Richard is a blagger.
>>
>>65556417
CCAIP2 was a little drukqs
>>
Eh sounds alright but we've heard the best tracks already so this release is pretty bullshit, relax though lads, torrent this one and don't be mad, then stay tune for his next releases, gnna blow a few minds with those ones I reckon, better than Druqks he said. MFM, Sonar track aswell. Relax.
>>
>>65556276
seriously, he's not even trying anymore
>>
Drums in 2X202 sounds like Windowlicker, however listening to that reminds me how bland this stuff is in comparison, Windowlicker is such a next level masterpiece and this stuff seems like hes just twiddling some knobs to a drum machine. Rich pls.
>>
i don't necessarily want a return to drukqs but i do wish i felt like i was being taken on a journey full of twists and turns during an afx track. drukqs obviously had a lot of that, as did tuss, and there were a few examples of it on syro, but they were kinda mellow in comparison.

maybe he's just older now and is content with starting with a single idea (i.e rhythm, sound pallete, etc) for a track and then fleshing it out. maybe he feels less pressure to constantly be changings things up for the sake of being ~IDM wow i like those fast bits :)~.

these cheetah tracks in particular have a kind of jammy vibe to them, i can picture him controlling these live as opposed to going into full autism mode w/ micro-detail etc. he's 44, i can't blame him if he doesn't care to spend hours and hours programming drukqs-style tracks anymore
>>
>>65556603
Got to admit tho the ambient one is tickling my Pineal gland, pretty nice that one, I like the saw wave that sounds like someone singing, pretty dope. I'm sure they will all grow on me in time.
>>
>>65556620
>he's 44, i can't blame him

Wrong. He should be better than ever now.
>>
>>65556620
Yeah yeah I know what you mean, he does seem to like the simpler ones, however don't count him out completely, I'm sure eventually he will release a proper album full of all the meticulous detail we all love, what else would he spend his days doing up in Scotland.

Drukqs (Warp, 2001) is a double-disc tour de force that spans all of James' stages, from the Selected Ambient music (Jynweythek Ylow, Omgyjya Switch 7) to his creative art of the beat (Ziggomatic V17, Taking Control).
Ostensibly inspired by Erik Satie and John Cage, the album includes computer-controlled piano sonatas.
No track stands out and the reason is that all tracks are played in a rather mainstream manner and unusual ideas have been streamlined to produce easier-sounding music.
His stature as an innovator has greatly diminished over the years and this album proves that there is little more than hype to sustain his charisma. His ventures into trip-hop (Orban Eq Trx 4) or jungle (54 Cymru Beats) pale compared with dance-music intellectuals like Spring Heel Jack or Squarepusher. James invests quite a bit in piano-based avant-classical compositions, but new-age music has been more successful in advancing Satie's century-old intuitions.
This album is at the same time too much and too little: it tries to diversify in so many different directions, but ultimately it offers little of substance in each of the different directions. It is not a surprise that so many reviews of this album dealt with the song titles rather than with the music.

it would be nice if he progressed The Tuss's sound past Syro. otherwise I agree.
>>
>>65556826
Yeah, first Analords came out in 2004 and it's more than decade of same shit now. I'm not saying it cancels the brilliance of his former releases in any way, but it's tired as fuck now and never was particularly impressive.

In the middle of all this he released The Tuss and that was something cool and promising, but nope, fucking Syro another few years later is all I got.

I thought Syro sounded half-assed, and was expecting a bit more of a cohesive album that was worthy of his status as a forward-thinker.

Then came Computer Controlled Electronic Instruments, and I thought "oh, it's actually getting even MORE perfunctory"

Then came Deejay Selek, and I thought "well, it's a side-project and it's not meant to be taken seriously"

Now this new piece of shit, and I'm starting to wonder if people are right about the fact that he was just a smartass who managed to fool everyone.
>>
>>65557089
breakcore is less jungle due to having more gabber influence but drill and bass is literally just jungle with kitschy glitch effects and cringy string and piano samples

For me, it's disheartening to think that Drukqs may have been his last real effort, and that he seems completely content to rest on his laurels.

