That's sad, I don't know much about cancer but isn't inoperable stage 4 pretty grim?
>>
Shit, I would donate if PayPal was an option.
I hope they can make it through this.
>>
That's pretty goddamn horrible to hear :(
>>
i just saw this god damn this is so tragic, two of my favorite people in such a shitty situation. i'm going to chip in. is this the first time they've talked about their child i hadn't heard.
>>
bump, ppl need to see this
>>65348771
it is pretty grim, thats why Phil needs our support more than ever, even if its a death sentence
>>
Shit that's terrible. Realistically they should have just let the cancer take her though. It'll get her soon enough regardless, it'd be better to not be homeless after it happens when you have a child that young.
>>
>>65348771
yeah, i don't mean to sound crass but she probably doesn't have much time left. my uncle had pancreatic cancer and it was tough to watch, but at least it was relatively quick.

he doesn't have time to make music. he's busy taking care of a wife with an awful diagnosis and who's future looks grim and also a very young baby.
>>
>>65349179
Albums take time to make, he clearly said he hasn't written any new music in a while, and you're not going to make any significant money through a fundraiser album, that's more for "buying new gear" levels of money not "crippling medical bills" money
>>
>>65349179

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make music for a long time actually. The loss of his wife could devastate him to the point of not even wanting to listen to music, much less write or play it.

He would probably spend the majority of his free time raising their daughter if that happens.

It's a pretty suicide tier situation. Yet another reason why I'm too afraid to have children myself. There's too much stress behind it.

The idea that Phil Elverum, a guy who's music I've see posted on this website every single day for 3 years doesn't have a big enough following to pay for his and his wife's albums so that they can survive something like this depresses me. I feel bad for torrenting his music, though I have bought a considerable amount of it over the years.

Mount Eerie, the album
Mount Eerie pts 6 & 7
Live in Copenhagen is a good collection of songs he wrote in a weird part of his life but didn't record until later.
I think his best Mount Eerie albums are Clear Moon and Ocean Roar.
Sauna is good. It was hot we stayed in the water, Wind's Poem. It's all good.

Phil is actually a ridiculously huge influence on my day-to-day life, however embarrassing and weird that sounds.
Despite working a super low-paying retail job, I'm still gonna donate to this family. Phil seems so down to earth, 100% so. The reason this really hits me, a fan, is because Phil is so genuine. He creates incredible music for all the right reasons, has never "sold-out" (even when selling ad-space to a goddamn blimp-concert), while Katy Perry rolls around farting the blandest vanilla and reaping the benefits of luxury. How is that possible?
I've never met Phil, I don't know him and he'll never know me, but this really hits hard.

Just read his website.

It's so strange seeing Phil this open to his audience. Especially about things that are so personal and intimate. Not an ounce of the usual poetic crypticism you get from Phil.

You can tell they are absolutely desperate. This is truely heart breaking.
>>
>>65348818
this is heart shattering.
>>
Sorry for bad English, it isn't my first language.

Ugh, goddamn this is sad. Honestly, I've never liked Phil's music except Clear Moon. I lost my mom to cancer last week (she was 54). It's a terrible disease and it completely ravages the human body, leaving only behind the shell of the person you knew and loved. I can't imagine what he's going through with a baby that young, too. I wish them well and hope Phil and the baby will be able to carry on when she's gone.

Donated $100. I know it won't make a difference in her prognosis, but I'm just doing this to make sure that family has something - anything - to maybe smile about if just for a few seconds.

Then don't fucking donate?
You could also share with friends, social media and the likes.
I can't donate right this very minute (but will as soon as I get paid ((tomorrow))) so I just shared his gofundme on fb and stuff.

Stupid question, but why doesn't he have a lot of money? I don't mean that he's rich, but isn't this band considered fantastic with a few classic records? Surely he has some money.

if you want to buy records, buy Genevieves work. I'm sure she would appreciate it.

There are others who can't afford it, probably some for similar reasons who don't have a gofundme set up, don't make them feel bad because they can't.

Fleuve is actually one of my top tens, honestly
Perfect soundtrack to last winter, when I went through my own family stuff and stopped being a little teenager, and moved into a cold but amazing city.
Not to sound like an actual shill, but which of her other albums (or even her comic stuff) should I look into?

>Why has nothing been changed over so many years of complaints for the health care system? I'm 22 and I've been hearing about how bad it is since I was a young kid.

All politics aside for a moment, a big reason is because the medical industry greatly enjoys the money they rake in with the current system. >>65351132 is basically true, but the sad fact of the matter is that, at the end of the day, for providing the means to high-quality healthcare, some people are more concerned with making bank than saving the lives of people they never met before and never will.
>>
>>65351119
it's a salient point when an upper-middle class family like phil's can go broke trying to help a dying family member.
>>
>>65351186
Yes. I've heard that your health care is fantastic. But the mentality behind it is so fucked though. Basically "if you can't pay for it you'll die and we won't even stop it from happening".

This is some really bad fucking news. My grandfather died of pancreatic cancer, it's one of the worst kinds of cancer you can get. If she's already at stage 4 inoperable then she is going to die, there is no beating this. The best thing they can do is help her feel comfortable in her final days.

The worst part is, they're the ones who basically hold all the cards. You want to change the system, ultimately bringing in less money? Fine, just be prepared for a massive drop-off in production. They're not going to provide as much for less in return.

Phil has been nothing but cool to almost every rando that's ever e-mailed, texted, or sent him letters. I feel no need to wince when I donate $30 to this.

If you wanna get a feel for him as a human being past the art and the twitter, I'd heavily recommend listening to this podcast he did not too long ago.

the industry doesn't see us as people with actual feelings and emotions and problems and families, they just see dollar signs. my mother has a chronic autoimmune disease and basically all her "doctor's appointments" are just big pharma peddling the trendiest and newest meds on the market - trying to get her to pay loads of cash for them. they don't actually give a shit about her well-being.

Because it's like 10% of our economy now. Literally millions of jobs directly or indirectly exist due to the current state. For profit Insurance companies which are publically traded, invested in by things like pension funds. Big pharma. All the medical machine manifacturers. Medical supply companies.

There are too many people making too much money from the current situation. No politician wants do do anything that would kill any jobs. No politician wants to raise taxes. It basically comes down to money vs morality/compassion. In the United States, money wins that battle every time.

Even if a dictator came into power tomorrow, he couldn't flip a switch and socialize heathcare in the us. It's got tentacles knotted up everywhere and would take a decade to transition. Even in the best case scenario. if states keep fighting obamacare (the first step towards universal health care) and republican presidents work to repeal it, I have no faith that we'll ever get there.

Government employees get great insurance tho. So maybe we can all just work for the government.

Being a sociopath and showing nothing but malice to everyone makes you come off as such an obviously underage and wounded individual.
