Looking for some good 70s Metal. Stuff along the lines of early Sabbath and 70s Judas Priest like Sad Wings of Destiny or Sin After Sin.
All recommendations are appreciated but I'm really looking for stuff that was uncharacteristically "heavy" for its time and kind of ahead of the curve.
I don't know if it qualifies, but Machine Head by Deep Purple is the quintessential 70's hard rock/heavy metal album imo
Great band, everyone in it is a god at their role, especially Blackmore

Pagan Altar.
They only did one album in the 70's, their self-titled debut, but everything else they did is just as good if not better than.
The vocalist just died last year, they have one more album that's been in post-production for eternity.
Thank God Bob Ezrin turned this song from a poppy-disco track to this beast.

Absolute classic and yes it definitely fits the criteria I'm looking for. Of course it's such a classic I've heard it many times before.

This is great! Exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. Although it looks like it was released in 1981.

UFO - Strangers in the Night
Best live rock album I've ever heard.
Unleashed in the East is Priest's best album too.
Rarely considered metal, but for the sake of this thread, I would highly encourage you to listen to the divine act of Dublin, Ireland, the truest steel sound you will ever hear out of your speakers, the finest lads and chaps of all...

>along the lines of early Sabbath
Check out Flower Travellin Band, they're one of the oldest metal bands along with Sabbath, but they're pretty underrated.
