unlistenable trash
Jim Hall
Rudolf Sosna
Jerry Garcia
George Harrison (note: I'm taking their compositional ability as guitarists into account as well as technical skill)
Kevin Shields (note: see above)
Robert Johnson
Django Reinhardt
Frank Zappa
Mikael Ã…kerfeldt
Peter Lindgren
Steve Howe

I'd deffinitely agree with Fripp cause he's legit the best guitarist of all time but it'd be close on a lot of those other guys. Hendrix was a pretty damn inventive and emotive soloist, if a tad overrated.

Hendrix was a better songwriter and far more influential than any of them.
Is this another Richard Lloyd being ignored in a guitarist thread episode?
>>65355050
Johnny Marr

agree desu
>Peter Green
>Mick Taylor
>Duane Allman
>Jimmy Page
>Mark Knopfler
>Robert Fripp
>Eddie Van Halen
>Johnny Marr
In my opinion:
Robert Fripp
John Mclaughlin
Steve Howe
Django Reinhardt
There's too much to consider I think... technical ability, how prolific they are, etc.
For me it's more about what they play and how they make it actual art and not just sound. I would have to say Jeff Beck.

Hendrix wasn't much of a songwriter. He mostly just wrote blues which were relatively easy to solo over albeit a lot of his vocal parts were nicely written. He was a lot more impressive as a performer though. The stuff he'd alter on the fly about his vocals and his virtuosic but untrained ability as an improviser are what made him really special.
Also: historical significance/influence of an artist is irrelevant in a discussion about favourites. Unless you're talking about the influence he had on you personally.
No love for Guthrie Govan??
So we can all at least agree that Robert Fripp is the greatest guitarist ever, right?
