I want to turn into a true electronic music patrician, what should i listen?

Now i like Justice and Kavinsky
>>
First of all learn that ''electronic music'' relates to the production method of a range of large genres;

Electroacousmatic
Musique concrete
Industrial
Hip hop
Techno
House
Breaks
Trance
Garage
Ambient
Downtempo
Synthpop
Dub

Pick one and start with that, read up on its history, origins and influences on Wikipedia and then use the many sites available on the internet to explore each metagenre.

That chart is horrible. No James Holden, Arca, or Dan Deacon. Many albums on there should be taken off.

A lot of the albums are just modern day copies of old techno music. You just need to look back further in history to find them. Other albums on there are just bad. Many musicians who are making actual contributions to modern electronic music aren't on the chart at all.

And many more different genres and subgenres I didn't mention because I don't have all day.
Just pick whatever sounds appealing to you.
You can also dig more synthwave producers, carpenter brut, dance of the dead, dynatron, dan terminus, perturbator, ogre, vhs glitch, they are fucking countless.
Godspeed.

First of all you have to learn that most electronic music is being released as singles\ep\VA compliations. LP albums are small part of all releases.
I can't reccomend you a thing because I don't know what genre you will like. It's useless to throw things at you that you won't listen because you won't like it, now matter how good they are and how many people recommend them.

you have completely unrelated styles of music that can be grouped together simply because they are made electronically and people are too stupid to separate them into their respective genres ie taylor swift vs stockhausen
the memes like army of mushrooms are thrown in there for comedic value at you tards taking this chart seriously

>>65430590

>>65430741
No, its a fact.

>Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production, an electronic musician being a musician who composes and/or performs such music. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology.[1]

>An electronic musical instrument is a musical instrument that produces sound using electronics. Such an instrument sounds by outputting an electrical audio signal that ultimately drives a loudspeaker.
>>
>>65430704
Well, imbecile, in that post you've meant that electronic music doesn't equal to EDM. Which, by using simple logical implications, which you lack, apparently, means, that EDM is not electronic, that's what you've meant with your post.
So either learn fucking operators or stop using them on IB.
PROTIP: It doesn't make you look edgy, it makes you look retarded.
>>
>>65430760
>Quotes wikipedia article that everyone in this thread already read
Oh, so now you can tell me all about what is "essential" to a genre based on someone's technical definition.
>>
>>65430772
No you fucking retarded cunt, EDM is just one small part of all electronic music, learn 2 read.
>>
>>65430704
Are you actually autistic or just trolling? There are things called connotation and context. When people casually refer to "electronic music" they aren't talking about Katy Perry or Xenakis, but Daft Punk or David Guetta

DAVID SYLVIAN IS A GENIUS
>>
>>65431198
nobody told me for years so I'll spare you the bs

House: 4/4 drum beat, generally 115-125 BPM, softer sounding drums, more soulful sounds involved, maybe more funky etc

Techno: House's dark sibling, also 4/4 but slightly faster at 120-135 bpm, much darker sound = so more FX, harder drums, rarely much soul (with an exception to some areas of detroit techno where all that really distinguishes it from house is speed/drum heaviness), also generally more repetitive and focused on build ups/release of tension

That said there are tunes which are self defined as one but could just as easily be the other (and of course tech-house is big in europe)

The reason the differences seem quite subtle but that they are distinct is just the way that they emerged at around the same time but in completely different scenes/cities (i.e detroit and chicago) and then similarly took off in different places (e.g techno is ofc very big in Berlin) so they are both coloured differently by the places where they are popular and the people that produce them.
>>
>>65431198
don't listen to the other guy. there are exceptions to every rule he mentioned. to tell whether something is house or techno you have to trace its influences.
>>
