Boredoms - Vision Creation Newsun (1999)
>experimental rock, psychedelic rock, neo-psychedelia

I'd definitely say it loses a lot of steam by the end, but I suppose that's just the comedown after the percussive insanity of the first couple tracks. The quality divide is massive though, it starts of as a batshit, schizo mixture of psych, noise rock, krautrock all anchored my insane drum circles, and then it just kinda turns into a boring but pleasant sunny ambient rock record. Not bad by any means, but certainly a let down after the figurative orgasm of the first half. But man, that first half.

From best to worst

>Ground-Zero - Plays Standards
I could gush about this thing for hours, but I'll just say that anything that can be called Avant-Prog, Turntablism/plunderphonics, noise rock, avant-garde jazz, etc has to be interesting. Just as good if not better than Ver. 1.28.

>Can - The Peel Sessions
I enjoy some of late-70s Can work, but felt it was missing a lot. This is where a lot of those jams are fully realized into thought out songs, at least until the last two tracks, which are just okay.

>Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring
The best of their non-post rock era. Moved away from the new wave and brought more complex melodies in, but for some reason I just didn't love it as much as I thought I should.

>Unexpect - In a Flesh Aquarium
Chaotic avant prog metal that is usually more quirky than technical, but not always.

>Talk Talk - It's My Life
I actually really enjoyed the New Wave-y feel, but it feels slightly less realized than their next album.

>Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet
The kraut influence is again really apparent, but I felt like every other song had the same formula with a synth playing a few chords in the background, and horns or something coming in half way through the track. Fun but predictable.

>Slowdive - Souvlaki
A lot of really beautiful parts, but I can't seem to like these guys like other shoegaze acts. They can craft some good melodies, but only on about half of their tracks on this album.

>The The - Soul Mining
Some great melodies on here, but nothing of much substance. I enjoyed the post-punk sounding parts, but by halfway through most of these songs I felt like the track was done doing anything interesting. Very very okay.

>Slowdive - Pygmalion
While their previous album had at least half of the tracks I enjoyed, this one had maybe three. Definitely lost my interest after song two, other than maybe track eight.

>Tigers Jaw - s/t
It blurs the line between emo and pop punk in the worst way possible.

>Jandek - The Ruins Of Adventure

Jandek just crops his face from the previous album cover. “Hahaha”.

After the flanger guitar, Smith returns to his fretless bass. There is a sense of grace in his playing on this album, unlike the previous efforts. His note plucking doesn’t feel all that abrupt, although it is still a Jandek record. If you expect the rashness to disappear then you’re wrong.

The tracks are long. The opening “The Park” is a 10 minute story about the eternally suffering Jandek-ian protagonist creating a park for himself and his loved one to escape from all the hassle of this world. Vocals are half-dying as usual. Bass tends to get extremely slow during Jandek’s talks. I was thinking of the song’s main theme the day before I listened to this album. Smith manages to freak me out once again.

Bluff Brink slows it down even more! The bass becomes very quiet too compared to his vocals. The track is still a bit hard for me to comprehend, but Smith mixes storytelling about being closed out from the society, having trust issues and not giving a damn. The way he delivers the final “I can’t possibly care about it all” sounds a bit ridiculous.
“Completely Yours” reminds me of a track from The Door Behind in terms of content. On “It’s Only You”, Sterling already spoke about this obsessive character who sacrifices everything for the person he adores. There might be a slightly less masochistic approach to this track in particular, but it still feels like the protagonist is doing a wrong thing. The bass keeps wobbling through.

“Mysteries of Existence” is the shortest track on here. Very slow. This track is probably the most metaphysical from Jandek, going into numerous states of self-exploration. A lot of it sounds like jibberish. Can’t really go into too much details here, except for the fact that the bass sounds pretty good on this!

>>65292828
The closing title track is 14 minutes long. This one probably features the best lyrics about the usual lost and annoyed, depression-filled man vs. the world. “To live and die, it’s too bleak / No mystery, solid fact / The ruins of adventure” is a great lyric. A breakdown because the thing that enamoured him turns out to be so simple. Realizing that living is a better choice, the protagonist gets even angrier at death and at his life as well. Interesting track. Some of the bass playing on here gets really aggressive but it still keeps closer to a smoother progression.

I think the musical formula has been wearing out for some time already. It is nice to see a slightly softer approach to the bass guitar (which I appreciate) and the lyrics tend to get really good, but he really needs a fresh reboot of his career. Let’s see when that happens.

tourney match a done!

>charles mingus - the black saint and the sinner lady
holy FUCK this thing was goddamn amazing. at times perfectly slinky and sexy and at others menacing and disgusting. sounds busy, huge, and crowded, but in the best way possible. shit sounds like my home metropolitan area of manila at night feels. some rush hour, red light district stuff right here. as i'm typing this i'm giving it a second listen and jesus it sounds so good to my ears i can't even think of words right now. beautiful.

