ITT: Post musicians who seem like they're too depressed to function in the real world and are only able to express themselves through music, but inevitably ended up (or will end up) killing themselves directly or indirectly through drug use.
I'll start with some of my favourites - looking to expand my collection.

OP, this is triggering my depression and anxiety. All of these artists (other than Sufjan) are so tragic, it hurts.

It's almost hard to watch him play, he's just so sad :^(

Sorry anon, but I've always found it therapeutic listening to artists like this. Elliott Smith in particular helped me when I was going through a shitty time.

>implying Elliott Smith killed himself

He obviously did. Although I'm curious, what are the other theories about his death? I know people claim he was murdered, but I never bothered researching it.

More like this please, lovely tune.

Enjoyed this too, thanks.

Anything by Songs: Ohia or Magnolia Electric Co. In a lot of ways Jason Molina is like an Appalachian Elliott Smith.

his suicide was extremely improbable. i think people doubt it just because it's so violent and out of character for elliott. i can't think of a more painful and messy way to go out.
but i can't pull theories out of my ass when there's no evidence to support them.

Like this very much, I'll try to give it all a listen.

idk, it's possible to be completely non-violent to other people and still feel enough self-hatred to be violent to oneself. From his lyrics it seems like that was something he struggled with. It is an odd and potentially slow/painful way to commit suicide though, granted.

There was a thread I saw here like over a year ago that had his autopsy report in it. Reading through it made it seem like it could have been foul play. I just can't imagine stabbing yourself multiple times in the chest.

I have a .pdf of his LAPD autopsy report, in it even the coroner doubts that his death was consistent with suicide.
