Hey, /mu/. I need some help. Upright Bassist here. Been playing for about a year, and starting to get serious about it. I play in my school's Jazz Band and have done a few gigs, nothing huge. I need a better Bass. Right now I am renting one for like 80 bucks a month. It plays well, but i'm looking for something a bit better. Anyone know a good model for a semi-expericenced student like myself? Somewhere in the 800-2500$ range.

Look around at the different shops in your town, you can buy a much better bass used for the same money. Also get a quiver for your bow.
Is it bad that I just kept the one my school gave to me. They never asked for it back so...

I did the same for a few months.
Juilliard trained jazz bassist here m8! give me a sec and ill post some links to the two options that i think are best. i also have some experience working luthiers rumano solano and thomas andres wolfe.

if this one is too much then u can look at lower end shens but frankly there arent many good basses u can get for less the 2000 or 2500

if u plan on persuing music as a profession or just know that you will be playing for the rest of ur life then i suggest holding off until u can drop some more bread, my main bass was around 6000 and still serves me well.

You can always sell to upgrade though.
My advice is look second hand.
probably a shen is your best bet

bro
not OP but would you want to read/play something i wrote m8?

true, idk where you guys live but a dude named bob kurz who runs a place called bobs house of basses in maryland will give u 90% of what u paid for it if u bought it from him and want to get a different bass in his shop. but second hand can be a good call but basses dont tend to lose much value and you might screwed if ur an inexperienced buyer.

eh, ill give it a read and if it looks interesting then ill try playing it down a few times. taking a week off from serious playing cause i got foot surgery recently.

Yeah, OP here. If you could send it to me somehow I'd be more than happy to give it a shot. Want my email?
