I'm not saying you can't post music but when you post an unremarkable bandcamp release everywhere and it happens to be in the native language of the artist it draws suspicions, plus the fact that it happens to be everywhere where it's convenient.

It's a combination of often not knowing shit about dance-related/oriented music and new music being underrated.

My own personal theory is to take an RYM score and raise it by .20 to get an accurate reflection of the album and how it would be viewed if it were made in the past.

tim hecker is literally one of the best ambient/drone composers out there. hopkins makes urban outfitters-core memetronica
>>
>>65368188
>tim hecker is literally one of the best ambient/drone composers out there.
He has no sense of melody. All Hecker does is overlay texture on top of texture in haphazard form. There's no talent to what he does and it appeals to the shallow listener, the person who listens to music in the background and does not care about the compositions on the record.
>>
>>65368225
>he has no sense of melody
>it appeals to the shallow listener
lmao. you do know these are mutually exclusive right?
drone isn't exactly a melodic genre. he thrives in sound design and manages to make emotional tracks out of pure texture/harmony
>>
>>65368225
>the person who listens to music in the background and does not care about the compositions on the record.

This is sort of a null criticism because ambient music can and often is used specifically as a form of background music. Therefore his ability or lack of (in your opinion) to create well-made compositions is kind of besides the point, as I think Tim Hecker is more interested in creating detailed and sprawling textures as opposed to tight, well-written compositions.

As for it taking no talent, I've listened to ambient music and there's definitely noticeable differences between the skilled artists and the poor ones.
>>
RYM gets it wrong anytime an artist releases a slightly weak album after releasing a great album. Most should be in the low to mid 3.0s, but end up in the mid to high 2.0s
>>
>>65366324
lol
>>
>>65368312
>>65368396
If Ambient compositions aren't supposed to have good melodies you need to talk to Eno, Aphex, and Mark Pritchard.

Moonsorrow is great you fucking nu-male hipster faggot
>>
>>65368523
>you need to talk to the three ambient artists I've ever listened to
>>
>>65368552
I've listened to plenty of Ambient, but those three in particular have incredibly memorable melodies in their music. So I actually like them, whereas the rest of the genre is just bland as fuck.
>>

>>
>>65368573
if you're citing mark pritchard as some sort of immediate touchstone on the level of Aphex and Eno, you likely haven't listened to much of the genre at all and just picked him up cause his new album is FOTW. I'd be shocked if you'd been seriously listening to music for more than six months to a year tops
>>
>all these butthurt bleeptards ITT
If majority of your music wasn't so shit it wouldn't be rated so low
>>
>>65368523
Why are you so hung up on melodies? Anyway, how many Hecker albums have you listened to? He has his fair share of memorable melodies
>>
>>65368626
>you likely haven't listened to much of the genre at all and just picked him up cause his new album is FOTW.
He's just a recent album I listened to and liked, of course he's not literally on par.
>I'd be shocked if you'd been seriously listening to music for more than six months to a year tops

I've literally listened to hundreds of ambient/drone releases, Tim Hecker is pretty far from mediocre. Listen to more music, kiddo.
>>
>>65368803
So you've listened to a lot of talentless hacks.
I'm sorry but I don't see the value in just pure texture unless you're Gyorgy Ligeti or John Luther Adams.

>strawmen
>>
>>65368857
If you weren't a nu-male poser hipster you would understand why people like them
>>
>>65368523
I never said they were not EVER supposed to have good melodies, I was trying to communicate that ambient music can be just that: ambient, droning, focused on textures rather than melodies to create a specific mood or feeling (hence the term AMBIENCE) without being hand-waved away as "poor compositions, only shallow listeners would appreciate Tim Hecker!" It's just fundamentally missing the point, because there are more approaches to music (ESPECIALLY ambient music) than melodies and traditional songwriting ideas.

Also I think this has a very nice, languid melody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VBU4vqk8jA

Okay, but that's not because Tim Hecker is a talentless hack, it's because YOU don't see the value in pure textures unless it's by those two artists specifically as you just admitted.
>>
>>65369096
