sabbath but heavier and slower. So I'm looking for ways to develop a tone that sounds adequately heavy.

I have a Laney Ironheart (pretty sure Iommi uses Laney now) but yeah if that's the kind of music youll be playing I'd get something a bit simpler and less modern. There's plenty of choices for small heads and an orange 2x12 with a decent fuzz pedal will get you monster tone.

Still, a very harmless damage that this anon cries about all day.

I like the Ibanez ones a bit more (I&W, Awake, Scenes) but I prefer his tone on the Music Man. Really would love to get a set of the original pickups that came in early models of this guitar, some say they are still the best.
>Seems like he has more endorsements than nearly any other guitarist now.
He makes good stuff where it counts, disregarding obvious cash-ins like the strap. The wah seems to be quite nice, pickups are some of the better Dimarzios available, the guitars are all good and the Mesa amp is god tier.

Superstrat is a loosely defined term based around a concept or ethos rather than a single specific design. The first true Superstrat was Eddie's Frankenstein and that was a 1HB Strat with a normal Fender trem. Other designs were built from that and different features came later.

Some Gibsons are very good, some aren't worth it. Some are destroyed by the "copies". I'd try one before buying for sure.
>>
>>65561325
Depends on the model.
I wouldn't pay 3k for one, but paying 1k or so for a standard is good value, and studios go for cheap.
My studio was 500 (used), and it's an excellent guitar, way better than I expected gibsons to be.
Definetly try before buying of course.

I'm more of a Fender fanboy like many here, so even with all the LP problems (weight, lack of comfort), I'm surprised I like it so much.

I'm thinking about learning the guitar, and I've been wondering about the best kind to start off - acoustic, classical, or electric. I've heard opinions about all three of these being the best starting point for various reasons, and I thought I'd get your take on this as well, fellas.
>>
>>65561692
if you want to play wonderwall and get pussy play acoustic
if you want to make music or just shred like a faggot play an electric
>>
>>65561692
Acoustic or classical with nylon strings in the easiest to start on. The strings are easier on your fingers and you can build callouses and learn the basics then switch to electric to learn techniques like pinch harmonics, bends and such.
>>
>>65561692
The correct answer is whichever one you're most interested in playing.
>>
>>65561761

>>
>>65561815
>>65561843
That's what was easiest for me. Somebody starting from scratch on the guitar is going to a hard time playing over an hour on steel strings.
>>
>>65561815
So you have tiny hands?
>>
>>65561756
I just want to learn. Shredding like a faggot and/or pussy will hopefully come later. And where does classical guitar fit into your scale?

>>65561761
My fingers are already pretty rough from doing tons of landscaping with my bare hands. Also, aren't acoustics supposed to be even harder on fingers than electrics?

>>65561797
I'm just interested in learning to play guitar in general. As far as music goes, I'm equally interested in learning something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRRGYEFZF4A as well as something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8MdBHQt7lc.
>>
What are the best brands for pedals/effects in your opinion?
>>
>>65561940
don't bother with classical, literaly the most boring instrument in existence
I recomend you start with an electric, the strings are soft and comfy, it's more fun to play than an acoustic and you have more options overall
>>
>>65561692
Get a above entry level electric if you wanna learn how to play. Save for an amp later unless you're not poor. If you buy a starter pack you'll def need to buy an upgrade sooner. This >>65561756 is solid advice tho. And this >>65561815. Electrics are easier to set up and if you're not a little whiny baby you won't mind a little redness on your fingertips.
>>
>>65561990
The ones whose pedal schematics you can find online and replicate identically for 1/50th of the price.
>>
>>65560060
>The first true Superstrat was Eddie's Frankenstein
Wrong, Michael Hampton of Parliament-Funkadelic. David Schecter and Grover Jackson were were making parts for shitty CBS Fenders in the 70's. All before Eddie's monstrosity showed up.
>>
>>65561940
Paul Gilbert is the fucking man. I love all his solo stuff and Mr. Big and Racer X are criminally underrated.

Back to your playing: it's not the toughness of your hands that matter, it's all about the strength and dexterity of your fingertips. Pressing down hard on those steel strings will hurt if you haven't been doing it for a while . That's where the nylon strings come in, they're much easier on your fingers. The action on an acoustic might be higher but if you're using nylon strings it won't matter.
>>

You should've gone the next step and cut the large horn too, give it a vox teardrop shape.

Looks kinda awkward like that.

Also, what's with the headstock? Is it a real fender?

The thing that slightly worries me about acoustics is that they supposedly have bigger necks, and I have inherited these fucking tiny womanly hands from my mother, so my pinky is seriously short, and my other fingers aren't that grand either. I wish I had fingers like Gilbert or Buckethead, but I don't, and there isn't much I can do about it. I actually tried to learn the piano when I was a kid, but I couldn't play it properly because of my hands and fingers. Could this potentially fuck me over while trying to learn guitar?

The cheapest used one you can find in your local pawn shop or on ebay. All the cheap ones are gonna sound like shit anyway, and so will you, until you get the basics. When that time comes, you'll have saved up enough money to get something decent. No point in blowing money on something that you might not even have interest in a few months down the line.

Also, left hand master race represent. Bitches get wet just by seeing me flip my Strat upside down like Jimi before I start playing.

>>
>>65562622
>Am i fucked?
Pretty much, unless you get a lucky break and some lefty decides to quit music. Lefty guitars are already hard enough to come by in the second hand market. Well, decent ones anyway. Basses are even more rare. Still, what you could do is look up some good brands and check out their economy line basses, then find out which ones come in lefty flavor. And pray that you'll find one of those on ebay near you.

Just don't be tempted with getting some 50$ chink shit, even if it's brand new. Cheap guitars/basses are cheap for a reason, and if that reason isn't because they're used, then you'd best stay the fuck away.

Should I get the Squier Standard Tele ($250) or would it be worth it to spend the extra money on a G&L Tribute ASAT Classic ($500, pic related)?