>negativland - dead dog records
in terms of actual sound, i can't say i didn't like this record. the use of sound collage was interesting and managed to keep my attention. however, the fact that the whole thing kept beating on the subject of copyright law and fair use without end put me off of it a bit. it came off as preachy in a way that distanced me, and that's bad considering i don't disagree with the message being put across. it still sounded good and pulled off a few funny and interesting moments, but i didn't particularly like listening to it.

mark and wins the first match! send me your rec, bruv. thanks to comet for participating!

die antwoord- suck on this mixtape
I wish, so fucking bad, that Ninja wasn't so comfortable with being lazy about his art these days. he's got the success he's been chasing for 20 years, so now he's just having fun. this is, sadly, what you think might follow 2014's biggest letdown, donker mag. on this mix, they go further into the rave style, get some trap in there, and throw in some superfluous remixes.
really poor skits.
a few glints of hope here and there.

I got this at the record store the other day- givingbear owed me a Sondre Lerche record since I won one of his giving threads. Thanks again, boi!
Here's a review:

Sondre Lerche- Public Hi-Fi Sessions 01
Indie pop

Recorded in 2013 by Jim Eno at the public hi-fi studio in Austin, Texas, this 12" single on 180 gram black vinyl is compromised of two songs, which were written with some years between them. They encapsulate very different parts of Sondre's recording career, but they work very well together. I also really adore the cover art, it's a very nice print.
The first song, Rejection #5, is quirky as all get out. Peculiar effects are masterfully laid on an odd guitar melody, and it seems very lighthearted, almost silly, but not to any detriment. So the song is very engaging, and because of it's demeanor, it is a good party tune, pretty danceable. One of Sondre's best in that regard. This whimsical aspect is both confirmed and contrasted by the lyrics. In usual Lerche form, they're cryptic and off-kilter. Complimenting the strange fun of the music, he sings in the chorus:
"You looked just like Lazenby, talked just like Bruce Lee,
But under the canopy you were just like me"
Lazenby being, of course, George Lazenby, the eccentric, womanizing, one time James Bond actor (often considered the worst Bond). This isn't the first time Lerche makes extended reference to the actor (his tune "Like Lazenby" from 2009's Heartbeat Radio). It makes me want to see the Bond film he stars in.
The lyrics also get dreadfully serious in bits- it seems to me like all the best pop music does this. As you're still adjusting to the curious music, he sings in the first verse:
"Compromises make you ill
Now everything worth dreaming of
Keeps you awake at night".
Perhaps not immediately apparent, but after a bit of contemplation, it's really an exemplary Sondre Lerche song.

[2/2]

The B side song is called Screen Door. Musically, it's simpler, but happily not without Sondre's always remarkable chord selections. It would also be a nice party tune, it illicits swaying and head nodding with ease. Screen Door also has some peculiar lyrics, but also has some pretty simple, accessible lyrics. It's very easy to want to sing along to the chorus:
"Alright with me
It's always alright with me"
But once more, Lerche reminds you how serious he can be in the first verse:
"Somebody's screaming, the next thing I know
I was doing CPR while on the phone"
Another song that really represents what Sondre is all about.
That is,
Large emotion in a playful and, at times, somewhat disorienting setting. A sonic landscape whose topography is built to match the triumph and terror of Feelings. But it's usually a sunny day there, so let's go out, have fun, and maybe get our hearts broken sometimes.

Before I forget.. I just had a dream Melissa McCarthy went undercover to investigate a nudist colony, but it was first person so I didn't know it was her although she was narrating everything. Some nudists were climbing up a huge hollow hand probably 500 ft tall while others jeered as they tried to commune with God through the struggle of the climb- never reaching the top. Then Melissa revealed her identity at the end and said she was going to criticize autechre on /mu/. Then a lady in charge, I suppose, of the colony made sure I (Melissa?) didn't think it was a cult.

Can someone analyze my dream?

WHOA orz, I never expected to hear this but I'm so glad you asked!

Christianity is founded on the idea of a personal God desiring a relationship with man. However because God is holy and can't tolerate the presence of sin, it's impossible for this to happen since every person is a sinner and deserving of his righteous punishment.

To solve this problem, God in his everlasting love decided to come to earth in the form of a man and sacrifice himself for everyone's sins once and for all. By rising from the dead, he proved that whoever believed on him would also be resurrected when judgement came.

So basically it boils down to two things:
Recognizing you're a sinner in need of a savior and accepting the free gift of salvation that Jesus offered simply through faith. Simple as that.

We should talk more about this over Skype or email. I don't have too many Christian friends so this is pretty sweet dude.

lel oh right. Well they're a Christian music review website and I'm a staff member but unfortunately nobody there besides me makes music. Thankfully they actually liked The Dragon on the Shore Beside the Sea, so I think we're getting somewhere.

i used to have a very good christian friend with whom i enjoyed sparring regularly so i think i at least have a grasp of the basics maybe, but my question is perhaps more specialized...
my email is [email protected]
i will be absent for a couple hours now but i am able to go into more depth and follow through on exchanges there.

take care, dear

Might give this a look after this chart, feel like I missed a lot of 2015's releases. And nothing much, just a bit of illness I've not been able to shake and being unable to decide if I want to stick to studying engineering or pursue something in music. How are things with you?
