Obnoxious but funny, a master of melody, loved his last album a lot and the most recent few before that. The most lo-fi stuff is hard to parse but there are some good early songs as well.

Doldrums is porbably one of my top ten albums of life.
I thought Before Today was disappointing. Fortunately, he recovered his essence in the next two albums. imho, BT is his only bad album.

The press for pom pom touted it as his wackiest yet, but desu I thought there was weirder stuff on Mature Themes (Nostradamus and Me, Schnitzel Boogie, etc.). I still really like that record, and I'd say I prefer it to pom pom a bit.

yea definitely. it was considered as a tamer release back then but compared to pom pom its pretty wild. i have no idea why people think pom pom is so strange. good album but definitely one of his most accessible yet