He mentioned this in a comment on katiacid, on his soundcloud. "all the tracks will be coming onto bleepstore sooo0o0o0on" or something to that affect It's since been removed, though.

It shouldn't come as a surprise, really - he discussed the possibility in huge depth when the whole dump was originally going on. That, and..

- The fact that a fully remastered p-string was recently released on that When I Was 14 compilation on Nina Kraviz's label

- The fact we have two fully remastered versions of Cheetah3 and Cheetah7 coming out on this EP

- The advent of Autechre testing out the bleepstore format with AE_LIVE and now elseq 1-5

- The fact that the aphextwin bleepstore URL isn't a straight up 404

To be perfectly honest, his last two major releases have been really low effort. I think Syro was the first indication of him kinda not bothering to leave his comfort zone and make something new.

Honestly making a comeback was a bad career move. He obviously quit in the early 2000s for a reason.

i didn;t hear them i just got here, but i will prob be into it when i hear it, i always am
i like his ostensibly simple stuff (it never is) cos it doesn't sound like anyone else, especially the tuning which is always really characteristic, and the smooth texture of the synths on his 2000s stuff is well special even on the really basic tracks

You know he still released music in the late 200s as The Tuss, right? Some of that is arguably his best material. Plus there were those bonus digital Analords released in 2009. His break is shorter than most people think.

>>65558550
You're right, man. I won't.

>>65558567
That's a good idea. I'm pretty sure I can get even more copies, because there are a bunch of record stores nearby me that always seem to never be able to sell hyped up limited stuff, that anywhere else would be gone in minutes.
>>
>>65558653
>bonus digital Analords released in 2009
what?
>>
>>65558408
all the new releases have been hella old material, anyway. especially syro

honestly i think when we actually get some tunes from 2012+ or whenever it was that be built the new scotland studio is when we'll get the REAL game-changing music

>>65558672
check discogs. each analord was released digitally on the rephlex site in 2009 with a bunch of bonus tracks
>>
holy shit guys I just realized what Analord means

did Richie take a break because he broke his ass?

BIG. The whole Soundcloud collection is absolutely worth it though. It's fascinating to see what he did at what point in time and what he had to say about it.

If some of the dates on the tracks are to be believed then Richy J was SO ahead of his time that it isn't even funny.

The Selected Ambient Works 1.5 playlist is great too.

there's no way anyone would go to the effort of touching up all 250+ tracks. not to mention how many of them are are tracks that are clearly unfinished demos/sketches/hardware examples/dj tools. and on top of those there's the tracks that just aren't good - he admitted as much in comments/descriptions.

if some of these do come out it will most likely be the most voted ones on http://user18081971.watmm.com/

Analogue + Lord

you 17yo don't deserve Richard. All you want is sped up amen breaks. Syro was amazing, more melodic and better composed than most electronic music, but because it isn't DnB it's worthless. In 10 years you'll resist it and maybe hear how much better he is than his peers.
>>
>>65562123
He should just put Ibiza Spliff on SAW III. He's definitely got enough material to make it by now.

>>
>>65566306
I've personally never been the biggest fan of him compared to the other artists in the 'big 4,' but he's definitely worth trying. go for his late 90s and early 2000s material though. his earlier stuff (Feed Me Weird Things, Hard Normal Daddy) is Plug/RDJ-style drill n bass, while his later stuff in the early 2000s (Ultravisitor, Music Is Rotted One Note) is breakcore with a fuckton of insane bass guitar jazz solos. I'll also say to check out Go Plastic, it's the closest thing to a 'normal' breakcore album he's done. it feels a lot like Venetian Snares and drops a lot of the jazz influences his other stuff has.
since then he's done a bunch of stuff that's fairly hit-or-miss, but some of it still seems worthwhile too. generally less breakcore and more dancey experimental stuff though.

/mu/ is all about trends honestly and artist's popularity goes up and down. at the moment most people on here seem to be on autechre's dicks (probably cause they're more avant-teen-y) while it's "cool" to hate aphex cause he's popular/a legend.
