If you're poor then you should be looking into cassettes and cds. CD players are everywhere and cds are available cheaply from libraries for rent, thrift stores, or used from ebay for dirt cheap ( <5$).
I have nevery seen a cassette player that works from a thrift store or ebay. Get a 30 dollar one from ebay and get cassettes from ebay and thrift stores
