First time posting here so if I post a memeword or phrase then I'm sorry

I really enjoy tracks and albums that tell a story, stuff like Dance With The Devil by Immortal Technique, Stan by Eminem, Eleanor Rigby, Hurricane, Hospice by The Antlers etc etc etc

What are some classic stories told through music, or even just good stories told in less popular shit i dont give a shit. I just wanna find music I haven't listened to before.

Assume I have listened to 0 music.

Rod Stewart - Living for the City
>A poor boy from Mississippi moves to New York to start a new life. He is tricked into transporting drugs and gets sentenced to ten years in prison.

Gene Pitney - 24 Hours from Tulsa
>While driving home to his wife after a long trip, a man falls in love with another woman while staying the night in a motel.

The Kinks - Lola
>At a bar one night, a man meets what he thinks is an attractive woman, only to discover that it's actually a transvestite.

Kate Bush - Babooshka
>A woman dons a disguise and seduces her untrustworthy husband. However, the adulterous man in the song may just be playing along with his wife's rouse to spice things up in the bedroom.

The Who - Pinball Wizard
>A deaf, dumb and blind boy becomes a pinball champion.

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight
>It's about a disabled man being cared for. See the line "Everyone turns to see / This beautiful lady who's walking around with me" - he's being pushed around in a wheelchair.

Kenny Rogers - Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town
>A disabled Vietnam veteran knows that his wife is cheating on him and fantasizes about killing her.

You could listen to albums by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

They don't really tell a story per se but they're very cinematic albums, you'll feel like going through a movie. And it's great music anyway

Thanks for the recommendations guys, gonna hit this with 1 last bump

Mastodon's best album. It starts off pretty "thrashy" but gets a lot more interesting after the first track. I do love the first track but it is not really representative of the rest of the album.

"It's about climbing up a mountain and the different things that can happen to you when you're stranded on a mountain, in the woods, and you're lost. You're starving, hallucinating, running into strange creatures. You're being hunted. It's about that whole struggle."

Overall it's a breakup album but she draws comparisons between historical events and milestones in the relationship to tell the story of the time they spent together. It's a long one but by far my favorite album and worth a listen or two to decide if you're into it or not. Very sad stuff.

Trying to think of more but this hangover is taking up most of my brain's resources

Charles Mingus - The Clown
More like narrative in between the jazz but it's a good album.

Hector Berlioz - Symphony fantastique
Classical symphonic work that tells the story of a guy who takes opium and dreams about a girl.

Maybe not your thing but what the hell.

To be completely honest OP, my favorite story told through music has to be The Dear Hunter's "Acts"

The majority of this band's discography tells the story of a man's life in the early 1900, its fucking fantastic and I envy anyone who gets the chance to discover it all as I would love to do it again

The story isn't over though, pic related is the most recent Act with Act 5 coming probably soon so I would recommend jumping on the hype train

Here's a good song from a point in the story
